Well the Arkham City ending showed that explicitly, it felt like Batman was surprised and kinda devastated by Joker's death, also he definitely remained silent (after telling Joker the thing which literally made him laugh to death).

While Kevin had set the standard he would have been proud to see the batmen to come.
