I feel bad for Killer Croc. Bullied as a child for being different, outcast by society... Resentment is the only thing he has. People labeled him as a monster from the get go, so from his perspective, he may as well be that.
That's what I love about the Batman Universe is that all the villains we're pretty much outcasts from society or mistreated by Society. Batman could have easily end up like the villains but unlike all of them Batman had Alfred. If they had somebody to actually take care of them and been there for them then that probably wouldn't have happen.

Some are just mentally unable or unwilling to work with society. The Riddler, Firefly, Mr. Freeze, Victor Zsasz and Poison Ivy are great examples of that. Some are just plain nasty pieces of work. Joker, Harley Quinn and Ra's Al Ghul are that group.

Harley Quinn is very manipulative and abusive child with knowledge of smart adult. Very dangerous combination to bystanders and Joker just gave her a excuse to go crazy. Poison Ivy is mass murderer with absolutely zero empathy towards humans and especially big hatred towards men. She does not need to use those mind-affecting toxins of her, but she does just out of spite. Ra's Al Ghul follows completely alien set of morals and in a sense cannot be judged by character. He can be judged by actions and that makes him a brutal terrorist. They may have their excuses of choosing their path, but every crook chose to follow it. Maybe out of grudge or insanity. Killer Croc was born with deformities and they just got worse. Firefly always was a pyromaniac, but it eventually got too strong. Victor Zsasz is borderline-retarded.

Really interesting how Amanda Young brought up how she thinks fear is what made the joker, especially since that in the ending of Arkham Knight it’s revealed the only fear the joker actually has is the fear of being forgotten, driving him to do terrible things in order to be remembered.
I still don't get why they thought it was a good idea to have an intern's first interview be with the Joker of all people. Why not have her first be with someone slighly less insane like the Riddler?
@@Everik-ct6pg The Joker is a psychopath or sociopath and a sadist, the Riddler (well always depending of the version and who is writing him, obviously) mostly has only a severe case of OCD, along with a pathological need for attention and some superiority complex. Even with all of that he still being a sane enough guy when the story allows him, he has even reformed some times and became a detective.

I really like how Cash went from being really afraid of Killer Croc, treating him bad because of it, to gaining more experience overcoming his fear of Croc and being a much better cop.

One of my favourite Joker stories is Lovers and Madmen in which it looks at a darker take on the Joker's origin. In it he is described as evil gone insane. And in the comic under the red hood Jason Todd deduces the Joker isn't as insane as he lets on as it's more of a handy justification for all the evil stuff he does (he says this to the Joker's face and it actually not only shuts him up but makes him stop smiling) So yeah there is something to be said how the Joker is more evil than crazy.
It wasn’t even an interview, though. More like the scene in the horror movie where the person the killer has his sights on is home and the soon-to-be victims friends warn them just before the power goes out and the killer is already in the house.
Watching these back to back from Batman: Arkham City to Asylum, this feels more like kids trying to play doctor compared to Hugo Strange's psychological examinations.
Especially since in Arkham City Joker was the only one who stood his ground during a conversation with Strange,the other villains were no match for him.
She was an amateur. It was her first interview in Arkham, maybe ever, and she was interviewing the JOKER (seriously? JOKER?! Honestly, Zsasz would have probably been safer for her mental well-being, and he's a nihilistic psychopath whose only driving forces are self harm and murder!). She was totally out of her depth, and Joker took advantage of that.

The scariest part about this is that there's some thruth in each one of the bad guys philosofies Joker is right about society being cruel and absurd Killer croc is right about he never having a chance at a normal live with his appearence Harley quinn is right about how we tent to glorify the worst kinds of criminals The riddler is right about most people being stupid Poison Ivy is right about humans treating themselves as inheretly more valuable than any other form of life Zsasz is right about most regular people being like zombies just continuing the same routine without any real goal or porpuse but consuming everything in its way The scarecrow is right about fear being the reason why we do most things, even batman kinda proves his point when you consider the fact that his greatest weapon against crime is the fear he inspires on criminals
Riddlers point is mute considering most people are not stupid, just average, and Zsasz view of most humans is a simple minded mindset that is merely there to justify his killings. Many people are not “zombies” that act with no intended purpose, that’s merely a sweeping generalization that holds little weight. The rest are agreeable enough.
Real men use stick shift Zsasz was the opposite of that, it just made me believe he is a sick and pretentious idiot. The rest of them are agreeable enough, although it doesn’t justify there actions as criminals.
I love these tapes. It's a great way at actually establishing Arkham Asylum as a real mental hospital/prison that tries to understand it's many villainous patients. It says a lot about how sadistic and psychotic the villains are when most of these tapes usually end with the patient disturbing the doctors.

Another interesting perspective of Batman is that he's a government funded agent that has been sent to Gotham. This was part of Militia dialogue in Arkham Knight, where a soldier was telling his friend that he saw a video on the internet where Batman is funded by the government and came to America to rid crime in Gotham.
I find it kind of tragic yet funny how even the the doctors admit they are unsettled by their patients. That's how insane they are, even these trained psychologists are pushed to their limit.

The Harley interview was done much better in the animated series. This seems like she was reading from her script and the director said "close enough".
Yeah, something about those Harley lines were delivered almost purposefully flat. Had me wondering, since I hadn't played the game, if maybe the tapes left there weren't actually from Arkham but recorded later as decoys.
This being the first game in the series I guess their budget was limited. I found it hilarious Killer Crocs VA putting in 300% while the doctor is like "get.. him.. out of.. here..".
I find it interesting how Scarecrow does his own tapes since Johnathan Crane is an actual doctor in the DC universe. Even in Arkham Origins, if you check out a page of check in and out times for doctors, you'll see Crane was the last one who checked in, but he never checked out. It's also really cool how in the last tape, we get a scene where Batman shows up to stop him.

Kinda late to the party, but my favorite part about the Arkham series is how fucking twisted the villains are in those games. Usually in the comics they don't go that far, so it's always nice to be afraid of the Killer Croc again.

After listening to these audio tapes for years from this game, it’s made me realize that it provides the perfect spring board for the perfect Batman screenplay. Just take this and turn it into a script! Any one of these interviews could be turned into a 2 hour film.
Funnily enough, I don’t think she was. Her tapes use a lootttttttt of the dialogue from the episode “Mad Love” of Batman The Animated Series, and her demeanour makes me think that she has a similar origin. In that origin, it’s revealed she only got her PhD by giving sexual favours to all her teachers in college, and her intention was to become rich and famous by analysing “crazy” people like the criminals at Arkham, and obviously one of the prime candidates for that would be the Joker. So in a cruel sense of irony, she was the one who got manipulated, when really that was her intention.
Either Harley just sucks at her job as psychiatrist or she just out of her head. She thinks that Joker is "In Love" with her while in fact, Joker is obsessed with 2 things on his life: himself and Batman. If you play Arkham Origins, he made the story of the whole bad day thing when got interviewed by Harleen (Before she turned Harley Quinn) and he's very fascinating with Batman who wouldn't kill him when he has a chance. But, Harley thought he talked about her. Joker noticed that and he manipulated her psychologically and using her as his assistant. He's even admitting to Batman that beating Harley is his hobby.
I've always wondered, from what I know about the comics (which isn't much mind you) Joker has always been resistant to attempts at treatment and psychiatric evaluations. He always drives the interviewers insane or freaks them out or something along those lines. So I wonder how well Joker would fare in an extremely harsh imprisonment like a totalitarian prison or a concentration camp.

These are some of the best in game collectibles ever. The fantastic writing and connections to the plot + world building and being some of the FIRST that keep going when you exit the menu to say the least.
This is how I imagine their interviews: -Two-Face will make the doctor uncomfortable with his half burnt body and he will flip the coin to decide whether he should kill the doctor or not -Catwoman will screw the doctors and not take it seriously -Mr Freeze is a tragic character, he's not entirely evil but he can freeze the doctor if he wants to -Penguin will bribe the doctor because come on, he's rich -Ventriloquist and Scarface well, Scarface will screw the doctor very much -Bane will go berserk to the doctor when the doctor cross the line
The scariest thing about Victor Zsasz is how realistic someone like him could exist. He isn't some psycho mastermind, or a super villian with a power gimmick like the Joker, Riddler or Mr. Freeze. Similarly to say Michael Myers, he's just a pure evil monster, who regards no life and only sees people as his victims.
How did I never notice Killer Crocs reference to the Croc from Peter Pan? He ate Cash’s hand and left him with a hook Just like the Croc ate Hooks hand giving him his name. The Kill Croc says “tick tock ” which is a reference to the Croc from Peter Pan eating Hooks clock that was in the hand he ate and the ticking is when we know the Croc is around. Such a cool little reference.
In the Road to Arkham comic book their encounter is shown. Zsasz kidnapped her and took her to abandoned hospital. Because she has picked his brains he intended to literally pick hers. She was saved by Batman. She appears in Arkham Asylum. She is the doctor with the red hair.
Killer croc is probably the saddest character he was considered a freak because of a illness Its like being born with feathers and then being bullied through your whole school life and the only work available is being a freak show for people to laugh at

If you go and poke a real crocodile enough and it took your hand, you're just called a dumbass for having pissed off a crocodile. Cash being the genius that he is pissed off a massive humanoid crocodile capable of not only being pissed off but understanding being bullied and mistreated. A common thing with many "rehabilitation" facilities they have more fun just treating you like nothing and outcast you than actually treating you.
Batman gloating over scarecrow in the end was awesome to me. That part of his personality that takes pleasure in his work, and probably revealing why Crane is obsessed with him.
I absolutely love games that have these extra pieces for fun. One thing I think is interesting is that I find these clips more memorable than the ones from say the BioShock series, with a some exceptions. I think it’s because with these clips, you can actually stop and listen to them, while with Bioshock, you’re playing the game while they’re playing, so there’s less of a chance that you’re actively paying attention to what’s being said. Also, the characters in the Arkham series have more distinctive voices than those from Bioshock. Just a random thought.
always wonder why the docs never once try Joker with anti-psychotic drugs and sedatives - no matter how severe his madness is those should kill off his Joker persona or at least make it controllable.. unless there's some people who are magically immune to anti-psychotics and sedatives (which I've never heard of happening)?

Reading the comments on this video, some people believe Joker might not even be truly insane... he is a criminal mastermind after all, and his insanity allows him both to escape judgement for his crimes and literally escape from the most tragically insecure maximum security psychiatric prison in the world.
i don't think he's psychotic. he never claims or seems to have hallucinations or delusions actively, he has a personality disorder which is much more deeply-engrained in one's psyche than psychosis, and needs tons of therapy to get through.
Victor Zsasz is one of the few characters that relate with the modern world and are very underrated within DC comics. He’s only represented as a cold-blooded killer using phones as his trail but his ideology is much more interesting and that’s what Dr. Gretchen attempted to dig into. When she said Victor ‘needed’ to kill, it’s pretty disturbing because he’s actually in-pain so he has to subtle his pain by murdering others.
The guy that wrote that episode (and many many more episodes) was also a writer for this game, he intentionally made the interview tapes that way, great easter egg.

Even the way he kills is meticulous, almost like Jigsaw only without him justifying the killing by saying they kill themselves. Riddler is more amused by the fact people fail so he can stand back and admire that it was his intelligence that killed someone.

While again I think intelligence is more of having THE answer. A dumb person would come up with an educated guess as to how many of something is in a jar. Riddler already knew the answer. I think intelligence is not really being clever but how it is you find THE answer to something. Most don't consider cheating honorable but it IS intelligent if it means you now have the answer.

Ra's Al Ghul follows completely alien set of morals and in a sense cannot be judged by character. He can be judged by actions and that makes him a brutal terrorist.

Really interesting how Amanda Young brought up how she thinks fear is what made the joker, especially since that in the ending of Arkham Knight it’s revealed the only fear the joker actually has is the fear of being forgotten, driving him to do terrible things in order to be remembered.

I really like how Cash went from being really afraid of Killer Croc, treating him bad because of it, to gaining more experience overcoming his fear of Croc and being a much better cop.

One of my favourite Joker stories is Lovers and Madmen in which it looks at a darker take on the Joker's origin. In it he is described as evil gone insane. And in the comic under the red hood Jason Todd deduces the Joker isn't as insane as he lets on as it's more of a handy justification for all the evil stuff he does (he says this to the Joker's face and it actually not only shuts him up but makes him stop smiling) So yeah there is something to be said how the Joker is more evil than crazy.

Yeah while I enjoyed the Mad Love reference, I got the sense that Arleen Sorkin and Mark Hammil were kinda reading their lines almost robotically here (save for one or two lines that deviated a bit from Mad Love which was done really well, like Joker's sarcastic "Of course Batman" bit).
It seemed to me like the voice director wasn't all in with some of the Mad Love reference to me, so Arleen and Mark sounded off a few times... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Riddlers point is mute considering most people are not stupid, just average, and Zsasz view of most humans is a simple minded mindset that is merely there to justify his killings. Many people are not “zombies” that act with no intended purpose, that’s merely a sweeping generalization that holds little weight. The rest are agreeable enough.
Real men use stick shift Zsasz was the opposite of that, it just made me believe he is a sick and pretentious idiot. The rest of them are agreeable enough, although it doesn’t justify there actions as criminals.

I love these tapes. It's a great way at actually establishing Arkham Asylum as a real mental hospital/prison that tries to understand it's many villainous patients. It says a lot about how sadistic and psychotic the villains are when most of these tapes usually end with the patient disturbing the doctors.

Really interesting to see things from the villain's perspectives.
Another interesting perspective of Batman is that he's a government funded agent that has been sent to Gotham. This was part of Militia dialogue in Arkham Knight, where a soldier was telling his friend that he saw a video on the internet where Batman is funded by the government and came to America to rid crime in Gotham.
I find it kind of tragic yet funny how even the the doctors admit they are unsettled by their patients. That's how insane they are, even these trained psychologists are pushed to their limit.
What do you expect when you're living in Gotham, the city full of criminals and your hero is a guy who dressed up in Bat costume? Gotham corrupt you phsychally and mentally.

The Harley interview was done much better in the animated series. This seems like she was reading from her script and the director said "close enough".
Yeah, something about those Harley lines were delivered almost purposefully flat. Had me wondering, since I hadn't played the game, if maybe the tapes left there weren't actually from Arkham but recorded later as decoys.

I find it interesting how Scarecrow does his own tapes since Johnathan Crane is an actual doctor in the DC universe. Even in Arkham Origins, if you check out a page of check in and out times for doctors, you'll see Crane was the last one who checked in, but he never checked out.
It's also really cool how in the last tape, we get a scene where Batman shows up to stop him.

Harley was so innocent and full of joy during her time working in Arkham. It almost made me cry when Joker started twisting her mind and seducing her.

A normal person couldn't get manipulated like that by Joker. Truth is, Harley was always mentally insane, it was just hidden.
Funnily enough, I don’t think she was. Her tapes use a lootttttttt of the dialogue from the episode “Mad Love” of Batman The Animated Series, and her demeanour makes me think that she has a similar origin. In that origin, it’s revealed she only got her PhD by giving sexual favours to all her teachers in college, and her intention was to become rich and famous by analysing “crazy” people like the criminals at Arkham, and obviously one of the prime candidates for that would be the Joker. So in a cruel sense of irony, she was the one who got manipulated, when really that was her intention.
Either Harley just sucks at her job as psychiatrist or she just out of her head. She thinks that Joker is "In Love" with her while in fact, Joker is obsessed with 2 things on his life: himself and Batman. If you play Arkham Origins, he made the story of the whole bad day thing when got interviewed by Harleen (Before she turned Harley Quinn) and he's very fascinating with Batman who wouldn't kill him when he has a chance. But, Harley thought he talked about her. Joker noticed that and he manipulated her psychologically and using her as his assistant. He's even admitting to Batman that beating Harley is his hobby.

I've always wondered, from what I know about the comics (which isn't much mind you) Joker has always been resistant to attempts at treatment and psychiatric evaluations. He always drives the interviewers insane or freaks them out or something along those lines. So I wonder how well Joker would fare in an extremely harsh imprisonment like a totalitarian prison or a concentration camp.
He'd run the place within weeks. He gets off on people hurting him. If he doesn't like his enviornment, he'l change it to his needs.

These are some of the best in game collectibles ever. The fantastic writing and connections to the plot + world building and being some of the FIRST that keep going when you exit the menu to say the least.

The scariest thing about Victor Zsasz is how realistic someone like him could exist. He isn't some psycho mastermind, or a super villian with a power gimmick like the Joker, Riddler or Mr. Freeze. Similarly to say Michael Myers, he's just a pure evil monster, who regards no life and only sees people as his victims.
How did I never notice Killer Crocs reference to the Croc from Peter Pan? He ate Cash’s hand and left him with a hook Just like the Croc ate Hooks hand giving him his name. The Kill Croc says “tick tock ” which is a reference to the Croc from Peter Pan eating Hooks clock that was in the hand he ate and the ticking is when we know the Croc is around. Such a cool little reference.
Joker says "Tick Tock" in the game, and even calls Cash Captain Hook (or one of his minions did).
I only hope that Batman was able to save Dr. Cassidy before Zsasz could kill her.

In the Road to Arkham comic book their encounter is shown. Zsasz kidnapped her and took her to abandoned hospital. Because she has picked his brains he intended to literally pick hers. She was saved by Batman. She appears in Arkham Asylum. She is the doctor with the red hair.

@@jacrispy3275 In all honesty Cash slightly deserved what he got by croc. He doesn't have a concept of understanding of croc's life and he continuously pisses croc off. If you go and poke a real crocodile enough and it took your hand, you're just called a dumbass for having pissed off a crocodile. Cash being the genius that he is pissed off a massive humanoid crocodile capable of not only being pissed off but understanding being bullied and mistreated. A common thing with many "rehabilitation" facilities they have more fun just treating you like nothing and outcast you than actually treating you.

Batman gloating over scarecrow in the end was awesome to me. That part of his personality that takes pleasure in his work, and probably revealing why Crane is obsessed with him.
If the story, combat, enviroment, platforming, atmosphere and nostalgia wasn't enough they add these in aswell. What a game.

I absolutely love games that have these extra pieces for fun.
One thing I think is interesting is that I find these clips more memorable than the ones from say the BioShock series, with a some exceptions. I think it’s because with these clips, you can actually stop and listen to them, while with Bioshock, you’re playing the game while they’re playing, so there’s less of a chance that you’re actively paying attention to what’s being said. Also, the characters in the Arkham series have more distinctive voices than those from Bioshock.

always wonder why the docs never once try Joker with anti-psychotic drugs and sedatives - no matter how severe his madness is those should kill off his Joker persona or at least make it controllable.. unless there's some people who are magically immune to anti-psychotics and sedatives (which I've never heard of happening)?

Reading the comments on this video, some people believe Joker might not even be truly insane... he is a criminal mastermind after all, and his insanity allows him both to escape judgement for his crimes and literally escape from the most tragically insecure maximum security psychiatric prison in the world.
i don't think he's psychotic. he never claims or seems to have hallucinations or delusions actively, he has a personality disorder which is much more deeply-engrained in one's psyche than psychosis, and needs tons of therapy to get through.
Victor Zsasz is one of the few characters that relate with the modern world and are very underrated within DC comics. He’s only represented as a cold-blooded killer using phones as his trail but his ideology is much more interesting and that’s what Dr. Gretchen attempted to dig into. When she said Victor ‘needed’ to kill, it’s pretty disturbing because he’s actually in-pain so he has to subtle his pain by murdering others.

@@danielclaw8251 That's honestly its own kind of intelligence in my opinion. Intelligence is about coming up with the answer, not how fast you come up with it. Even the way he kills is meticulous, almost like Jigsaw only without him justifying the killing by saying they kill themselves. Riddler is more amused by the fact people fail so he can stand back and admire that it was his intelligence that killed someone.

While again I think intelligence is more of having THE answer. A dumb person would come up with an educated guess as to how many of something is in a jar. Riddler already knew the answer. I think intelligence is not really being clever but how it is you find THE answer to something. Most don't consider cheating honorable but it IS intelligent if it means you now have the answer.
