Being a two time war vet myself, his breakdown at the end of First Blood, in front of the Colonel, was emotional as can be. And Sly's performance was Oscar worthy. I don't watch war movies anymore, but I remember his performance as a vet who felt absolutely alone in the world. Sly is a great actor and he knew how to portray that image with utmost respect to those REAL PoW's and war vets who lived it.
Great actor? Come on, he's not much of an actor, and since he's never been nominated for an Oscar, I think we can assume why. He just has his own appeal and fanbase and we all love him. And if you think Sly is a good actor, what does that make Joaquin Phoenix?
I just saw First Blood. I never made time to see it and I’m sad I hadn’t until now. What a fantastic film. Especially highlighting the PTSD that American seemingly wasn’t ready to acknowledge or deal with. Man, what a performance at the end.
Masterpiece in cinematography , editing , acting - music is heartbreaking. This is the best Sly film ever. Its 2024 and you can watch it in one go without getting bored.
Sylverster Stallone admitting he isn't proud of 2 and 3, that it was his fault that they didn't strike the tone he would have liked to. Humility is cool.
Yep, but not entirely his fault, in the 80's the audience started to change, didn't want depressed antiheroes anymore like in First Blood part 1, he just gave people the entertainment they wanted at the time.
Epic. Recently rewatched and First Blood is just too good! Seeing it for the first time growing up in the 80s was awesome. The battle in R4 was also pretty great.
I appreciate and respect how the feels about the second and third film. They're not on the level of the first or fourth (perhaps not even five) But they're still fun times. I just respect how he can recognize thier faults and not just say "yeah they're horrible" like someone like Schwarzenegger would do with most of the Terminator sequels. First Blood at 41 years old remains gold, just showed it to my little brother and he absolutely loved it. Generations to come will always watch
Sly tells a lot of the same jokes in interviews over the years but I’m charmed by it every time. Plus I understand that’s just how doing press works,it’s a relatively recent phenomenon for people to have access to every single interview a person has ever given
The novel as it was written by David Morrill was very dark and if it would have been made as it was in the novel would have never been seen again as a matter of fact Stallone tried to buy the negative if they were going to use that version and destroy it so it would never be seen it was just horrible and makes Vietnam veterans seem like bad guys when they were really victims and those nasty disgusting hippies were really a true disgrace to the country, Stallone is a great writer and knows how to make a great movie that will make the audience will cheer and first blood is one of the greatest action movies of all time, now 2 was awesome as well 3 was better than it was given credit for it just was released during a time when the cold was was ending, with 4 it was just to short of a movie and he was a little older by this time and with 5 last blood the character didn't seem like the Rambo character that I've always known he didn't have long hair and he was just plain getting old and not the muscled bad ass dude Rambo that he once was
@@monicadhaliwal1791 yes the novel was published in 1972 and the movie first blood wasn't made until 1982,it was a very dark story and Rambo wasn't even the hero in the novel was a psycho path who killed everyone he came across and in the end he shoots teasle and trautman blows Rambo away, but thank God Stallone came along and rewrote the story, Stallone is just a better writer than David morrell
I luv u so much sly I will never forget watching Rambo with my dad on the old floor model tv everytime it came on he got me the knife for Christmas I luv u dad
As a kid I hated first blood and loved Rambo 2. As an adult I realize that first blood is a masterpiece but 2 is still kind of a guilty pleasure even though I realize now it's got great action but the story is crap.
@@michaelkrolewski7406 Because Sly did say he is a good choice. But Gosling is 42 so to old for playing pre Vietnam parts. No one will look like Rambo its obvious.
Doing a First Blood prequel film is going to be tough being that not only does it require a twenty year old Stallone lookalike but a twenty year old with enough acting depth. That's going to be a big challenge. Sly Stallone and Sasha Stallone could play Rambo's parents. Also what about Josh Brolin as Trautman?
I love ALL the Rambo films! Although I will admit that Rambo 3 has a kind of weak storyline. Rambo 5 is great but suffers from slowness in quite a few scenes (mabey because of Stallone now being in his 70s?)
Rare movie where there aren't really good guys or bad guys,or has a clear distinction between right and wrong. Just survival. All characters are motivated by what they believe is right. Teasle played it wrong from the beginning, but Rambo did escape from jail and wounded a bunch of cops. But is that right or wrong or just survival.
First Blood is a great film. Very thematically rich, grounded, somber, has a great massage and performance 2 & 3 - 80's action flick / dumb fun popcorn movies Rambo 2008 - Going back to the feel of the first movie while still bringing some element of 2 & 3 but tone down the dumb aspects and making the war feels horrifying than fun like 2 & 3 Last Blood - Justa generic action movie that does not feel like a Rambo movie at all. It's more just like a Stallone action movie
There were a lot of protesters who were against the war, but the author of First Blood made it seem like everyone in America was against it, this is historically false. People in America like in everything else were divided on the war. The people for it were called the Hawks, while the people against it were called the Doves.
Which "last one" does he mean? Rambo was supposed to be the last, he said it took him a long time to come up with a meaningful story and an end to the saga with him finally coming home, and it seemed a fitting end. Then he just trampled all that with a popcorn 5th film that nobody needed except him.
It wasn’t “except him”, the studio was the ones who pushed for the story they ended up going with cuz Stallone and book writer David Morrell came up with a more soulful story for the character but the studio didn’t wanna do it

Sylvester Stallone made First Blood. He was born to play John Rambo and he understood the character.

You still see clips of them in 4.

He should have won a bloody Oscar for this film, how he didnt is ridiculous
1982 was a great year for films, first blood is in the top 5 for 1982 and top 10 of all action films. Give me this any day over modern action films.
