btw this was to me, the best Bucking Billy Ray video I’ve seen. They always entertain but this one entertained at a complete level. Edit was clever, Content was awesome. Character/personality was ridiculous/hilarious. . .and yet, simple, wholesome fun. You are an entertainer. You were born to teach and inspire on whatever stage is available. The RUclips stage, your current one, but there’ll be more.
August Hunicke nice one August buckin is a real hoot I can't think of one video I did not enjoy and that go's for your video's to keep it up friends have a wonderful week end👍👍👍GB tree service
Spencer McGinty yea, I heard about t before and tried it a few years back. It never worked for me. After watching buckin have great success I gave it another try. Works great! Now I just use my beater axe instead of my nice splitting maul.
FishFind3000 good for you buddy!! I’d much rather run my beat up double bit than swing a maul. I run most of my big stuff through the splitter because of how twisted up it is.
Buckin, your vids never fail to put a smile on my face. My dad taught the flick to my brother and I when we were youngsters. Works really great when the wood is frozen really hard - it just flies apart. If dad caught us being careless he'd threaten to make us split standing in a washtub.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for teaching this technique. The flick technique has changed my firewood splitting for the better, which changes things significantly over winter. Thank you.
Watching this from a hospital while recovering from a bone marrow transplant to cure my leukemia.Just had to learn that sweet flick technique ! :D Best of health to you and your family Billy !
So satisfying to see a pro at work...guess I'll just have to stick to my splitter...the wrists ain't what they used to be. Welcome big time to all new friends finding their way here :) Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!
Your a beast when it come to splitting wood. You inspire me to get out in the woods and cut and split firewood. I just finished putting two old plumb axes back into use with new handles. Love it
Great video! Many decades ago my dad split wood for the wood burning furnace we had back then -- ash, hackberry, red elm -- using that method. I could never master it. Dad could do it one handed while I resorted to a maul and steel wedges. He milked cows by hand and had some impressive hands and arms.
I've split a fair amount of wood with a hydraulic splitter and how fast you go through this stuff with a regular ol' axe is astounding. If I get the opportunity to split more in the future I'm giving this a go. Thank you for your time!
Glad you put up this video, my dad showed me how to split wood with an axe 60 some years ago. You're right, it does work best with a double bit, that's all we had when I was growing up. Dad kept one edge sharp enough to shave and I knew better than get that edge in the dirt, the flick method, (never heard it called that before) helped keep the axe out of the dirt. That method is easy once learned and even works with a maul.
Alway's like to watch you enjoying yourself, yet your working at the same time, kinda like working a fun hobby in a way.. Take Care out there friend's and Have a safe weekend..
GOOD OLE BUCKIN YOUR JUST LIKE AN OLD FRIEND TO ALL OF US! THANK YOU FOR YOUR KINDNESS! A BIG HOWDY TO ALL THE NEW SUBSCRIBERS YOUVE LANDED IN A MOST EXCELLENT PLACE!
I did relax Buckin', hope your getting some time to relax as well. I'm liking the flick method. Welcome to our new subscribers, good of y'all to pull up a stump with us. Make sure to smash those hitch hiker buttons 1,2,3,GO! Good seeing the rest of you guys Kindness strong ! Be you, be true, be kind!
Great fun! Have a safe trip to Indiana, Buckin and Hogan! Good luck to all the residents of that fine state. Hopefully the warning has gone out on the evening news and families have taken to their shelters. Have a great weekend everyone! Shankers
I want to get into wood heating, and so splitting, and I've watched a lot of splitting videos; and your style makes the most sense to me, Buckin' Billy. I'll put off buying a pickeroon for now too; although I think I might need it for loading the trailer.
Thanks fir the tips, Canadienne fella. I'm getting better luck now chopping on soft ground with a double bit than I did b4 on concrete with a chopping block and using a splitting maul. My luck now to be spending 6 months in a dougfir thicket on the Oregon coast, doing some landscaping and "thinning" . Axes getting some exercise "Axercise".
I totally agree 💯 % and don’t short yourself neither Triple B. You also make this world an awesome place and your channel always puts a smile on my face and gets my Butt outside to start Bucking/splitting wood!!!Thanx!
Great Exercise for the body and the Brain. It's like moving meditation to me. Dude I throw axes, too. One in each hand from 21 ft out. Single ax longest consistent throws from 42-45 ft. Both single and double headed. My favorite is a Montgomery Wards Power-craft double bought in the late 40's Just found you. Love your Stuff Your really polished enough that you could do a cool ass show on DYI or PBS or The Comedy Channel.
Hey brother, I've recently started watching your videos and must say they are highly entertaining and educational! Keep up the good work and god bless!
the only thing i can ad to the flick method if your not careful , is that the axe will try to turn in your hands , so be careful, but what Buckin says ,VERY AFFECTIVE Another GREAT video, like, like, likeHEHE!
Welcome to all the new Subs this week. Everyone enjoy the weekend. Have a good trip to CHI/IND Buckin', wish I could make it to the airport, but duty calls. Be Kind.
I really don't know how to describe this. Since I discovered ol Billy Ray here, he has gotten to be like medicine to me. I will be going through the day and all of a sudden something comes over me and I tell myself, "It's time for a shot of Billy Ray." So I come into the house, turn on RUclips and watch a video or two of Billy Ray, and I'm good to go again. Don't know how else to explain it????
Morning friends from across the pond. Regardless of the time is 5 am over here it's always good to catch with you all. I've restricted my waffling here lol as everyone seems to say a few words I find myself writing a book. Have a great weekend. Hi and welcome new friends joining us great decision to do so. Be safe keep warm and most of all be kind you never know all it takes is a small act of love and kindness to maybe completely change someone's life.
Holy buck! This would've saved me so many hours of kicking off half-split rounds and years of frustration... now I can show my sons and save them all of that brick wall head bangin bs... thank you! P.S. You have yourself another subscriber P.S.S. Your side jokes and random tips are amazing!
Buckin, you are welcome in my home and at my hearth anytime buddy! Come visit the wilds of North Wales.... land of dragons! Love you channel, I am only just coming to it but I love it, Phil!
Thats great cheers dude. By the way iv tried that flick trick with splitting fire wood. Works brilliantly take a minute to pick it up but its defiantly the way to go. I like the way you pros create youtube vids to show some of the tricks of the trade and give advice. Again bud great channel
Billy, if you get another request to show this, could you put a bright chalk line down the center of the top of the axe head to make the orientation through the swing stand out more? I think it might help a few of us see it a bit better. 👍🏻
Thanks for one of your best video's ever! I have a typical German axe, way to heavy, and it won't flipping, it's to massive in the head...I email you, i hope i can order one by you. I put some pictures to it, how we live here.keep up your kindness, it's inspirational! Can I call you my friend?
Thanks again for ANOTHER great video Buckin'. Got an axe question. I'm way-more than just stoked to have my 4lb US axe head in the que to become Buckin' Special , but I know I'm not the only one curious who we could support and send a head to for a Shabango Axe? If I had the Buckin' Special and a Shabango Axe at the same time, I'm pretty sure I could conquer all the gnarly oak rounds -and even the politicians- down my way in Northern California. What to do? Maybe I could pay a bit more, and you could pay a "royalty" to the inventor of the Shebango Axe, and be "licensed" to produce them for the subscribers here too? I want me a Shebango too!!!! I'm envious of your Shabango! Who else wants a Shabango?? What to do Buckin'??? Thank you. P.S. August, it was your "Unboxing The Buckin' Special" that brought me here to this great place, and special family in the woods. Thank you.
Buckin, I’ve recently got into my axes a lot more detailed after finding your videos. I’m obsessed now, how do we get on the list to get a buckin special?, is there a website? I would absolutely love to get one. I’ve had a recent handle break and after watching your videos I’m inspired to build my own … Thanks buddy!
Thanks for this, Buckin'! I appreciate the tip, and sure many others here too.. Just came across your site there bud and seen some of your work. Amazing I love it. I have been using an 8 lb splitting maul for splitting my wood with a real long handle.. Would you suggest I use an axe instead? Cheers friends and always be kind.
BUCKIN! I want to build a double bit axe for splitting. Like you I enjoy axe's chainsaws and the simple things in life. So friend give me an example of a good Double bit axe and how to choose the handle length. Love win's
how tall are you friend and do you have a fair bit of experience throwing one around these thing are helpful to know advising someone ,, but personally a 33'' handle is an ok length try to find ahead with a not so thin profile as it can stick and not split you want it sharp and then to spread wood. keep an eye out
Hey billy just subscribed brilliant videos mate Im from the uk and just bought my first power saw any advice on running it in ? Its a stihl ms 461 keep it up buddy
great saw they break em in a bit at factory but if ya like alot of full then off then full squirt digg in for a bit then let off got to runn it sharp always ,,,always
Flickaroon maybe? I am nice and kind Buckin... hahaha. The flick method is worth to try. That Buckin character is one flicker isnt he. Cool too. I'm looking forward to that beast of an axe we decided us for making. I just had to make some down payments... hahaha. I need a heavy one for my collection. Then I have axes for a century to come :D Have a lovely day people. Make sure to hit that thumbs up. Love from Norway. Mort
Buckin' Billy Ray Smith I know it will be fantastic. With your knowledge around the use of an axe it will be top knotch. Wish you and your family a good evening. You and Hogan will have an amazing journey together. Mort
