  • This video describes the process of casting in plaster from a waste mold. It is part of the Nasher's Materials and Process teaching resource designed to describe some of the different methods sculptors use to create art. In the plaster mold you can add some cement Portland to make more resistant the copy to preserve the image, but make more difficult to refinished if is made with plaster only

Thank you for sharing. I have a question, how can you do a mold that can be reused several times?

Either you must use another material like LATEX. or you must make the plaster mold around the object in such a way,, t, so there are no UNDERCUTS where the final object might break off.. like an ear for example.

Do you let the washed casting dry before assembling and pouring the mold?

Not necessary to dry 100% but need to be ready to accept a coat of liquid clay with soap to release the outer mold ( to be destroyed) then the plaster copy is to keep and finished later and make copies in silicon rubber or latex

I have no idea why people do plaster casts into plaster molds. If you were to make a RUBBER MOLD, you could recast if there were imperfections during casting. Once you destroy the mold, it's over. If the cast pour is bad / defective, that's it. Resculpt.
BUT!, this kind of artist is not my expertise so there may be reasons for this which I do not know.

Probably because using silicone rubber is too process-y and they don't really plan on making more than one copy of it? Not sure but as a beginner with no proper knowledge about all of this.
This method is somehow more doable to me 'cause I find it easier and less complex. I could be wrong though, right now I just don't have the access to all the right information and materials needed.

3:25 you show liquid plaster then claim the next step is to invert the cast and let it dry. this doesn't make sense because gravity would force the plaster out of the mold. what is your major malfunction, youtuber?!
