Funny the guy is named Alex.. that this launch guy is talking to.. had me laughing.. I work as a fiber engineer for AT&T and the tech is freaking insane.. some people just have a different brain than most.. Much Respect for guys like this.. I see some really unbelievable shit every week that just blows my mind.. All this data, video, voice, ect, ect, traveling down a tube of glass the size of a human hair that is over 10mi long and spliced together only regenerating signal every 50miles across the country in milliseconds. I wish I could show you some of this stuff... I know you get it, your mind would be BLOWN!!!
Most of your stock gaskets are made by companies like Fel=pro, Mahle or Cometic . Stock MLS head gaskets are really good and shouldn't downplay them just because their "stock". There are some MLS gaskets with more layers which is better and thickness. I've open many of FEL-PRO boxes and find gasket, seals, main crank seals either have FORD logo or part number. Ford uses a lot of Fel-pro and Mahle gaskets and seals
Wait what? I'm just watching the replay. Let me go watching the pre recorded first before I comment. As someone who knows how to building engines, measure clearances and such, I MUST watch this...
Facts. I had a gen2 aluminator I put gen1 comp cams in and stuck in my 2013 gt years ago. Vmp gen2r on ms109. Car was a beast. I put it together in 2019 and it's still going and taking a beating today with the current owner just on e85 now
I love love love this !!!! Alex your the man I’m glad someone put people in there place . What happened is definitely the engine builder fault. And the ring gap is definitely wrong!!!!!!!
Dewalt has actually come a long way with their automotive tools. Especially their new ratchets. They offer more torque than the milwaukee, and they are fiberglass filled and the batteries and ratchets are oil resistant. Also their 1/2 impact is on par with milwaukee as well I believe. And their drills and drivers are on par as well. From what I have seen Dewalt is actually more prevalent in construction and home DIY, and Milwaukee is more the automotive. But like I said they are catching up.
I don’t know if Ford still has it but they used to sell an engine that was sort of like an alluminator for the 2007 through 2010 GT 500, with the 5.4 L engine. This engine at Ford was a short block which was cast-iron, came with upgraded oil pump gears, mahle rods and pistons and was specifically a built short block designed for the GT500. It did not come with cylinder heads
I have that cold test machine, I run it cold once engine installed, with starter, no plugs and cycle the key until oil gauge reads normal. Then plugs, then start, warm up, and ALOT OF DECELS
When I had an iron 6.0 LS built the shop gave me back pretty much every old part off the engine. It was a stock rebuild so I didn't really want any of the old parts but they gave them to me anyways.
Maaaannnn you’re makin logical thought process on my thought processes and I’m starting to question if I should continue my engine part collection and build. To spend around 30k and have it live less then say a couple thousand miles I’d be sick. Not to mention at that level I don’t have extra men dude . Thinking about selling all my Custom 2KR Build and going aluminator 5.2 XS which now is looking like to be slightly cheaper and more reliable. 😭 you just killed cool engine build.
I agree with you Alex but what about those aluminator warranty engines that get sent back? I know it’s not something anyone wants to talk about but it does happen. Did you know Holbrook is actually who looks over these warranty engines and determine cause of failure??? Now I could go into more with them but their reputation shows their own. Great content! Keep up the hard work.
If I didn't buy crate, I'd likely just buy the tools necessary to assemble my own engine. Finding a machine shop to do block and head machine work would be difficult but the assembly would happen in my garage.
I want to add to my "neglect" commwnt during the live. When i say "neglect", im not accusing anyone of neglect or saying i want to prove it at court. Im saying, in terms of optics, there was alot of "meh, itll be fine" going on. Im not even basing that on anything you have said, its all in what we have seen in terms of work done and details brushed to the side. I take pride in my work, when i hand stamp a serial number at work, i make sure to leave the numbers in sequence when i put the numbered punches back on the shelf, no way am i bolting caps in out of order if numbered.
Gotta keep homeboy’s feet to the fire in future shows and remind viewers what happened, being nice and staying quiet will only get you walked on in the society we live in today.
The tight ring gap is more of an issue with the more brittle hypereutectic pistons in the gen2/gen3 than the forged pistons in the aluminators. Still a looser ring gap would be more desirable though. Ford Racing make a high compression supercharged motor!
It blows my mind that this is a known high hp high strung engine and will be pushed to the limits so i dont see why he didnt take the extra minute or got you the slightly better part for pennys more compare to now. The felpro vs stock i learned doing coyote and 2v and 302 stuff sometimes aftermarket gaskets are a pain because they dont fit properly either too long or obviously too short but if there is a known part that should be used it shouldve been used. This shouldve been treated as a no stone unturned motor because its not a bs NA low hp motor. I can only say looks like you got a friday afternoon before closing time motor been there done that it sucks!
Alex, If you had to have only one of your builds for the rest of your life, which would it be? Im planning for a build in 2024 or 2025. Nothing billy badass, go to the drag strip maybe maybe once a year. Just a fun street car. Doesnt need to be a daily driver car, already have one. So which car of yours would you do or what type of build would you do?
Out of curiosity why not use the company that built the engine originally? Seems like it ran great for many years. Farther along I got my answer. I'm near the guy, and frequent FB marketplace been seeing bunch of stuff from a somebody.
Ive been watching this closely and what I’m lost on is did the builder not think hey this guy may take this apart and find the shortcuts we took. It boggles my mind that someone would do this kinda work and have their name attached to it. I hope you get it right and get some return compensation.
A few weeks ago you were hating on UAW Ford workers for not putting in matched seats and not tightening up lug nuts on Mustangs. Just saying. Cometics had a reputation for leaking water in the day, not sure if that changed or not. Like you said though, I'd think you'd wind up with more than a "basic" stock gasket. Then again I'd be much more concerned about the hammer job on that cam. If there's a piston kissed you've almost certainly got a bent valve and pulling the heads apart is a good move. A big measurement you missed was rod bolt length; That's a good way to know that you've over used your rod bolts or not. A "bound book" for your freshly built engine isn't a bad thing at all. Also, have a dude on a forum I'm on who had a TBSS with a built 6.0 by Modern Muscle. Bunch of shit was supposed to be included such as the oil pan baffling that caused it to munch the bearings (again) afterwards. A name is zero protection. Also, transmissions can be just as bad or worse. Shout outs to D&D Transmission in Fairmont MN who managed to make a basic 4L65E in an Escalade last 300 miles. The money loss is bad, the time loss is arguably worse.
You're trying to get aluminators and Coyotes to run 200mph in 6-7sec. These guys are sending rockets at thousands of miles an hour head into space or near space and parts return back to where they started, while we try and keep pistons inside the hood. Crazy
Dewalt, Milwaukee??? I remove all critical fasteners by hand. Mains, caps and ESPECIALLY head studs with a torque wrench, so I can verify the "working" torque values. And I'm no guru engine builder.
I believe the engine builder messed up a 5.4 engine for @boostedlifestyle friend years ago. It was all fucked up and they went back and forth about it. Would have to watch those videos again.

I agree with adding copper sealant on the head gaskets, and its a MUST when installing exhaust manifolds.

I legit would ask him to cover everything that he physically touched that part and it's supporting mods.
