One of the most popular vans ever, these were all over the place in the 80’s as a kid. Airbags werent in most cars back then steering wheels had a unique look to them that isnt possible anymore with current airbags.
I have an 89 E350 26' motorhome that weighs 7,500 lbs.
Not a pleasant thought of having a head on collision.
It doesn't even have shoulder harness restraint, just a lap belt.
Really??? Haha I'm looking at buying an 85 econoline conversion.
Nice to know that before buying lol
@@ks3223 "Incomplete Vehicles" sometimes didn't get the safety stuff they should...My 1977 and 1978 Econoline E150's had Ford Factory 3 Point...My 79 E150 "Conversion Van" has ONLY Lap belts...Even though 1976 was the year that Trucks in US were required to have the 3-Point belts (Shoulder Harnesses)
35 Miles per hour. Wow. that steering wheel basically would've killed him
Imagjne at 70mph
As someone who loves these vans, this is hard to watch.
watch out for brick wall season, they cross the road alot more then
my husband is considering a van just like this in great condition, this is concerning.
I thought that the white fender sticker was a, “this van means nothing to me” sticker.
i dont feel so safe driving mine any more lmao that driver hit that steering wheel hard!!!!
weasel884. u should the seatbelt will break anyway
good thing i swapped out the old seat and seat belts with newer ones from a 1999 escort which surprisingly work well after drilling some holes and adding a few things to install the seats
The next gen (1992-2023) performed way better. And yes, The current E - series dates all the way back to 1992.
no break away steering column.
This scares my van life goals.. I want a early 90's G30 or late 80s
This really isn't that bad compared to a lot of other vehicles I've seen. Chevy is far worse.
I agree. The Astro is a death wish.
This test doesn't seem to show up on the NHTSA website.
It's not from NHTSA
It is from NHTSA but they don't put their pre-1990 tests on safercar.gov. It is available if you look in the database or on the Old NHTSA blog (a blog I made in 2012 that has all of the 1979-1989 NHTSA tests - I dug them up from the database)

@@whattheheck1000 where is that blog by you?? what is the website name?
Where is your blog??
I wish wall tests were abolished, they're worthless as sh**
Would an E250 or 350 perform any better?
If anything I'd assume slightly worse.
So in other words, if you get into a front-end crash in a ford custom wagon, you're basically gonna die, yeah?
Still better than a pinto
