Thank you! I, too, was dealing with holes in the thumb gusset of the mittens I was making. I appreciate that you took the time to demonstrate “a better way” to m1.
Thanks for this!! Every other example I saw is with the yarn held in a different position and I couldn’t figure it out for the life of me! Your demo is EXACTLY what I needed! Thank you!!!
Thank you for such a clear explanation! I wish i found this before i finsihed my project which now does not look like in the pictures😅 . But this will be so helpful when i wil make the cardigan version! Thank you again ❣
Interesting dilemma! I’d be tempted to use the kfb increase, so you’ll still have the intended hole, video is here: ruclips.net/video/kwLP3Q2jUOk/видео.html Does the pattern give more info?
It will really depend on the pattern. I've not come across 'up 1' before. But from a quick Google search, Woman's Weekly seems to say that it's increasing by one stitch, which would be make one or kfb - it's probably an older term I'd read through the abbreviations synopsis that you'll find somewhere in the publication and see what you find. Happy knitting! 🧶
Is this the best to use when knitting bulky on 15 needles acrylic thick n quick. Is their special way I rarely knit bulky but 50 years knit experience and still learning. Love your demeanor a little hard to hear you on my mac laptop, maybe its me. Thanx
I've been doing my M1 stitches this way but it still leaves a noticeable hole. Albeit it's a SMALL hole, but still a hole that isn't looking great in my sweater.
It may be a slightly loose tension or the fibre of yarn that is leaving a hole. For example make one in cotton knitting is less likely to hold together than wool.
Mine too, I am very new at this. My fingerless gloves are coming out nicely except for the loose beginning row. I was so frustrated wondering what I did wrong. Thank you so much for your video!
Thank you for this, couldn't remember how to do this without the hole, I was double knitting the same stitch. Question if you see this, the pattern I am following is confusing as sometimes she asks for M1 and sometimes inc1. I am assuming they are the same?
Hi Wendy, This might be the type of casting on that you're using. For example the knitted cast-on can make a bumpy/loopy style of edge to your knitting, if it's not tight enough. This method doesn't give as many loose stitches: ruclips.net/video/tc6srMnhurI/видео.html The size of needle against the yarn or looseness of stitches as you knit might also be causing this. This video is about loose knitting and how to fix it: ruclips.net/video/KdTChjHjkwo/видео.html Happy knitting!
Hi, yes I noticed this once it had uploaded, the more recent abbreviations tutorials have a higher contrast. Hope you can find a suitable video elsewhere. Happy knitting 🧶
@@KnitWithHannah thanks, Hannah - it’s definitely not loose knitting behind it! I knit quite firmly, and haven’t had the huge FO or running out of yarn problems. They’re not big holes, they’re just noticeable (and annoying to me) compared with the rest of the piece.
@@madamedemonsieur it might just be the yarn that you’re knitting with. Different fibres, plies, weights of yarn knitted with different needle sizes will show more holes with various techniques than others. It’s likely something you’ll have to live with, there may not be a solution now you’re into the knit and only seeing the issue now. Only other option is to use kfb, instead of make one. That sometimes will show less, but there are pros and cons to both. I’ll find the link now:
@@KnitWithHannah thanks again! It may well be the yarn - I don’t use the yarn patterns want, it’s always yarn choice, then pattern - or perhaps the way I wrap, I’m a combination knitter. It’s a while simce I did kfb increases, I don’t remember if they have the same effect.
Thank you!!! I can now carry on without a gaping hole in the pair of mitts I’m knitting :)
Yay! That's good to hear, we don't want holes in mitts! happy knitting 🧶

Hi Judith, so glad this was helpful for you. Happy knitting 🧶
How to M1 when the stitch in the previous row was a yarn over. Do you M1 from yarn over or go row below that has a bar. Thank u for ur assistance.

This is very clear. Thanks. I have a pattern for a Tiny Clanger that uses ‘up1’ is that the same as M1?
Thanks

You make it look so easy! 😊
Hi Amanda! 'Make one' can be overcomplicated... definitely go for the basic techniques if possible. :)
:) Sounds good!

Great technique to make it look neat! Mine always tend to look obvious and a bit messy ;)
Hi Cara! yes, this is a quick way to give a neater increase... let me know how it goes when you use it. :)
Knit With Hannah i definitely will!
So I just had to try it out and so I did! It looks so neat and pretty! Thanks!
fabulous! :)

Yes, unless they have an abréviation list in the pattern which says to do this differently, you can inc 1 with a m1.
Happy knitting 🧶
@@KnitWithHannah Thank you!! No the glossary just said M1 was make one and inc 1 was increase one. 🤷♀ That's why I was confused
When knitting the first row of a project how do you reduce the size of the holes that are made?

Yarn and needles are too close in color. Us older knitters have a difficult time seeing.
