      Flat-earthers just say the Moon gets in front of the Sun as they both travel along 3000 miles above the Earth. But what's really difficult for them to explain is a lunar eclipse, where the Earth is between the Moon and the Sun.

    Predicting the motion of the moon is sooooo difficult … how difficult is it? … it’s so difficult that even the great Sir Isaac Newton couldn’t solve that problem. Thinking about all the variables affecting the moon’s orbit kept him awake at night and gave him headaches!

    • @bmjpdx9222
      @bmjpdx9222 6 месяцев назад

      It depends on how accurate you want to be. Newton showed that the elliptical orbits of the moon and planets would result from inverse-square gravitation. That was a major theoretical breakthrough.
      Take a glance at his Principia Mathematica and you'll see what a genius he was.

      @@bmjpdx9222 The accuracy required at the time would have allowed mariners at sea to determine longitude using the lunar distance method. The lunar distance tables useful to navigators at sea were finally created by the German mapmaker Tobias Mayer some 28 years after Newton’s death building on the work of Newton and others.

    Last time I showed no fear of the lord and went to see the eclipse and considered not that I may have been standing in the way of Gods judgement and that’s why the nation loves people that stare at the Sun like I do but I’m going to apologize in advance to everyone cause I will not be standing in the way of Gods judgement this next eclipse cause I don’t know if that’s what I’ve been missing in my life or not but it doesn’t seem to be anywhere but in the air at the moment maybe I shouldn’t have gone to the eclipse the last time if God wanted to do or not do something God probably wouldn’t have done anything good or bad if I was there since I’m usually so neutral so to try and remain as unbiased as possible while I attended the last time I will not be attending the upcoming eclipse unless it comes to me which by all means I would welcome so long as that’s not a bad or a dumb thing to say. All the same I can’t accuse God of having no judgement if I stand in the way of it and if God does nothing but put on an amazing show for everyone I wonder who paid the price for the admission given most people only pay for the 3D glasses or whatever those are. Probably Jesus probably Jesus paid the price literally he|she (bride|groom X or O idk but I’m not gay) probably fucking loaded ever since God convinced us money was a thing!

      No, not more precise. But eclipses can be empirically predicted from past data, without understanding anything about the orbital mechanics.
