  • It's episode #2 of of my low-budget DIY motorcycle project and fingers are crossed...is it going to run? In this vid I get a fresh charge on the battery and inspect the gas tank, fuel petcock, and air filter systems in hopes of getting it rolling. I invite you to follow along with the whole build series, from troubleshooting to customization, using this playlist: bit.ly/344S2uR

This channel is for motorcycle riders, mechanics, and enthusiasts who enjoy the simple joys of motorcycling, from dual sport riding to fixing up old bikes on a budget. My videos also consider the perspective of short motorcycle riders (when it’s helpful and relevant) in choosing and modifying bikes and equipment.
I’ve been hooked on motorcycles since 1975 when, at the age of 11, my dad brought home a shiny new Suzuki TM75 for me and a Suzuki TC185 for himself so that we could trail ride together in the hills of West Virginia. Since then I’ve worked as a mechanic, owned countless bikes, and even worked in the motorcycle industry for a number of years as a photographer and journalist. Now I do mainly video production and enjoy nothing more than making and sharing these motorcycle videos on RUclips.
Thanks again for watching. Ride safe!

Really interested to see the gas tank after the vinegar and salt treatment. I always liked to rebuild carburetors because they are the main component that controls how well the engine runs. A carburetor that is functioning and tuned right makes all the difference in the world. Funny that most people have no idea how they work anymore, just like film photography. (wink, wink)

Jason Phillips This is my first time trying the vinegar and salt but it’s seemed to work well for others. I’ve typically cleaned tanks with a product called POR-15, a tank cleaner and sealer product, but thought it would be cool to try a low budget route on this one. And I agree on cleaning carburetors being so much fun. This whole project is such fun therapy. #LostSkills

It's always great to hear about more of these surviving SRs...and tame and reliable is just my speed! I just subbed to your channel, too. I don't play banjo but really appreciate the skills (I play a little guitar).

In what proportion do you use vinegar and salt to treat the rust problem inside the gas tank? Thanks.

What is that square part in the back of the fuel petcock? I hav never seen a petcock like that

There's a valve in there so that you don't have to turn the petcock on and off, it works automatically off of the carburetor vacuum. You can see the inside of the petcock when it's disassembled in later videos. Thanks!

Until you etch and coat that rusty tank... all efforts are Doomed. DOOMED I tell you !... really, the micro fine rust goes right through those filters.. and the idle jet is where they go to live and MOCK YOU !

you say: "listen to that..." but you don't stop that shit music not even for one second 👎
In so many RUclips videos it seems to be the music which has to make it. But most times it is nothing but nerve wrecking😣
