- These 2 audio files were recorded at the UNCF benefit 30th Anniversary "An Evening of Stars" Tribute To Patti LaBelle that took place at the Kodak Theatre Los Angeles on Sept. 13, 2008. The Evening was taped and broadcast on BET, WGN-National, and other local channels on JAN. 24 & 25, 2009.

jennifer hudson proved to everybody over and over again she is a beast she redeemed herself from the aretha franklin performance shout to J hudson
she tore up Somewhere over the rainbow. Damn she did it like Patti! Absolutely a master class in vocal control and just old fashion Mahalia Jackson soul! Seriously tore it up! Gave me chills and blew me away...
Patti Labelle is my ultimate favorite singer, I have started loving Jennifer hudson apparently my gilr Patti loves her just as well, cause did'nt she request for her to be one of the ones to sang for her show?
If Jennifer ever reads these posts, I want her to know that everybody is still praying for her and her family. I can't imagine what she is going through.
She is a very good singer.

I love it a whole lot better than the songs she did last year, but i just wish she could have sang a little softer at the beginning and built her way up to belting...it would have made a more whole performance. But she did well...

Fantasia was the best by far! And thats saying alot when u have Latoya, Jennifer, and George in the game! they got kicked off way to early, but in the end the right person won!

she should definitely fire her stylist. fantasia sounded great and had the crowd rocking!!!
I do not want to get into a back and forth thing on here. You have your opinion and I respect that and I have my opinion please respect that. I call it screaming you call it belting. Yes there are a lot of great singers who belt or scream, call it what you want. As far as I need to learn something about music honey, that is so uncalled for. You know nothing about me. She sings over the top like Patti. Most black female singers scream and shout and that is what they call singing. It is about who can scream and sing over each other. Look at Fantasia, Chaka, Whitney, Natalie, Patti, Aretha. They all scream and shout. And they are all considered some of the best singers. I am black so this is not a race thing. It is just a style and the way most black female singers sing.
Comparisons between Fantasia and Jennifer are really NOT in spirit of this UNCF Tribute to Patti LaBelle... Patti's graciousness and sincere appreciation of ALL the performers who honored her will be obvious when everyone watches the broadcast on Jan. 24 & 25...
For now, please just enjoy ALL the audio files I've posted with the generous help of Jojo in Atlanta, who (in the spirit of everyone helping out!) contacted me and offered to turn my audio files into videos - Thanks again, Jojo!

On TV they touch some of the Jhud vocals, it is better here, especially the creshendo, they just butchered it in studio, sounds a hundred times better here!
actually, I retract.... it's a damn good version of an absolutely difficult song

Well if Im crazy then so are millions of people out there who belive FANTASIA IS THE TRUTH. And of course its very noticeable with every performance Fantasia gives. Why do you think the crowd is always on their feet when she sings or performs? Sorry cant say the same for JHUD. And based on Jhud poor album sales a lot of people agree with me SHE BARELY MADE GOLD. Fantasia 1st studio album was already 3 xs platinum in 4 months. So yeah Ill be crazy
i agree 100% fantasia is great i think she just need better writers and marketing management. Plus the girl can actually sing live. Jhud does a lot of screaming. Someone should tell her that every song is not suppose to be song like And I am telling u.

please I think she sang "Stir it up" better than Patti! I may be in the minority but Jennifer had a different forceful tone on the song that delivered (IMO) the song better.
I saw her performances the other day when it aired. Jennifer butchered Somewhere Over The Rainbow. She needs to be coached. She still hasn't learned how to use that big ole voice of hers.
It's on now! "Stir It Up" was flat, and uninspired. I'm sure the other performance is better.
Sorry but both of these performances were not good. Just because a person has a "BIG" voice does not mean that have a "Good" one she needs to learn more control. She becomes FLAT too often then not. She need vocal training. FANTASIA IS MUCH BETTER with her delivery, stage presence and of COURSE HER VOCALS ARE BETTER. Which is why Fantasia won American Idol.
Jennifer does come off wrong to a lot of people.
yea you def nailed it right on the head. jennifer hudson is waaaayyy better than fabntasia. take away the oscars n grammys n u still have a modern patti labelle. its pretty funny when patti herself tells people how incredible jhuds voice is. where is fantasia right now? prolly tryna get rid of that bad case of larymngitis shes had since......was it 04? when she was first seen in the public eye?....jhud is#1 keep trucking boo!
