Older Detroit are hard to start when they’re out of fuel I had one for over 20 years pull the plug out of the intake squirt ether in it as you’re starting it hold the throttle to the floor works every time

I hope the starting problem is a minor one. Do any of you DYI guys know what a rolling Gantry is? They`re fairly easy to build, if you can weld, and cheaper than renting telehandlers. Hang a chain fall or air chugger on it and, save money and your back.
Telehandler was free and much faster.
You guys are moving along with the engine change out. Looking very good.

I hope Martin got his computer out ta check for any codes and the parameters for the Detroit verses Cummins. I know he'll get it running just something simple. Why the new trans.👍🇺🇸

Did you make sure the fuel pump was pumping? Should just need to remove the davco lid and watch the fuel suck down. If it's pumping I'd double triple check the powers and grounds around the ecm and batteries. Good luck, even though we know you probably already figured it out anyhow.

Sounds like cam position or crank position sensor is bad. Don’t sound like it knows where the cam is. Had an old 3406E that the cam sensor failed on that was how it cranked roll over no fire. Thought you said they ran it and broke it in. Kinda surprising it should have just fired right off. I’m sure you’ve already got the old girl running by now tho. Good of you Martin to pitch in and get it going. Hopefully it’s something simple. Best of luck to you guys
That’s what I thought, but I was wrong. The injector drivers were dead in ecm. We thought cam or crank sensor (which ever Detroit reads for rpm) because we had no tach signal when got it running on ether.

that 7 micron filter is for a cummins, everything else needs a 25 micron filter or you starve the fuel pump
Whatever he put in there is what he always ran. It’s the only fuel filter for the engine.
@@TruckingTogetherits a glider, the cummins and mx both have engine filters that are the high micron rating, the davco would be 25 for mx and 7 or 10 for cummins, the detroit needs 25 micron on the frame and a filter base sourced and added with the high micron filter between the outlet of the pump and the inlet line of the fuel going to the head, the idiots at fitzgerald are that idiots, people do the same thing to cats and starve them for fuel if its not a cat frame filter it should be a 1212 number all the others are wrong,

Is the new engine a 12.7L ? I have heard of faulty sensors, bad or improperly programmed ecm, or damaged or missing injector o rings being the culprit.

we choose not to work right now we just moved across the country and are enjoying family time and our new home. Just because we have trucks doesn’t mean we need to be driving them 24/7
