I've got a female that I got from someone who wanted me to remove her from their property. I've had her 3 years and don't know the age, but she's about 13" long. Lives in an old gopher tortoise burrow. I'm in Florida so it's a pretty good environment for keeping a sulcata outdoors.
Sure thing and thank you! I use a powdered calcium supplement for reptiles and I sprinkle it on his food 2-3 times a week. Let me go check on what type I use and get back to you...
Ok I checked and I’m currently using Repti Calcium from zoo med. there are two types one with vitamin D and one without vitamin D three. If your tortoise has access to daily sunlight then you wanna use the one without D3 which is what I use Hope this helps.
I've had one for about a week now, it walked up to us at our barn, I think it was dumped near the road probably because he is pretty big, so now I made an enclosure I did not realize how much of a bulldozer they are lol
What are "other predators?" Like what? I just acquired a young female and I worry about a hawk snatching her from the back yard. Are snakes any kind of problem? At what point do I no longer have to worry about racoons/opposums? Her shell is about 6" long. Do iguanas pose any problem? South Florida here. Thanks
Yes, you definitely want to watch out for any type of hawk or creature that could carry away your little tortoise so you want to wait till they’re about 5 pounds or so and are too heavy to fly away with. I’m not sure what wildlife you have in your area but you have to watch out for possums, raccoons, coyotes etc. until they are Tilly G’s size and can protect themselves. Hope this helps.
@@TillyGTheTortoise That does help so THANK YOU! I've been wondering about weight to help guide me relative to when she'll be safer outdoors. She's a pampered queen at the moment. A neighbor found her in the garden and was frightened of her (hard to even imagine) and had me "remove" her. Fortunately, I had one as a kid and had only good memories and experiences of a tortoise and just picked her up and took her home. Oddly so far, she does not eat any of the beautiful grass in my yard and only likes Romaine lettuce and will nibble at a carrot. I tried opuntia cactus yesterday and no luck, but, I've only had her 7 days. She seems very healthy and her droppings seem healthy as well. The weather in S. Florida is perfect for them but she'll be a mainly indoor dweller until I'm more confident of her safety. She does get supervised time in the sun out in the yard with me and since I live near a waterway, I do see hawks flying above and don't want that to be a problem, so I'll be mindful and cautious. Thanks for your time, experience, and wisdom!
I highly recommend that you adopt rather than shop and don’t buy a tortoise there are so many tortoises that need a good home just like dogs in rescues and fosters, tortoises also need a good home. So check with your local nonprofit organization and look for tortoises that are up for adoption through rescue organizations.
@@TillyGTheTortoise oh goodness, my tortoise is in my backyard and the lawn is primarily clover. I’m worried for him now. I thought it was ok for him to eat
I love your succulent wall. I have a sulcata myself 1 years old they are truly amazing little bulldozers. :) Tilly G is a lucky dude. ❤️
Thanks so much and you know with your 1 year old that they are definitely little bulldozers 🐢💚

How sweet and calm your voice is. The animals respond to you so well.
They have a beautiful back yard to roam and be loved and cared for! 🐢♥️🌺🌸
Thanks so much!
Watching Tily G eat while I'm working is so relaxing and a big stress reliever. thanks!!
Our Sulcata tortoise is 23 years old. Getting ready to build a bigger house for Mr Daisy. Was Miss Daisy, but later had to change it to Mr! LOL
You have great yard. Love all the different plants.
what a character! such a personality! Thank you for sharing!
I love my 5 year old Sulcuta and you are right they do need plenty of space where they can roam and eat.
I love how stubborn they are. Tilly G!
Me too. So persistent!
@@TillyGTheTortoise inspiration for sure!

Yes today i experienced feeding them plants, its good to see them eating, insha allah will get 1 in future
Wonderful video. Could you briefly explain again how you feed Tilly calcium supplements?

Spettacolare filmato nel vedere il Sauro brucare l'erba quasi come fosse una capretta
I would love to have a tortoise, but only for the reason so the tortoise can munch on the grass and I don’t have to cut it.
Awe😊 he’s soooo cute!!! 🥰 mmm
You do n
An amazing job with Tilly G and the fur babies.
Thanks so much! 🐢💚🤗
Is Lancaster, California good weather for them like winter? Since it sometimes snows here.
Sounds like your in the desert so yes, but make sure your tortoise has a heated house for any days that it goes below 60 degrees in the winter!
My tortiose hates everyone, but likes cats. Not sure why. But he won't let me pet him, but he'll let cats sleep with him and hang out
Just like people, not all tortoises are social or personable. Your tortoise probably is just using the cat to keep warm - hehe
I've had one for about a week now, it walked up to us at our barn, I think it was dumped near the road probably because he is pretty big, so now I made an enclosure I did not realize how much of a bulldozer they are lol
They can dig 60+ foot tunnels....
How?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I just rehomed 2 babies today.
Does he ever eat dirt or poop because I read that they occasionally do that.
He actually loves the dog's poop if he can find it but I pick it up quickly so he can't eat it...it's got way too much protein in it for him lol

Do they need anti parasite meds or moisturizer?
Nope
Hi, i have a question, can you have a sulcata tortoise in Santa Barbara?, I’ve been thinking of getting no one😊.

@@TillyGTheTortoise ok! Thank you for the info😁
They dig a lot deeper than 2 feet when making their home
Yep at least 3 feet deep
Is it safe for them to eat clover all day?
In moderation is safe. He primarily eats grass, Bermuda grass.
@@TillyGTheTortoise oh goodness, my tortoise is in my backyard and the lawn is primarily clover. I’m worried for him now. I thought it was ok for him to eat
@@gismygurl Tilly G eats a ton of clover so I won’t worry.
Thank you!
@@gismygurl Just try and give access to fresh grass too if possible, maybe reseed an area of your yard with Bermuda grass for your tortoise.

my brother has gotten one like this, im not so sure, how do i make it like me?
Be nice to it😍
I wanted to
Adopt but they wanted $800 for a 10 year old. No thanks.
Went and bought a baby for $80. You see why it’s harder to adopt
That doesn’t sound right. Where did you go to adopt?
My dog doesn’t do shit to my tortoise I think he’s jealous of my tortoise 😭
Umm... Won't it just go inside it's shell if a predator comes?
Yes, but a lot of smaller tortoises have been badly hurt from dog bites on their shell
Dog ahead
5:44 did you just fart
He makes noises when he eats, like a burp, which means he really likes it lol
