One of my favourite casual outfits is a pair of jeans and a red boat neck top. It's just made out of cotton, easy to throw on but it's a bit more put together just because of the shape of the top! Plus, the colour is gorgeous. Can even be dressed up with more sparkly jewellery, a decorative belt etc for a "smart casual" look.
Yes!! Ethereal just doesn't have a lot of actual casual outfit recommendations, I would love a video of casual for ethereals! (the only thing I know works for me for ethereal is clothes with hoods but I never found it referred to in any ethereal recommendation).
I LOVE that a lot of these recommendations also happen to work for my color season (Winter) and my primary Style Root (Flower). I have Romantic essence (along with ingenue) AND Romantic body type (short, medium/narrow, round). I tend to think that my body/face contradicts my style and color season and I have to work hard to accommodate all of them well, but you're changing my mind! Thank you for this Ellie Jean! Also that top on you! Never thought that would work on a summer! Proves you're definitely a SOFT summer.
I'm a soft summer, in between soft dramatic and romantic body type (can't actually figure it out yet) and strong romantic essence, both flower and fire roots. I play a lot with soft feminine colors, pastels, watery and foggy colors. And especially in winter, I opt for cozy sweaters (if baggy the romantic color balances it out), leggings with flare bottom and cute details like white or pink snow boots, fur, earmuffs ...it works with my essences without being overly uncovered or overly dressy
This was so helpful! I love how subtle a lot of the details were-I have classic as my first essence and too much romantic overwhelms me. I also have flower as my first root (we have the same combo actually) and a lot of these work for that! Dressing too sexy makes me uncomfortable and it was great to see so many recommendations that don’t require that.
Girl... snow leopard print! When my mom let her gray hair grow she started wearing snow leopard print more than regular leopard. Its all shades of gray from dark to light. She looked beautiful in it!! Worth a try if you like that print but not the color. 😉
Something that wasn't addressed here is shape. This can really make a difference, especially in winter when you're more covered up. Romantic essence works well with things that either accommodate curve or give the impression of it. Draping that follows the lines of the body: cowl or draped necklines, dolman sleeves, ruching. Cuts or seams that come in at the waist and back out at the hips (if the garment is longer than waist length). I have several sweaters with a boatneck and dolman sleeves that comes in at the waist (not a banded waist, but a similar effect). Most of the sweaters shown here were very unromantic in shape even if they had specific aspects she wanted to point out. Fabrics that drape well and look lush/luxurious/touchable: velvet/velour, silk/faux silk, chenille, cashmere. Romantic essence really likes a hint/impression of sexiness, even if there's nothing actually showing. I've noticed a cardigan falling off my shoulder even though the shirt underneath is in place or a wider neck t-shirt that has slid to one side to expose the top of one shoulder looks sexier than when those items are in place. Visible collarbones are always good; while turtlenecks can work, crewnecks generally don't. Avoid fabrics and cuts that look stiff, straight, or structured (in a non-body conscious way). Adding one or two romantic elements to a casual outfit can make it work for a person with romantic essence. A tight-fitting t-shirt with a neckline that exposes a lot of the upper chest (with or without any cleavage showing) or a looser fit t-shirt with a drapey cowl neckline and a little shape in the side seams can both work great with jeans for a casual look. Actual loungewear or loungewear inspired items work great if you go for pieces that are more luxurious than athletic-inspired. Think more like wide-leg velvet/velour or silk/faux silk pants, less like sweatpants or leggings. I do disagree with Ellie-Jean on the bows generally. They are almost always ingenue; coquette is a Lolita based style which means its ingenue-romantic. The exception would be something like the cardigan top that was shown, where a floppy knit string is tied in a bow as a closure on a top that is barely staying closed, or on lingerie. In these cases the sexiness of the item is so dominant that any ingenue effect is barely noticeable. You're thinking about what is about to be revealed, not the cuteness. Using a romantic fabric like velvet can add a bit of romantic essence to a very ingenue shape but it's still primarily ingenue. And it took me over an hour to write all of this which is why I don't usually comment on things...
My strongest essence is classic, but I have a touch of romantic. It’s hard to honor the romantic without overwhelming me. This is a great video for ways to subtly bring in romantic touches to my look
agreed :) my main essence is ingenue but i've also got a little romantic and these are some great tips. i am also a romantic body but going all romantic can be a lot
Same here! I’m classic, romantic, and ingenue, and seeing the subtle romantic details combined with details that could be romantic or ingenue (like florals and bows) was so helpful.
@ i love a good bow :) and a good floral- idk what my third essence is, i think it may be gamine but i feel like that definitely takes a backseat to the ingenue and romantic
@@revaconescu6120 I also love bows! I actually wear a hair bow every day, it makes me very happy. Even though classic and romantic are first and I honor them, I focus most on ingenue and my flower root.
As a romantic essence (and ingenue and gamine) I hate animal/leopard prints with a passion: I look bad in small prints and asymmetric/ random patterns, so leopard prints are designed to make me look like a frumpy, messy state. :3 The zebra print there was good for having a bigger pattern, but was so sharp and harsh. I honestly think that large scale and curved shapes are the way to go.
Simple cashmere sweaters in rounded lines over soft casual shirts and soft leggings works well, along with classic lace-up boots and a soft scarf. I personally find jeans to be too rugged for the yin essences unless there is natural or gamine in one's blend.
I have very strong gamine essence and I think I’ve finally landed on romantic as my second most prominent - this gave me great ideas for how to honor that romantic essence without it being too overwhelming! It also is helping to confirm that I do have romantic since there are a lot elements I already tend to gravitate torward
I have classic/romantic essence and I found that the “clean girl” aesthetic works best for me! Obviously a cat eye liner and red lip looks good, but so does a warm bronze look as well. I follow a lot of models on IG who do a clean girl aesthetic and I find that looks best on me too. Adding to the video, flowy wide leg pants and animal print also looks really good on me too! Just think “sexy on vacation to the Greek islands” 😅
I think this would be really helpful to do for all essences. We see pictures of the extremes for each but it’s hard to know how to just do a subtle nod to our essences in casual outfits, in a relaxed setting or even for someone needing a more business type look.
I'm a soft natural with some romantic essence, and I love wearing t-shirt dresses with tie details around the waist (like the Sézane Pippa dress). They're easy to dress up and dress down, and so comfortable!
Would you consider doing one of these for soft dramatic? I struggle so much and never feel like I can do casual without just adding baggy layers everywhere (not the most flattering!). Lovely hair btw!
I’m a Kibbe romantic and these are great tips! I particularly love fur/fluff and sparkle-it’s very easy to have these qualities feel plush and comfortable.
I'm a natural-romantic-gamine. Camisoles are my best friends, I almost never wear tee shirts anymore. I used to always feel crap dressing in a few shirt and trackies or shorts when I didn’t need to leave the house, but literally just swapping out tee shirts for camis makes such a difference
I don’t think I have any romantic essence but I really like these videos. I’m pretty sure I have ethereal essence and it’s a really big struggle to look casual and not frumpy. I don’t have low contrast either. These videos are nice cause casual on one type looks lazy on another and it’s all because of essences. Please make this version for ethereals that’s not just beige and grey minimalist stuff (like every pinterest mood board) 😄🙏
@@strawberrylove5684that’s the hard part, I don’t really fit into the categorization systems. I think I am a soft autumn but some would argue a deep autumn.. i’m neutral with dark hair/hazel eyes and light skin and I look best in mid-tone colours - bright/vibrant colours and grey-ashy colours both look bad on me, they take over. But I can wear cool and warm colours/metals without issue. I prefer warm muted colours like nature palettes (sage, khaki, brown, red, sky blue, brown, brass, gold, etc). I also am tall, narrow and delicate (i’m not round or sharp). I’m flowy and statuesque looking (i’ve been told) so classic ballerina body (which i was). Idk my kibbe type even after years of study tbh. People keep saying I look ethereal and like a mystical creature even not knowing these systems. Like a fairy, a witch, like a goddess like I am from another time (🥹❤). I’m racially ambiguous (i’m mixed race but people have no idea what mix) and can’t tell my age at all. I’m just a mixture of question marks 😂😂 The biggest issue is ethereals look their best put together and elaborately dressed. I look sloppy in casual clothing like sweatpants and even tshirts and button down flannels and kind of androgynous (in a bad way not a cool way). Like rolled out of bed. That’s the big struggle, walking the line between naturally effortless and if I don’t try enough I look dishevelled. Hope that isn’t too much of an info dump 😅😅
@@sim771 While ethereal is more difficult to dress casual, as well as for winter weather, it also sounds like you need to expand your idea of casual clothing. Sweatpants, basic t-shirts, and button down flannels really only look actually good with dominant natural essence. I've also never seen "put together" as an ethereal style descriptor, and elaborately dressed looks might look phenomenal but aren't actually necessary (just like a person of any essence might look their best fully done up for a black-tie event but can still look nice on a day-to-day basis). You probably need a more elevated casual. Think lightweight fabrics, draping, and lines that resemble an elongated s-curve. Clothing that looks kind of new-agey or otherwise inspired by historical fashions (medieval and greek goddess influences work great, victorian style blouses and lighter weight 1920s and 1930s fashions might or might not, for example). Looking at eras that were influenced by older periods with relevant lines can also be helpful; the 1970s had styles that pulled from the 1930s, and the 1990s were influenced by the 1970s. A tshirt with long bell sleeves and an art nouveau inspired design or, even better, a greek goddess styled tissue weight tshirt would be an improvement over a basic tee. Loose flowy pants instead of jeans. I recommend Gabrielle Arruda's deep dive on the ethereal essence. She also has a podcast on her channel where she interviewed an ethereal essence subscriber that I believe had some sort of link to pics from her wardrobe of ethereal essence everyday outfits. Ellie-Jean actually has a tiktok post specifically on ethereal casual. Don't worry about your color season; you're not a clear/bright type or high contrast which are what conflict more with ethereal. It'll require more work on your part than the average person, but it is doable.
This is great! Thank you! I ´ d love it if you could do a video about kibbe romantic in the cold weather , when it’s freezing and snowing. I really struggle with not looking like a snowman ( not the cute kind of way) but still stying warm ( so high neck outfits would be great)
You’re brown hair gives you a really glamorous feel bc it contrasts in a flattering way with you silver jewelry and the cool tone pink of your shirt and makeup 🩷🤎🤍
I'm wondering if these recommendations could also apply to the romantic body type? I could see myself wearing all of these things and actually do wear quite a few of them, but I didn't think I had romantic essence before. Maybe I really do!
Would love your opinion Ellie! I am wondering about the colour white when it comes to romantic. I don’t think it’s typically a romantic colour but I think of Marilyn Monroe (a romantic icon) in her famous picture with the white dress and of wedding dresses being white or at a fancy restaurant having crisp white table linens and I think it has a certain romantic essence to it. Yes depending on the details I think it can end up feeling much more ingenue, but I’ve been trying to figure out why white works for me so well. I’m a soft autumn so it’s definitely not one of my colours but the amount of complements I get in white is crazy. My essences are classic-romantic and maybe a drop of natural. Is my thinking crazy?! 😆
To me casual/comfy clothing means how much I have to think about it while wearing it and how often it would need checking/fixing. So anything without straps is a big no :D

For me, casual also means low maintenance (no ironing, no dry cleaning and doesn’t wrinkle easily)
