Just picked up an older model of this for $16 at a second hand store. Had a memory card in it. Seems to work ok. Just has to be good enough for insurance purposes. Decent features like parking mode and g sensor. Ill probably still upgrade to viofo eventually.
Nice review thank you. I just purchased this today from Walmart it's right about $30 now. I have not opened it yet I do own two yada dash cams from about 7 years ago or so that at that time were $100 a piece from advance Auto. They have an HDMI out which is great you can just plug it right into your TV showing an awesome picture. Also, they were not any good at night unless there was a lot of ambient lighting. They could get license plates during the daytime if you were close because it had a 10 power increase button so you could increase it 10 times the size and record with that but you had to reset it every time you turn the camera on. A little trick I do is I recite the license plate out loud when I have my audio on to help ensure the license plate is retained if I want to do that for some reason. Also, I might mention that the review was fine I did notice that you put it on HD which is 720. FHD which is full high definition is the 1080 so you would have had a much better picture as there's a big difference between 720 and 1080. I also have a new insignia 1080 dash cam from Best buy which is their own brand and I'm pleased with that. That has wide dynamic range called WDR and it does fine at night. However, it also takes a 256 GB card if I recall which is nice if you're using it for a lot of driving. Thanks again have a good evening.
Thanks for the info. I take having a camera very seriously as I remember the accident I had in 2016. There were several witnesses but none bothered to stay around for the police, the guy that hit me of course blamed the whole thing on me, the sheriff that showed up couldn't care less about what I said, I called the police chief but he got mad at me, and my insurance company had already started blaming me for the accident. There was just one problem, I had a video of the accident. The insurance companies RELUCTANTLY accepted that I was not at fault. My biggest surprise, and disappointment, was that my own insurance company, Geico at the time, was blaming me. Of course, I no longer have Geico.
Well, I just tested this dash cam that I purchased yesterday and then saw the review on it after I purchased it. I test them in the house first on a battery with the appropriate hookup. I have decided to return this ASAP. Even on 1080p I'm not impressed with the picture compared to my older dash cams. Also, unfortunately when I removed the protector over the lens it actually left some sort of a transfer to the lens and it's going to take more than just a little bit of rubbing to remove it so I didn't want to scratch the lens and decided to return it. I imagine the picture would look a little better if the residue was removed but there's really no excuse for that residue being on there in the first place. I hope anybody else that purchases this dash cam has better luck with it. Thanks again for your testing.
I cannot get my see my files (videos). When I hit pause on recording and go to my arrows (as per instructions) it only turns mic on and off?? Does not scroll through files
If you want to see the clip from the camera itself, use the M button (menu) to cycle through the modes until you get to "playback" mode. However, the best way to view the clips is to remove the SD card, and go to a computer and use either the card slot or a card reader adapter to view the clips on your computer in full screen.
You can't directly watch on your phone. If your pc doesn't already have an SD card slot, you will likely need a card reader such as this one: www.walmart.com/ip/USB-3-0-Hub-USB-C-Adapter-5-1-Hub-3-Ports-SD-TF-Card-Reader-for-MacBook-Mac-Pro-Mini-PC-Flash-Drive-Mobile-HDD-HP-XPS-More-Type-Devices/1420751061
Both. It has an internal battery BUT it needs to be connected to a cable. The internal batteries' main function is to save the current clip when power is disconnected. Without a functioning battery, the clip being made would be lost if power is disconnected before the clip is finalized. So to answer your question, yes, it has an internal battery but you still have to plug the camera as this internal battery will not last long enough.
The model I reviewed does not connect to a phone. If you want to view the video clips, you must do one of three things: 1)view them directly on the camera, 2)connect the camera to a Windows based PC (not an Apple Mac), or 3)remove the memory card and connect the card to a computer.
@@adreabowen9601 This specific camera the guy showed is not capable of connecting to a phone or any app. Only when u take the SD card out and plug it into the computer you can see the video footages
You do not have to press record for it to start recording. Once it is plugged into your car's 12V power socket, the camera will turn on when you start the engine because it will receive power thru the car's power socket, which in 99% of cars only has power when you turn the key & start the engine. The camera will automatically turn off when you remove the key to shut off the engine as this will stop power to the power socket. On park mode, it will record when it detects at hit. Watch my demonstration at 10:20. However, as you will see in the video, it takes 11 seconds to start recording, which will often be enough time for the bad guy to drive away.
Generally, the cameras that cost less than $80 or so do not connect to your phone. You have to remove the SD card (sometimes called TF card, or just memory card) and you have to plug it to your computer. My laptop does not have a slot for an SD card so I use an adapter, but most desktop computers do have a large SD card slot, so you will need an adapter for converting micro SD to regular SD. Macbook Pros usually have a micro SD card slot you can plug it directly if you have that computer. This camera that I reviewed here does not connect to your phone.
I just purchased this from Walmart today. I have not even opened it however I have some experience with other dash cams. Normally if they have a battery built into it or have a capacitor I believe it's called it's to allow the camera to basically wind down after you turn the car off or unplug it keeping your settings correct. It may keep recording for one or two minutes or so. I will tell you eventually the battery will fail. When the battery fails normally your settings will revert to when it was first manufactured which includes the dates and time being out of sync. I'm using a couple of dash cams for other uses and I simply keep them attached to power all the time so if I set my date or time it stays correct. However, if I unplug it by accident then my date and time etc will be out of sync but it will still record when I plug it back in. I hope that helps have a good night.
On this model you have to take the SD card and connect it to a computer via a card reader or if your computer has a card slot, insert it in the card slot.
This was a awesome review thank you for being so descriptive!

You can read license plates when you set it up on FHD instead of HD.

Just got a smaller one these guys make. 720p and 2 inch screen. But for $10 I couldn't really complain. It's definitely better than nothing
Just my opinion, buy a 32 gig mini sd card and also use double sided 3M tape the suction will give, just saying.
The audio drop won't be an issue, I turn it off so no one has to hear me singing along with the radio. Good review Skywind, appreciate it.
Just brought one wonder how it look at night with dark tinted front windshield
Thank you for your video. Very helpful!
It actually looks like it was focusing on the dirt on the windshield instead of on the road, cars, etc.
