  • This trip Eric and I head out on a creek float.... I had a bunch of lures with me, and tied on... caught a few on a square bill early...but then the Whopper Plopper 110 started to shine and I couldn't put it down.

    Awesome surprise walleye. When bass hit a topwater next to the boat like that it sure is crazy fun. Great day on the creek. Monkey butt got it done!

    I love Love LOVE a Whopper Plopper! Back a few years ago, I caught a 7lb largemouth on a WP down near Orlando...about halfway through the fight, I saw another identical fish chasing the one I had hooked. When he struck, I had two 7 pounders on...one on the front hook, one on the rear hook. The second fish came off right at my feet, so I only landed the one, but that was one of my first experiences with the WP and made a fan out of me! Stay Safe!

      I love fishing the WP’s too, if bass would hit it all year round I’m it sure I would throw anything else! That is an a awesome story did you get any footage of it? That had to be crazy! Thanks for tuning in.

      @@AverageDadFishing I wish! That was before I ever remotely considered making videos! I’ve got a lot of pictures, somewhere of bass we caught over the years at the fish camp we had there, including a 16.25+ lb behemoth my cousin caught. I say 16.25+ because he carried it around in a cooler showing it off for 27 hrs before we finally talked him into finding a certified scale to have her weighed, and 16 lb 4 oz was the certified weight. Stay Safe!

    Greatings from Michigan. Beautiful area. I love the Whopper Popper for Smallmouth top water fishing....it's a blast! Been doing it in the creeks and rivers here for years. Usually I'll get Northern Pike and the occasional walleye on them also.

      That 90 bone is another good one. I think the 90s action is just as good as the 110 just a smaller profile of course.

    • @AverageDadFishing
      @AverageDadFishing  Год назад

      I like the 90’s a lot too… that is mostly what I have and throw. I also like the 60 for smaller creeks… I was throwing the 110 because there are musky in this particular creek and was hoping the bigger profile might get me into one… but no such luck. Thanks for watching… I do have some fun with that drone.

    Haven't used the 110. For creek fishing for smallies, the 60 has been my go to lure, especially in the I Know It color.

    • @AverageDadFishing
      @AverageDadFishing  Год назад +1

      I have also used the 60. I like it a lot, I had the 110 tied on because I was pretty sure there are Muskie in the section I was fishing… the smallies ended up crushing it. At the end of the float I did see a Muskie, but he had already seen me and wanted nothing to do with what I was throwing at him. Thanks for watching.

      @@AverageDadFishing my pleasure. I live in Central Ohio. Oddly enough, I caught a Muskie on a 60 using a Johnny Morris 2000 series signature reel on a matching 6'8" rod, my typical creek Smallmouth setup. I had 8# Power Pro Super Slick braid with a Sunline 12# flouro leader. Hooked her in the corner of the mouth, and she took me for a ride!!! I finally got her tired, and paddled over to a sandbar and got out and finished reeling her in... 40.25"

    What part of the country is this ?? Also, did you change oput the front treble to a single hook? If so, what size?

    • @AverageDadFishing
      @AverageDadFishing  Год назад +1

      Pennsylvania, and yes I did change the treble out. I don’t recall the size of the single hook, I do still have the package I could find it. I don’t think it improves the hook up ratios… but it did improve the not getting a hook through my finger (which did happen last year).

    • @bobrich1950

      @@AverageDadFishing Thanks for the reply. Neat little stream! I totally get the hook in the finger thing. lol I often will pinch down the barbs on trebles, especially that front one. That's typically the one they hit anyway. Sometimes i'll even cut off a good portion of the rear treble. i just hate it when it swings around and impales the fish in a bad spot, or worse me.
