i always feel like i relate to different characters depending on what stage i am in my life and the dynamics at the time. with my peers i feel more like tony as im older and calling the shots in a lowkey way, with my family i feel closer to AJ as i have all these emotions but theres a bottom line that they feel i should meet, with the world i feel like Chris because of all the different goals and distractions that lead him away from this .

I thought D-Girl was a fantastic episode. But I don't know how Pussy breaking down in the bathroom is funny, to me it's so sad that his life has come to this and he realizes the horror of what he's doing to someone who has been a lifelong friend. Alicia Witt is simply gorgeous.

Its not funny at all. It brings me to tears myself..his story and his betrayal of his best friend is tragic in every sense of that word. That paired with Chris’ decision is not good or great. It’s masterful. The score, the acting, the writing, it’s all brilliance. As a writer this show pushes me to my limits in writing. The mind of David Chase is leaps and bounds ahead of my own. I’m jealous of this scene, I wish I had written it. Being Italian and being born into a family like this, I can understand the loyalty these men have for one another. It’s unlike anything platonic or romantic..it’s loyalty woven through the brittle fragments of love for ones self. The end scene is PURE GENIUS.

What is hilarious though is how goddamned butthurt every self-righteous mobster gets when some other mobster gets busted and then turns states witness so as not to go to jail. The actort who plays AJ did a phenomenal job. The fact his name brings passionate vitriol is testament to how well he portrayed the growing pains of an entitled young man... We were all pricks in our youth at times, it's a right of passage. Some grow out of it, others end up like Jackie Jr.

Aint that the truth. The fact is a lot of the time people hate characters for exhibiting behavior that they own share - either consciously or not, and I think its in part because they are experienced enough to know better, and partly because they are hypocrites by calling the kettle black. Ive been in both shoes, and AJ is definitely someone I can relate to, for better or for worse. His ignorant naivety coupled with the self-aggrandizing ego-centrism is something Ive always found annoying to say the least, but once I started actually seeing parallels between him and myself did that annoyance became something closer to hatred towards the characteristics of a typical teenagerm because I recognized how I have acted similarly and long before realizing how at fault I have actually been.

This show first aired when I was finishing high school. 20 years later, I see a lot of Jackie jr in my younger self. Like, almost to a tee.
Despite the head start I was given in life I was always gravitating toward dangerous and self destructive activities. Funny things is, in a way, me and my older brother had a very similar relationship to Chris and Tony (minus the mafia stuff). But ya, he had his shit together and I wanted to be like him but I also did a bunch of stupid shit that he would never do and I wanted to take shortcuts to achieve the success that he did.
Luckily, he chose not to murder me over my appetite for narcotics and reckless behavior. Instead he juggled his own life and managed to steer me away from the dangerous road I was headed down.
I did all the same dumb things as Jackie jr tho. Selling x on a small scale but having no real concept of what the consequences would be if I got caught. And further to that point, involving myself in that world when I didn't need the money and had nothing to gain from it. So fuckin stupid. Pushing away great girls and blowing up those relationships for no reason. Amazing how certain aspects of the show can really hit home...

    • @noone.3532

He was an amazing actor to be sure. His character kind of challenges Tony's toxic masculinity towards Christopher, Brendan, uncle junior etc. while he's sort of faced with his own son having panic attacks, trying to reconcile his own issues with that line between the values they hold, the world around them and the entire plot of spranos really. AJ is the best character because he's a mini Tony, if these guys weren't in the mob they're going to become AJ. . . That's a challenge to fans too. meanwhile AJ was one of my favourite characters for that reason. good art disturbs the comfortable and comforts the disturbed.

It’s easy to just rail against Sal for being a rat, etc but there’s actually a deleted scene that def should have been added in at some point of the FBI Director Cubitosi and Harris when they first bust Puss for dealing H. It shows how they put the screws to him and leverage his family against him and having to flip. Really gives you at least some sympathy for Puss and the circumstances he’s in. He made his choices as to why he’s in that predicament and of course you reap what you sew I get it but that deleted scene at least shows how it’s not as cut and dry when it comes to how they flip someone and again why that scene was never added to S2 I’ll never know.

I dont think there is a SINGLE thing funny about the scene with Sal in the bathroom. Not even the FBI finds it funny. The agent actually looks like he can understand the difficulty Sal has..its a sad scene. Powerful..in no way is this scene funny AT ALL. I think you missed the point of the entire episode. Livia and her conversation with Anthony for instance. Listen to her words. Then pair it with what Melfi tells Tony. Melfi says Anthony feels life is pointless and that the only sure thing is death and Tony agrees with “maybe the kid’s got a point”. Melfi asks about Tonys relationship with his mother. Livia then gives Anthony HORRIBLE advice. She confirms that life is pointless and that he isnt special. Where do you think Tony got his mindset from? Tony is the way he is because of his mother. Anthony is the way he is because of his father. Livia and Tony are both parental let downs. This whole episode is tragic. Its very sad. D girl is my favorite episode in the series. I feel strangely insulted by your sense of humor throughout thr video even though I didn’t write it. Watch it again and remake the video. Not for me, but for you. It's not that it's bad, it's that Chris' is so unproffesional he doesn't understand any criticism he receives because he'll never belong to the life he wants(notice how most of the critcisms they have are easily fixable, which Chris doesn't realize). So while the screenplay won't win any Oscar's, the bigger issue is that he'll never belong to any way of life except the mafia.

This is a bit off topic but when I end up in a nursing home I hope to go to Olivia's. That chunk of meat loaf on her plate has gotta be at least a pound. Reminds me of the Flintstones intro when they put the ribs on the window-tray at the drive-in and Fred's car flips over.
