This machine is what all us coffee nerds is really looking for. Dont listen to jalous haters. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! You are an ever refreshing source of inspiration.
What I see here is a machine that not only an advanced user would appreciate, but something approachable for even a beginner to use. Love the technology integration with the scale, and the pump is so quiet!! How well does the steam wand perform? I'd say if this video gets 1000 likes, that is enough of a petition for Breville to make this a permanent part of the lineup.
This is exactly what the market wants. Even though some don't need manual control, giving users a preset on a button to allow them to benefit from a lever profile or turbo shot approach is next level at the push of a button. Having an option to integrate a scale is just smart. I'd buy this and I bet it would shake up the consumer market in the same way that Decent has for coffee nerds. Strong work Lance!
I suspect, with Bluetooth capability already present, it would be child's play to allow the user to select and upload new profiles to the two buttons..
If I was Breville, I would rubbing my hands satanically at nights and I would be focusing on get this gem out in the market. Honestly, I can't find any reason to deny this masterpiece. If they add programmable buttons as well it would make the only coffee machine someone would need. (Add also a software and an app to have graphs on your phone and just say goodnight to Decent. A proper coffee machine that would satisfy from the most nerdy coffee enthousiast to the the people that just add water to their instant coffee every morning but they own a 30$ espresso machine for the weekends or when they having guests. Lance you deserve this shit to come out and we will buy it. Let Breville know that there is a whole community out there waiting for it
Wow! I love everything about this from the features to the matte black finish (latte art included). I have been shopping espresso machines lately and if Breville puts this into production it’d almost certainly be the direction I’d go. Assuming the price point isn’t dramatically increased, the addition of factory-original flow control (without mods and without losing the hot water function), super quiet pump, plus the scale integration etc. takes this machine into a new category where the feature-equivalent competition is significantly more expensive. If they can keep the price point competitive this would be really hard to beat for a full featured home machine.
Amazing stuff!! This would be an awesome home machine. The most perfect tweaks for what home enthusiasts need. This would never happen without passionate and knowledgeable people like you working with the manufacturers. I really hope this gets to retail soon. Thank you Lance!

What I'd like to see is to digitize the potentiometer and give those 2 buttons dedicated functions: Record (red circle) and Play (green triangle). If you hit the Record button it starts pulling a shot and you control the pump with the knob (just like in the video), pressing the Record button again to stop. The display can show the pressure graph, shot time, shot weight, and ask if you want to save the recording. When you're not pulling a shot, turning the knob would allow you to select any saved profile on the display (with record graph) and then press the Play button to play back the shot. This would give people most of what they want from a Decent without all the complexity and unnecessary touchscreen. It could even be priced similarly to a Dual Boiler, making it an insane value for the espresso community.
that is a fantastic idea! I really love it. Making the graphs, etc, on the screen might be difficult, but I like where your head is! Simplicity was what I was going for while still having control. But I like it!
@@LanceHedrick wouldn't it be simpler and cheaper to allow the machine to use bluetooth to pair with a phone and show there all the graphs and the management of the profiles to save and play?

Fantastic! Breville needs to make this machine, for sure. The matte black looks sweet. Unfortunately the black finish would not go with my kitchen. Wow! This machine looks awesome! I can't imagine how awesome it must have felt to have your wish of upgrading a machine *with* the manufacturer!!! Good on you for giving it a shot by emailing and then actually achieving something amazing. As for the haters and trolls you've mentioned in your pinned comments - ignore them! I'm guessing they're just jealous of your success but regardless of their motives for being dicks just try and ignore them (easier said, I know). I wish I could buy this machine! I'm just at the start of my home barista journey. I got my first coffee machine, a Delonghi which was returned and upgraded within 30mins of getting it home, 3 years ago. The upgrade I went for was the Sage Bambino Plus (Sage being the UK brand name for Breville) and it was ideal for my small apartment kitchen and my price point at the time. Unfortunately I'm only now just getting into the proper barista side of things (beyond just the very basic filling the portafilter, tamping, pressing the go button and pouring) and so I'm looking at upgrading my machine. Finding the right machine to upgrade to is so hard though - mine is hot instantly whereas pretty much all upgrades outside of Sage/Breville take 20+ mins to heat up, it's quick and simple to make a shot in a rush before work, but it lacks features that would allow me to really get into this like adjustable pressure, adjustable volumes/times. This looks like it would be the best of both worlds and do everything I'm after! Whilst your fun and quirky "Turbo Shot" and "Cremina" buttons might not be ideal for me, the rest would surely make this ideal for most, if not all home baristas of pretty much all abilities. As you mentioned the machine has bluetooth perhaps you could make an app that could allow pre-sets like "Turbo Shot" and "Cremina" to be made with the tap of a screen, along with other pre-sets and custom recipes, and keep those buttons for one- and two-shot espresso (just a thought, so that the smiple functionality remains to make it more commercial whilst retaining the quirks and advanced knowledge and abilities. *Breville/Sage, y'all need to add this to your line as it would benefit us as home baristas as coffee lovers, and you guys from a business perspective by bringing in all levels in the home barista market!* I have checked already and sadly its not available yet, and this was posted 5 months ago! With my upgrade I've been looking at switching from Sage because I didn't think they were really "prosumer" devices, but this, being made in tandem with a professional would firmly sit as a prosumer bit of kit and would guarantee Sage another sale by way of me! The addition of scales along with the pressure guage already there is just perfect, for a seasoned pro or a total novice. Please Breville, make this available! Lance, you've got a new fan. This is the first vid of yours that I've seen and I'm hooked. I've subbed, I've added a load of your vids to my coffee playlist...oh, and I've liked this vid to help offset the thumbs downs from the tossers. As you put it: "F the haters!". I look forward to learning a lot from you so please, keep up the great work! 👍🏻 ☕️ 😁
Wow, probably my favorite of all the vids you've made. Exactly the machine I'd want from color to features to the personal touches. Too bad Breville is unlikely to ever make this, too many little things like the scale that might fail and make it impractical due to high warranty costs, but I would buy in a heartbeat if it was available and reasonably priced.
This is such a cool machine! With so much control on flow rate, time and weight, you can just save a bunch of recipes on an app and replay it. The two buttons for the most frequent recipes.
I have never been a fan of Breville, but would buy this, especially the black version. Thanks for letting us all see the in's and out's of this machine, really excited for it's released.
Ambitious, to say the least. The profiling I’d use and it’s a thing of beauty. Would prefer the presets to be program buttons that allowed me to develop my own profiles for a turbo shot or Spro over and lock them in (instead of having a preset on a profile I might not actually like). But a great first step.
If (when) this is brought to market I would happily upgrade my BES920 to it. Well done Lance & Phil (Breville) for entertaining the idea and producing a concept example. 👍☕
Well done, that's a top tier awesome machine! However we all know that the breville smart grinder Is a entry level grinder, and not focused on espresso, with some limitations on steps and light roasts. What do you think about another colab with breville, to develop a grinder to pair with this machine, at the same level? You could include some buttons for grinding 17 and 21g for example, and with stepless adjustments, etc, and that would make a nice looking combo!
One thing I miss when I use non-Breville grinders is the tinted, airtight hopper. It's just such a great size and design. If Breville made a higher tier grinder (say with flat 55mm+ burrs) while keeping the same hopper, I'd be rapt.
I wish Breville would do a limited production run of this concept. I wouldn't be able to afford it, but it would certainly shake up the Espresso industry and the snooty Italian manufacturers. You should try to convince Breville to create a new Smart grinder, that has a larger flat burr set. The grinder world needs Breville ergonomics.
I was JUST thinking this. A Breville grinder with some combination of flat burrs, low retention design, stepless or micro adjustment, and/or a single-dose emphasis would kill!
That is awesome. It needs a web server built in so you can easily program/control it. Point your browser to the machine IP go to town. No need for an app or special tablet.
This looks great. I will say I wish those buttons were programmable instead of a static preset. Looks amazing, hope to see some iteration of these come to preduction. Breville make it happen!!!

Thanks for the video. Hope you had a good stay in AU. Phil and the Breville crew know what they are doing. Impressed by the capabilities of this machine platform and what you've worked on here. Also impressive is Breville's support of specialty coffee and support for R&D for competitors in WBC. Would love to see if they can get a run of these produced. I'd buy the drip tray part for an existing BDB.
I wish breville would make this unit i own a dual boiler and love it but this is on another level thanks Lance for all the great videos please please make this Breville

I want thisssss in a matte white (not with the gold, though a brass accent would be pretty) - I currently have the BDB (reviewed on my channel) but I've been itching for a premium version ever since you mentioned it a video of yours way back when (wonder if you were already working on this back then). It also sounds so nice, like a Tesla VS a 2009 Honda Civic with a broken muffler
Love it Lance, I’ve had the Sage dual boiler for a few years and adore it. If this is the path that we’re likely to foray down then I’m in. Oh and those latte art black gloss accents against the matte black looks very stylish 🤓👍🏻
Lance you were basically in my backyard, I would have shown you about town and shared some hidden gems with you, that said what a machine, it basically does it all, well done
That is a really nice look vs the standard stainless. I'm a big fan of the custom look and people who personalize their coffee bar! And the mods you did to the machine are end game worthy. Great job 👏 👍
Wow so cool. Congrats on making good ideas into reality! I am new to espresso and I just found this video. I LOVE the vibe of cutting edge mods on a machine made by big time engineers and designers. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 At the risk of taking away from what you've already accomplished, I want to ASK FOR MORE lol😁 Please nudge them to make a mass production/for sale LH Dual Boiler. If they could get it on the market at ≤ $2k I would make room in my kitchen for one. IDK how big corp marketing works, but I would imagine a lot of people would love to have this. Wouldn't there be a lot of guaranteed sales just from being pubbed on your channel - like even if it wasn't a dope machine? Request 2: Please do a LH Bambino Plus next. This is my (first) machine and it's maddeningly close to perfect for me right now (Loved your vid on it BTW - thanks). I want the two shot volume buttons to be hard-coded for normal temp (1Cup) and high temp (2Cup) - so you can program one 93℃ shot and one 100℃ shot (for light roast); make the hot button red 🔥👈🏻so ppl don't get confused LOL. Use the auto steam buttons for two pre-programmed pressure profiles (flat/lever), which also saves with the shot programming. VARIABLE preinfusion time, which saves with shot programming. Ditch the auto steam (but keep the auto purge) and make the drip tray bigger.
"Rebel without a cause; Clint Eastwood got nothin' on me." Love this machine, Lance! What a privilege to see all that work, modifying, adjusting, and experimenting encapsulated in one machine! Thanks for letting us see this!
You should do a Kickstarter, so people can pledge money to this to show breville actually how many people are willing to buy this, I would in a heart beat this the machine I've been wanting
@@BBXiong Yeah that's dumb and makes me want to buy the product even less. And often these hype products end up being very lacking. Like the Ode. Oh yeah it's good if you spend another 200 on burrs but out of the box you can't even grind fine enough for a single person V60, my entire use case for such a grinder. How has that company not been laughed out of the market. If Eureka made a grinder that didn't go fine enough people would tear them to shreds. Not saying Breville can't do ot, it's a simple modification but if they make a kickstarter I will never ever buy it. Just make a limited run, if they sell fast make some more. Breville is worth 2.6 billion dollars. They can afford 50k to make a machine.
Very cool machine and definitely interested. If this comes anywhere close in price to what the BDB is right now, this is the choice. Hands down. Great work.
it would certainly be affordable. Obviously a bit more mainly due to the cost of the pump over the normal vibratory (what Decent uses), but still well below competitors.

Such an amazing dream machine and the symbols for your friend is very touching.
thank you! His loss was shocking, but his memory lives on. Thanks for watching!
I love the color and the design of this machine. I’ve never been so excited for coffee. Congrats on this collaboration 👍🏼👍🏼
Just love this! I work for Sage as a brand ambassador so super stoked for this
Wonderful! Thank you
Breville! Shut up and take my money!!!
I didn't know Clint Eastwood was in "Rebel Without A Cause"...I learned something new! Thank You Lance you are so smart!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ for the Jingle All The Way reference. most underrated Christmas movie of all time
just the silent rotary pump and flow control is an amazing addition
No need for an app or special tablet.
for sure. lots of potential here!
The Jingle All The Way reference took this video to the next level.
This looks great. I will say I wish those buttons were programmable instead of a static preset. Looks amazing, hope to see some iteration of these come to preduction. Breville make it happen!!!
Oh we aren't done with it yet! This was for show.
@@LanceHedrick :evil laughter: Good, good.
Looking great man. Slick look to the machine and congratulations on the collab!
Great review Lance. Even if it were a paid review, id still want one. Do hope this concept makes it into full swing!
"Because why not?"
A phrase that been said just a few seconds before a big disaster
🤣😂🤣😂
That's a great machine there, many ways to experiment 👍👍👍
Interesting machine that appears to be user friendly as well! 👍 BTW: t'was James Dean, not Clint Eastwood-in "Rebel without a Cause." (1955).
I was thinking the same but I never can’t tell if he was sneaking a joke in or made a mistake.
I’d love to have one of these! The integrated scale is genius
I don't need it. I don't need it. I definitely don't need it.
I don't need it.
I don't need it.
... *I NEEEEEEED IT!!!*
You are amazing Lance ! Hope Breville allows us to purchase this cuz my home bar needs an upgrade ;)
Love the features on this machine. Clean and simple, yet effective.
I'm sorry to hear of your friend's passing. My wife and I send our Blessings. Lance Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge about these espresso machines, Our Family appreciates you so much... And because of your knowledge,,, we'll get to save a whole bunch of money...
Amazing - I'd buy one
Holy crap mate, this is utterly mind bending and reminds me of all the theoretical hardcore coffeegeeks and home barista discussions from 2004!!!
😮😮😮 Wow dude, i hope there is a market for it!
Wow what an amazing machine. That pump is soooo quiet. Want one now !
It’s probably the only machine I’ve seen to make me retire my 2003 gaggia classic
Man I just wish I could get the pump mod!
Finally, someone has shown that electronic flow control does not have to be the domain of € 5,000 machines.
Awesome video Lance! Very cool prototype! You have great energy and enthusiasm! I was having a funky day and this brought me some joy! Thanks!
This machine puts a smile on my face. An ingenious marriage of function, simplicity and quirkiness.
Love it! Want it! NEED IT!
Awesome video, love the jingle all the way reference (and the community reference)! I just have to mention that it’s James Dean who’s the Rebel without a Cause 😂
While I like the black a lot, I'm with you Jess. White without the gold, just matte and gloss like this machine.
Breville just fired the shot heard ‘round the world.
ha! You're not lying!
Love it Lance, I’ve had the Sage dual boiler for a few years and adore it. If this is the path that we’re likely to foray down then I’m in. Oh and those latte art black gloss accents against the matte black looks very stylish 🤓👍🏻
This is so cool. I moved from a BDB to a Decent and this looks so appealing.
Lance you were basically in my backyard, I would have shown you about town and shared some hidden gems with you, that said what a machine, it basically does it all, well done
Love the Matt Black finish. Nice job!
thank you! I appreciate it!
At the risk of taking away from what you've already accomplished, I want to ASK FOR MORE lol😁
Please nudge them to make a mass production/for sale LH Dual Boiler.
Congrats!!! That’s so cool to have a concept machine. I love the color and design choices. 💯 🔥
Breville should definitely build the Dual Boiler this way, and they should pay you! This is an absolutely fantastic machine.
"Rebel without a cause; Clint Eastwood got nothin' on me."
Love this machine, Lance! What a privilege to see all that work, modifying, adjusting, and experimenting encapsulated in one machine!
Thanks for letting us see this!
thank you for watching! Now to get this machine into production for a short stint... ;)
@@LanceHedrick Been looking for a second machine and THIS would be sweeeeeeet.
Heck yeah! Glad you dig it
Am I missing something with the Clint Eastwood reference? Cause James Dean was the star of Rebel without a cause Clint wasn't in it.
@@Phingolfina He's showing his age a little. :) Love ya Lance!!!
I Love Everything Breville!!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Always the Best Quality!!! !!!!I would Live to see more Breville Videos!!!!🦋
I keep checking back on this video eagerly awaiting news of an official release. It needs to happen.
You should do a Kickstarter, so people can pledge money to this to show breville actually how many people are willing to buy this, I would in a heart beat this the machine I've been wanting
Meh. Kickstarter for a billion dollar company?
I would pre-pay the full price today in a kickstarter if it was an option!
@@221b-l3t many company does it to gauge interest, more like a 'if more than x amount of people wants this we'll make this' kinda scheme.
@@221b-l3t
Absolutely. To take the guess work out of it.
Great video Lance ! I hope Breville launch a production machine based on this prototype !
If Batman had an espresso machine, it would look like this. Looks good, awesome specs, cool stuff.
What’s the model
This was an amazing video! Anyone hating wishes they could work with Breville to make a custom machine like this. Good work Lance
Need this machine so bad. Breville, make it and take my money. Great job, Lance
I was already thinking of upgrading my Barista Pro to a DB but I think I will wait to see if this comes out at some point.... wow what a nifty idea. If this machine came to fruition at a reasonable price point (around $2,000 IMO) I would totally buy this thing....
Same.
Any chance this will be released in the next year or so?
What a tease! I hope this goes to production!
