The riveted pipe was most likely a ventilator. smaller mines, often employed a Stove at the Portal that drew its air by way of a pipe that ran to the back of the workings. As the stove consumed air from the back of the mine, fresh air would be drawn in through the portal to refill the partial vacuum being created in the mine by the stove pipe.
Great job on the video. I get to go through mines all the time here in central Nevada...there are literally thousands of them. I love how each one is like a different window into the past.
great videos mate! thanks great to watch and learn, were from daylesford Australia old gold rush town, great to see whats in the old shafts underground
Would really enjoy hearing more about those individual stories of the Miners it any written record was available ? Perhaps there are/were journals kept by some of the miners ?
Is this your private property? Is it secured by fencing and posted no trespssing? If not, you should do so to reduce the chance of any deaths/injuries from any hazards contained inside to any children or careless adults who might wander into it after you opened it. As in the puplic warning message "Unsaefe mine. Stay out. Stay alive".
Incredible! Thanks for all your research and hard labor and for sharing a look inside this time capsule.

A bit of history remembered.
Bernstein Is still around I see
Looks like the Tallman copper mine in Cobalt, Connecticut to me.
But that's only an assumption.
No, it is not Tallman Mine. I do have a video on Tallman Mine as well though!
