I remember when I was in High School, we used to watch TWA's 747's in training take off and landings from the hall way to the cafeteria. They were so big that it looked like they were floating on the way down to land. Years later ... I was actually able to fly in one, it was really a great experience, a jet you were not crammed into in seats too small and too close together. Instead the plane was spacious. Now that I am getting older, I rarely have the opportunity to fly, but if I were to I would certainly prefer a 747 to anything else in the air.
You all know I love airplanes. The Boeing 747-8 can only be addressed as a make over of the Queen of the sky's. She is in my mind the most beautiful airplane ever and with her new body, shapely wings and heart of gold she is still worthy of being referred to as the Queen. She may be fast, but she is no tramp. May she fly for another forty years.
I wish more airlines would have ordered the 747-800 Intercontinental! It would be awesome to see this new bird flying around commonly such as the 747-400.
Planes amaze me, how did we ever create such complex, precise and difficult technology to ever lift you of the ground in such a great manner. As in the works of the low sound efficiency etc. Its complexity is too hard for my young mind to imagine. Who would of thought the 747 was capable of such great capabilities. Amazing. Simply damn amazing.
That is such a relief, great going Boeing as usual. I remember I had a 17 hour flight on a 747 and I think my legs fell asleep from the engines vibration.
I totally agree - I'm sick of the Boeing vs Airbus argument, too. We say we love aeroplanes and aviation, why not appreciate both, and the other manufacturers, too.
Seriously sick of people genuinely arguing over Airbus and Boeing. They are both great companies, producing fantastic aircraft and innovation. A little competition is fun and healthy but it sometimes gets ridiculous. There are also companies other than Boeing/Airbus that manufacture great aircraft...
A few weeks ago I flew to Bangkok on a 747-400 and it took 10.5 hours. Last week I flew back on an A340-400 and it took 12 hours. Give me a 747 anyday!
That is not a good comparison! The only way you're going to know that one is faster than the other to fly them from the same place to the same place, in your case you would have to take the A340-400 to Bangkok and hopefully it would take exactly the same route. If you fly from NYC to London takes less time than to fly from London to NYC, it's almost an hour difference I think.
I never said it had to do with the planes, it has to do with jet streams and earth rotation. If you to compare both planes then you have to compare going from NYC to Bangkok, you can't compare one going from NYC to Bangkok and the other going from Bangkok to NYC, both have to originate from the the same place. It's like saying if you swim in a river in favor of the current and then some other swimmer swims counter current obviously the later will take more time to swim the same distance than the first one.
I don't know what the speed is for the 747 but I will accept the "slight difference over a long flight if both flights originate from the same place and take the same route and altitude.
120 years ago oceans where crosssed by steamships at 20 knots 60 years later they were crossed by jetliners at 450 knots. Here we are 60 years later still lumbering about in the same big old skybusses. Sad really.
The world is big enough for both the 747-8 and the A-380. Competition keeps markets healthy. Boeing and Airbus are pushing each other and I think that's great for everybody.
Plus, the Sky Interior is just plain game changing and has SHOWN to make time change easier on the individual flying and the 747-81 requires less maintenance and is SOOOO much lighter because many of its materials are composites. That makes the 747-8 better than the A380-800. The only downside out of all of it is... It requires a 10.8 thousand feet minimum takeoff length. Thats it!
if you are looking for a quieter flight, just buy those noise cancelling headphones and when you listen to music on them, flying is like a living a dream (provided you are sitting near the window)
Thank you so much.. I love the 747s so much. they are some of the best aircraft in the world. I love flying on the 747s. I have flown the 747-400 many times before with my former company...Nice..
Hi I was just woudering if you guys think the 747-8 will be the last series of the 747. And if so will you have a whole new plane to replace it? thanks.
That is badass! I Love Technology and at Boeing tech is both tried and true combined with tested and new a balance that offers safety, progress and hopefully profits. nice work people of Boeing! she is a beaute
Some people seem to think that the a380 and the 747 are not competitors because they accommodate two different needs... I always felt like they were competitors, but come to think of it, there's "short-range" 747s and higher passenger capacity 747s. So I guess the a380 is trying to get the market of high-volume cities during unusually high-volume times of the year, while the 747-8 is for year-round flights, and on top of that, it's "cleaner"
BOEING > AIRBUS and I argue that the 747 is more iconic than the Concorde or just about any other passenger plane out there. The Concorde was amazing and it's a shame they canceled the program, but the 747 was the world's largest airliner for almost 40 years before the Airbus A380. My favorite plane I've flown on though is the 777-400. As great a plane as the A380 is, it's so damn fugly ;-)
The 777 is probably my favorite airplane, but the Airbus 330 comes in at 2nd place. The only reason that the 777 is in first place and not the 330, is because of the 777's flawless safety record. Other than that, the 330 is the way to go.
Having flown a lot on both Airbus and Boeing planes...one thing is very clear to me... as a passenger...when taking off...the Boeing jet feels like it wants to fly...the Airbus...lifts off.
objects like planes, ships, and cars are usually referred to as feminine, such as the pronoun "she." They are never a "he." Therefore, calling it "king" does not make sense.
everyone here is hating on airbus, but remember, its airbus you have to thank for the 787, 747-8. if airbus wasn't around to push boeing to make better aircraft and vice-versa, none of these planes would have been built.
I cannot wait till I get the chance to fly on one of these. And the 787 of course. They said that the Legacy 747 has flown 80% of the world population. If the trend continues (not if, but when) at what date will you be able to say 100% of the population? 2018? 2022?
747's 10 abreast seats are little narrower than those on 777, isn't it? Nowadays, people are used to those wider seats of 777's 9 abreast, it's hard to go back to the past.
I remember when I was in High School, we used to watch TWA's 747's in training take off and landings from the hall way to the cafeteria. They were so big that it looked like they were floating on the way down to land.

6 million parts make a beautiful plane.
For me, this is the most beautiful aircraft Boeing has ever produced!
I wish more airlines would have ordered the 747-800 Intercontinental! It would be awesome to see this new bird flying around commonly such as the 747-400.
747, Is my favorite Boeing for ever....
I grew up flying and always stared at the 747s at the airports... I'm finally gonna fly in a 747 (the 400 series) next month!
Safe to say this is the final iteration of the 747. Its most important role now will be to serve as the next Air Force One.
That is such a relief, great going Boeing as usual. I remember I had a 17 hour flight on a 747 and I think my legs fell asleep from the engines vibration.
Glad to hear Korean air ordered 5 more at the Paris Airshow, the 747 is great, the programme shouldn't die out.
I totally agree - I'm sick of the Boeing vs Airbus argument, too. We say we love aeroplanes and aviation, why not appreciate both, and the other manufacturers, too.
I wholeheartedly agree. Magnificent looking flying machine. The 380 on the other hand looks like a flying tampon
Fastest airliner currently in service.
Seriously sick of people genuinely arguing over Airbus and Boeing. They are both great companies, producing fantastic aircraft and innovation. 747 is the fastest commercial jet. Although you may have had a little tail wind, the 747 does make a slight difference over a long flight.
I don't know what the speed is for the 747 but I will accept the "slight difference over a long flight if both flights originate from the same place and take the same route and altitude.
this could have been due to winds though :/
Best looking plane on the market. I hope more airlines will buy it.
120 years ago oceans where crosssed by steamships at 20 knots 60 years later they were crossed by jetliners at 450 knots. Here we are 60 years later still lumbering about in the same big old skybusses. Sad really.

Love the dagging on the engine cowlings. Probably a good reason for it, but it also looks cool.
The 747 is heading for retirement. I hate that. I never went on a 747. I would love to go on one.
Boeing 747 - Hands down the best looking passenger Jet Airliner in the world. Just my opinion.
Simply the best airplane ever built. I fell in love with the 747 when I first saw it in a commercial for Pan Am back in 1974.
Love 747-8 and 787, best looking aeroplane out there..
I love the 747. The Model 100 had one thing that I wish would return: a spiral staircase. That was aviation elegance.
I hope one day that I can fly with this 747-8 coz it was comfortable when the engines is more silent than previous..and especially at 1st class!
My god, why are you guys fighting? Airbus and Boeing are both very good airline manufacturers!
too bad....the777x is coming soon..
Plus, the Sky Interior is just plain game changing and has SHOWN to make time change easier on the individual flying and the 747-81 requires less maintenance and is SOOOO much lighter because many of its materials are composites. That makes the 747-8 better than the A380-800.

Happily I've already have four die-cast 747-8 models
Can't wait to fly on the 747-8.
if you are looking for a quieter flight, just buy those noise cancelling headphones and when you listen to music on them, flying is like a living a dream (provided you are sitting near the window)
Why the quieter plane?? I love the jet noise :(
.....yeah, me too
+Stormsquad most people hate it
Boeing should do a reissue of the Classic series They can have the old look of the Classics but be all modern and up to date inside.
A beautiful machine! Thanks Boeing!
Welcome back Boeing747!!!
for the first time i feel that Boeing is taking over Airbus!!
both 747 and a380 is beautiful...
This Plane is awesome!!
747 series still my favorite plane.........
Thank you so much.. I love the 747s so much. they are some of the best aircraft in the world. I love flying on the 747s. I have flown the 747-400 many times before with my former company...Nice..
Wokwa,

It should be the KING of the skies. Truly Amazing!!!
Hi I was just woudering if you guys think the 747-8 will be the last series of the 747. And if so will you have a whole new plane to replace it? thanks.
The most beautiful airplane ever! Fantastic job!
Boeing 747-8?? what?so good!!!
welcome to iran,i love 747.8
747 (series) is my all time favorite airplane.
great looking aircraft, dreamliner still my fav.
The 747 has been around since the 60's, it only makes sense the A380 would be nicer considering it's only been in service for a couple of years.
I love stories about 747!:)
Such a beautiful feat of engineering.
The beauty of physics.
Only Boeing could build something like this.
That is badass! I Love Technology and at Boeing tech is both tried and true combined with tested and new a balance that offers safety, progress and hopefully profits. nice work people of Boeing! she is a beaute
I'm going only if the plane is Boeing!
Some people seem to think that the a380 and the 747 are not competitors because they accommodate two different needs... This new version of the icon it's just beautiful , awesome. Well done.
An aircraft like no other!

I wish I could fly that thing....wow
If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going!
a queen always will be a queen
i love to see this plane but did boeing improve radiation protection too?
The airframe is a 40+ year old design, this is an indisputable fact !
This will finish off the A-380 once & for all.
this plain is amazing - the A380 has lost the throne - spell check
Perhaps becuase BOTH make airplanes, just Boeing makes the good ones.
I like the video of the 737 MAX better, but it is about boeing. so its good :)
if it ain't Boeing, we ain going!
im 100% with you on this one. but i got to say the flight controls on the new airbus(joystick) is more challenging and i love challenges.
Queen of the Sky...
Looks great. I'm gonna head down to the local dealership and pick one up.
Beautiful aircraft!
Hi, I shared the video to my facebook wall, and translated to Spanish. Thanks fort this new technology and great results,
The 777 is probably my favorite airplane, but the Airbus 330 comes in at 2nd place. The only reason that the 777 is in first place and not the 330, is because of the 777's flawless safety record. Other than that, the 330 is the way to go.
Bigger and better, she'll always be the kerosine queen.
Caraca vei, isso é que é aviao.
don't forget the 777 is hard to beat
Queen of the skies ^^
Having flown a lot on both Airbus and Boeing planes...one thing is very clear to me... as a passenger...when taking off...the Boeing jet feels like it wants to fly...the Airbus...lifts off.
The queen of the skies because the A380 is the king. Awesome looking plane though.
just remember that the 380, despite of it's awesomeness, EXISTS because of the all mighty 747, which by the way, its still the King of the skies
objects like planes, ships, and cars are usually referred to as feminine, such as the pronoun "she." They are never a "he." Therefore, calling it "king" does not make sense.
MrChevypower I know, it was only a joke.
Actually it's called the Queen of the skies because vehicles are most commonly referred to in female terms. A380 is ugly
Ethan ching queen of the skies is concorde
Outstanding design and engineering excellence. Boeing Creative Aviation, where very good is not enough!
Oh ya! That's my plane!
Wonderful!
Say what? I Love Boeing. :-)
oh please mr "I know everything", can you give me some technical aspects of why Boeing is so much better, no just your personal preferences?
the red one's awesome
The passengers will notice the significantly quieter cabin but not the lower cabin altitude pressure?
Long live the Queen!
everyone here is hating on airbus, but remember, its airbus you have to thank for the 787, 747-8. if airbus wasn't around to push boeing to make better aircraft and vice-versa, none of these planes would have been built.
Going to travel by this aircraft on 19th :)
This is what Patrick flew on going to Germany. He left New York at 6:30 this morning.
which aircraft do you prefer?
I cannot wait till I get the chance to fly on one of these. And the 787 of course. They said that the Legacy 747 has flown 80% of the world population. If the trend continues (not if, but when) at what date will you be able to say 100% of the population? 2018? 2022?

(beginning) Ive heard the same about me ;) Just kidding LOVE BOEING FOR LIFE!!!
boeing rocks
dreamliner
Awwww, when i can afford it, I'll buy you a ticket for a flight..
This thing is huge
