He was answering a simple question in a clinic, not giving a lesson. I had the privilege of going to one of his clinics two days ago, and he did an excellent job explaining some of the things he did.
I first saw this about 6 years ago and i was floored! Not seen it for a good while, but it just knocked me on my arse again. Ha! I particularly love his 'perpetual motion' trick @ 1:22 - 2:03. So special! I've seen a few people do it here on RUclips, and while some are pretty good, nobody can do it like TL. Although it is reasonably technical in it's essence, it is a perfect example of how so many stick tricks use sleight-of-hand, proving that when done correctly, they really can be true Magic. On a sideline, his playing goes without saying. Just incredible! Nice work Mr Lang. I enjoyed seeing this again... \m/ (:o)
So I'm going to play a quadruple paradiddle, over top of 13000 bpm double bass, and with my left hand I'm going to do a basic swing pattern, and just to make this a little less boring I'll wield my drum sticks like a god damn samurai.
Dicipline man. That's what Thomas Lang is all about. Dicipline to practice. Doing all the boring stuff that no one else wants to do, because that's what he did and look at him.
He uses dw 9000 pedals and hardware which together are really close of each other, so when he does the single strokes he just steps on the middle of the two pedals and to the roll with both at the same time, he really likes to do this thing and explains in a lot of videos. :)

Ok it maybe showing off, but if you have the talent, then fluant it. IMO, T Lang more than has the talnet as he is amazing in both playing and his tricks.
