- It's my first time out on the St. John's River here in Florida. While doing some vertical jigging in a variety of dollar weed, water lettuce and lilly pads I hook into the BIGGEST speck I've ever caught to date!

You are my new Go-To fishing guru. You spend a lot of video time in my "backyard" on the Withlacoochee around Floral City. I just bought a "Crappie Jack Combo" direct from B&M so I can copycat some of your techniques around the lily pads around Gobbler Dr & Trail's End where I live. How about going in detail sometime about these strange little rear mounted reels so new to many of out here - I saw you cranking in some line with one on in this video. IMHO - it's just a handy line tender on a fancy cane pole - amI wrong?
What about vertical jigging with a Capps & Coleman minnow rig?
Thanks man! And yes, basically the BAN01 reels are a simple way to manage line on the fly for vertical jigging without all the extra weight of a full size reel. I'll do a video going into more detail on them though!
nice video next video request do a crappie night fishing video
Really nice fish we have fished out of South Moon Fish Camp. We really enjoyed it but never got there when the fish were biting. Great place to fish. Thanks for the video
Congrats on the PB! Very nice catch. I caught my PB last January off a dock in Astor; 2.8lb 15"

Hey Brent, where were you in the St Johns? I live in Melbourne, and access it by going west on hwy 520 from US 1?????
Really nice!
Great video
Nice Catch..
You putting in around Astor?
Nice speck I would say it’s 14 1/2 for sure. Tight lines happy new year.
Happy New Year! 🎣
I watch all of your videos!.
Love every one!.
Question,
Where did you buy that fish bucket you use when you toss your crappies into?????
Thanks man! The schute on the top is called the CatchCounter. You can order them on their website. I did a full review of it if you'd like to check it out: ruclips.net/video/sBTXk8gl-KE/видео.html
How far is it from the south side of Jacksonville
What poles are you using? I'm interested in this type of fishing. Looks fun, thanks for the video and nice catch!
Thanks for watching! I just recently did a gear breakdown of everything I use, if you'd like to check that out: ruclips.net/video/iAX4qn4ctXE/видео.html
That was a stud speck,definitely over 2 pounds..congrats
Any of the paints will chip off if you don't put some kind of clearcoat finish on it. I bake the jig heads after painting them. Then once they are tied, I will finish them off with some Loon UV Clear Fly Finish Thin. The jigs look awesome, Brent! Give them some clear coat and you will notice the paint won't chip and the thread won't come loose/undone either. Tight lines!
Thanks for the tip! I knew about the baking method afterwards, but my oven is from like 1950 and burns everything 🤣 I've actually started using Stardust paints instead of ProTec. So far I'm really liking them, and they're pretty dang solid.
@@brentallenoutdoorsfl My apologies for not including it in the first comment, but CONGRATS ON THE HOG. Big ahh speck. BTW, still waiting to get my hands on one of those sweet Black Slabbath stickers!!!
Appreciate that man! And word on the street is there may be an online shop going up this month with said stickers… 😉
Beautiful fish
Great fish Did you get him weighed / mounted?
Thanks! Nah I didn’t get a chance to weigh him. And I’m too broke to get it mounted 😂
That’s a stud speck. What rod set up is that
I’ve got a few I roll with, but they’re all rear-seat rods paired with a BAN01 reel
Maaaannnn…. Landed my PB today 1/3/23 5:30pm. 14.5” but only 1.61#. Your’s had to be 2.25#+!!!
Hey Brent what is the name of the tool or a rake that you used to make a hole
We call ‘em pullers, but it’s really whatever you can find or make that’ll do the job.
I'm guessing since you didn't show the release. He went in the can.
Haha yeah he came home with me and will make a couple nice big sandwiches
That was a nice fish for sure. Let me ask, I have bass fished forever but started pulling jigs and spinners several years ago here in the Poinsett and Harney, I have caught some good fish but usually only from October til about now, and that has always been out in the deeper water. What do you look for when you stop and start jigging with so much shoreline vegetation. And that was a pretty good trick of opening up that hole in that matt.
My strategy varies on every body of water, but in this instance I target the right depth - 2.5ft or deeper with dense cover on top. Added timber is always a bonus, but doesn’t guarantee they’ll be hunkered up underneath it. Just gotta be patient and keep moving when it ain’t happening
What type of set up do you have on your cooler?

Heck of a fish, congrats!… I caught a 14 inch on okeechobee this year. Lake o has been slow the last couple weeks. I’ve been fishing your favorite canal there, and they have totally nuked it with spray!👎… all the fisherman I spoke with were complaining about it!… They need to stop!
Man, I hate to hear that. I don't even know what they're spraying in that canal! There's barely any vegetation in there to fish anymore! I think it's about time we start an organized coalition against these clowns.
It’s way past due!💪
That was a slab brother!!!!
Hey brother, I subscribe to Brent’s Chanel, and was wondering if you knew where on the St. John’s he was fishing? I fish it as well, but I live in l Melbourne FL, and access it by going out 520 East that’s off US1 in Melbourne.
No idea ole buddy, I’ve never fished St. John’s yet!!!
