The developers realized how stupid the movie's firebending rules were that had them use already existing fire, so they used the show's rules instead. Good choice.

@@evild4v329 because some idiot thought it would be a good plot point to mix the moon spirit with sozens comet, The Generals goal wasn’t to block out the moon so the waterbenders would be powerless and open to invasion like in the show, but in the movie his goal is to block out the moon so the firebenders can bend without already existing fire.. personally I think they didn’t have the budget to do accurate firebending or any bending at that
@evil d4v3 waterbenders are shown to be able to pull water out of the air and plants itself, or control it inside a person's body. Airbender can literally just use the air around them. Only way to stop that would be to create a vacuum, and eartbenders are shown to be able to bend anything that contains even trace amounts of earth in them i.e metal bending. These things means that firebenders having to rely on fire that exists near them actually nerfs them heavily since all you would have to do is remove any fire from the area to defeat them, whereas all other benders would be able to continue fighting.
@@evild4v329 In addition to what everyone else said, the firebenders are utilizing their body and energy as a conduit for the heat. Same for the lightning. They create the heat from within themselves and push it out (think Iroh's breathing exercises).
But the real reason is what Lewis said. Can't have a literal rainy day cancel out an entire sect of bending. The firebenders would have been defeated easily.

I'll never forget the scene where like 6 earth benders has to do like a 30 second kungfu routine in order to chuck a small boulder at a fire nation soldier
and its not even moving at a threatening pace, it just floats by like a block of ice in a lazy river. It´d be absolutely hilarious if it wasnt such an insult to the breathtaking amazingness that is the source material. Also shamolan insisting on playing one of the PIVOTAL MAIN CHARACTERS was such a fucking punch to the face, zuko the 16 year old agile firebending prince that even comes up with his own fire-dagger technique at one point is played by some middle aged flabby dickhead that didnt even invest any time into his role to learn at least SOME martial arts to make it believeable. And i am still convinced to this day that the sole reason for the miserable bending rules in the movie was because M. night Shamalamadingdong was too lazy to learn at least some kung-fu forms.

I know everyone doesn’t like the Nostalgia Critic but his rant at that scene intercut with scenes of Earthbenders in the show is something I think about all the time. I’m sure those guys can lift up that boulder with their bare hands and throw it faster than their bending meanwhile Earthbenders in the show with the most basic training can move a boulder twice their size with ease

The most annoying part of both this and the film is that despite having 3 years of existing content, nobody could pronounce anything right.
If I remember correctly (Because I don't care enough to actually look for the interview), Shyamalan said that the changes in the movie were so they were pronounced the right way. Which is exceptionally narcissistic to me.

The way they decided certain name should be pronounced, _was a decision,_ the world of Avatar mixes several different cultures together, the Fire Nation itself is a combination of Japan _and_ a little pinch of Great Britain, having some Asian names be pronounced in a western way is just a way to inject a little bit of white european into the setting, the same way Guru Pathik was a way to inject a little bit of India into a world that otherwise completely lacked any representation of Indian culture.
@@Cri_Jackal As a chinese I was taken aback and cringed when I read "Aang" but was not pronounced the correct way the first few times. There is no chinese word that starts with the english pronounciation of Aang. Even after checking google, his pinyin is An Ang and is pronounced "An" (like british "aunt") and "Ang" which sounds like the MShyamalan movie. So in this case MShyamalan is more correct

I know they did it in the movie too, but the amount of times they said "Ahh-vatar" was infuriating. I mean the tv show with 61 episodes only said "A-vatar" like a million times.

I remember seeing glimpses of this from a young age I think I turned on nickeloadeon when it was airing and I switched it off seconds later because of how bad it was the constant butchering of character names the way bending works like damn. it was torture.
I love that the bending in this game is actually way cooler than the bending in the movie hahah. I want to believe that the makers of this game didn’t watch the movie too terribly much, or just watched it once then based the rest of the bending off the animated show.
Funny enough, yeah. Like Zuko being able to manifest his own fire as opposed to only controlling already made fire. Fun

The lore dump at the beginning of the game is kind of interesting. Because apparently in the movie universe, the fire nation used Sozin’s Comet to gang up on and kill Avatar Roku. But iirc in the show the comet didn’t show up until after Aang was in the ice. That’s also obviously not how Roku died.
It’s because shyamalam hadn’t finished the show prior to making the movie he was on episode like 2 of season 3.
I love how this game, based off the MOVIE, completely ignores the MOVIE's logic that firebenders have to have a source of fire nearby in order to bend. Imagine trying to play half this game as Zuko where you can only attack when fire is nearby.
With proper level design that could actually be cool. It'd be like "the darkness" but with fire

I always hated that, like, the reason they're overpowered is because they can is that they create fire over nothing. That's the reason they're feared in the show.
Great to see how all of you have such a misconception of the show. Fire benders do not create fire out of nothing. It's based of the sun and gets enhanced by the fire benders breath. That's why at day fire bending is stronger and why a sun eclipse disables fire bending entirely.
The funniest part is that the fights in this game are way cooler than the ones in the movie

So the movie set up the animosity between Zuko and Zhao, and never paid it off. Meanwhile, the game barely touches on it, and still know to end with boss fight between them.
The way that they pronounce the Avatar as the Ahvatar makes me want to die

@@MrHoll87 I think they were going backwards from how it was rendered in Romanagiri (romanized Indian scripts$? I am relatively certain that that’s how they got Iroh’s pronunciation, and they took the pronunciation of Avatar from Sanskrit

I like how it just turns into Prince of Persia for one mission.
The combat rivals that of Metal Gear Rising, and the dialogue is incredibly thought provoking, a prime example is Aang's iconic line "Looks like I interrupted dinner," a beautiful and intellectual commentary on the disastrous effects of capitalism and the One Percent on our society. This is truly the greatest game in the Avatar The Last Airbender: The Movie: The Game genre.
But MGRR's combat is actually fun.

38:43 So aside from how they removed the nuance of Zuko reaching out to Zhao to attempt to save him from getting taken by La and getting rejected by him (since Zhao could be interpreted as a sort of dark reflection of Zuko, in terms of his rage and his need to prove himself), the idea of him getting killed by the Water Benders forming a sphere of water around him and drowning him is a really brutal change.
Reminds me a lot of the deaths in Legend of Korra.

Hey Kev, they made an Avatar Korra game in the PS3/360 days and you cant even find it digitally anymore because of a licensing issue (iirc). Might be cool to get your hands on one.
They had a Bending League minigame/mode that was fun.
Still got it on ps3, wish I would of grabbed it for ps4 when I had the chance. It did some stuff pretty well
But that game was made by Platinum and was really cheap so it was actually a good game considering the budget.
The story was mediocre at best, but the gameplay was pure Platinum.
Too bad that if you want to buy it nowdays you're gonna have to pay a lot for it if you even manage to find a key from some shady website.

Game was part of my childhood. I loved being a sadist on the blue spirit mission and getting an adrenaline rush from all the murder.
As someone who watched the original avatar the last Airbender I'm so glad I never played this game or watched the movie. Which is sad to say because avatar the last air bender was dear to my heart when I was young.
I went to see it with my kid sisters. Hated it. At the time I was working on Cowboys and Aliens and was telling someone about how awful the movie was. Guess who was behind me hearing the entire conversation? Noah Ringer.

Also, since all these big game dev companies can't produce a single banger ATLA game, I really hope Elca Gaming is able to finish his masterpiece and release it to the world for those of us that have Dreams on Playstation. You know what's hilarious? The dialog in this game is better than the dialog in the movie. The Voice actors sound like they WANT to be reading their lines. Compared to the movie where everyone just sounds....bored lol.
When i first saw the movie in theaters i liked it at first, then i watched the show and it felt like drinking iroh's jasmine tea for the first time cleansing the soul.

I like how the Tank Boss literally just drives forwards, backs up, and then drives forwards again and that's all it does. Its like they turned a vehicle from a Lego game into a boss fight. XD

True story: Back in 2019, Michael Dante DiMartino was a guest at the Miami Book Fair. I brought a TON of stuff for him to sign, and one thing in particular was a copy of the manga adaptation of this film. He legit looked at me and asked, "Do I have to sign this?" I was like, "I mean... it does have your name in it."

A videogame based on a movie based on an anime? How can that possibly fail?

Nah i'd rather give credit to the koreans and call this a Manhwa rather than anime. The japanese refused to animate avatar smh, but the korean studios stepped up and made ATLA a masterpiece

Oh God, you dug up old memories long since forgotten. I too played through the last Airbender, but mine was the shittyer handheld version. Pretty sure it was for the ds, might still have it hidden away in storage.

All I could think about is how amazing an actual game based on the show would be for like current gen consoles. like think what you want about Hogwarts Legacy, but I think the game proved that an Avatar game could work out (bc of Legacy's magic system showing a multitude of spells or in this case bending moves is possible to have in a game)
Why does Aang have more personality in this game than he does in the entire movie?
I dont know how to feel. He has more characyer but his character is "my only path is through my enemies" instead of his usual pacifist monk type from the show lol.
