  • The Southfield Freeway connects Southfield, MI and the west side of Detroit with the Downriver communities of Allen Park and Lincoln Park. M-39 also passes by the area with the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village as well as the headquarters for Ford Motor Company. I head north on M-39 from I-75 all the way to M-10 (the Lodge Freeway).

We are finally getting a big warm up later this week although I just saw snow last night (it all melted today). Thanks for watching!

What is your favorite and least favorite Metro Detroit freeway to drive? Mine would be I-696 as favorite because of the tunnels, although icicles can be kind of sketchy and I-696 in Macomb County is messy due to pothole season. My least favorite would be M-39 since it is only 55 mph, but no one goes 55 and aggressive on ramps). I find the Detroit metro area very easy to navigate, you can pretty much get anywhere without the freeway using like two roads. I remember as a kid living in San Jose for about 6 months and if you look at Google maps the roads there aren’t so grid based.

I-696 is quite nice although the potholes are pretty bad right now. With that aside, I can see it being my favorite as well. My least favorite might be the stretch of I-94 right around where it meets with I-75 and the Lodge just because it can be a mess there. I definitely agree that the Metro Detroit roads are pretty easy to navigate except for when you get out to western Oakland County as the roads wind around a lot of the lakes in that area.
