When Katee or Ming-Na go anywhere, that's the direction to go. Put these women in a film together! Chaos and fun would definitely ensue!
Buddy cop comedy/drama? Something like Lethal Weapon but not a direct ripoff, just something funny but with more edge and heart than most buddy cop movies
@@rogerschneider5971 Or maybe a weird comedy like they are competing in a fly-fishing contest but eventually team up to beat the snooty rich guy? I dunno. Something spectacular, to be sure.
I can definitely see them in a new version of “Three Men and a Baby” or “Adventures in Babysitting” they definitely have experience with that genre from their time on The Mandalorian.😉👍
It's not really just auditions anymore, but job interviews in general. There used to be a time when you could walk into a business, ask for an application, and they would interview you in short order.
Now, you have to apply online, and résumé gets filtered through a computer algorithm. If your résumé doesn't include certain keywords, the algorithm trashes your application, and you never hear back from them.
Maybe, if you're lucky, they'll tell you weeks or months later that they're going in a different direction, but most of the time, they just ghost you. It really makes the application process more nerve-racking.
The ghosting part is incredibly relatable. I have been ghosted by multiple job applications. Have even emailed and called multiple times.
@@solitairelyrics I know what you mean about following up and not getting an answer.
About nine years ago, I applied for a job at GameStop. I thought the interview went quite well, but they told me to give them a week before they told me whether or not I got the job. I followed up every week for several weeks, only to be told the same thing.
After a few more weeks, I learned that they not only got a new manager, but he brought in his own people, meaning I didn't get the job. While I was disappointed at first, looking back, I feel like I may have dodged a bullet.
yeah not really a good comparison. the paper work sucks but no employers are forcing you to interview yourself and send in a video tape
I adore both of these ladies. Great actors and very personable.
If you're not going in Ming-Na's direction, you took a wrong turn.
Two great actresses.
Both incredibly beautiful.
I love mings Directions
"We're not going in that direction..." that's messed up, hollywood...
_Everyone_ is a direction. Not every role fits every actor, nothing wrong with that. 🤷♂️
@@Cimlitethey shouldn't disqualify you for race.
Both of them are so fun and cool and inspiring!🎉
I never think about actor type stuff, but that’s a very interesting point.
This is SOOO true. Auditioning like this convenient but so annoying at times. Once I do it good I just submit it. Bump all that editing and doing it over. Too stressful.
You two were amazing icons for me!! And I’m old
Cougars🔥
Both of these women are awesome!!
Ming-na is always the right direction
They are so beautiful and talented it's crazy Miss Kate and miss ming
It's a direction most of us would love to "go".
Just ask Dean Winchester.
Cool interview so say we all ❤❤❤❤❤
Icons ❤
ming na is incredibly beautiful
it-it- the f - it -flam - flames. Flames, on the side of my face, breathing-breathl- heaving breaths
Theyre so fine wow
How is Ming 60 years old??? Damn she's smoking hot!
I am a fan of both of your work. You are both strong actors it would be very interesting to see how you both would riff back and forth on a show/ moive.
Ooh I’d love for Katee to talk
To 8 (can’t remember her name!!)
Nice
Enjoyed the entire podcast. Do you plan to continue doing small video segments, or this a one off? You mentioned it would be audio podcast only multiple times?
Ming Nas humor about it is adorable. "Turn left!" 😂 still sad that people would conifer ethnicity a "direction" tho
Crying me a river. You’re making good money. Every entry is tough.
OMG - KATEE ! You said the wise words! You said the things you're not! There's been so much disrespect for the crews behind the lens for so long thanks to societies 'cult of personality' focus (like, when was the last time the Technical Oscars got broadcast? They were dumped out of the main show to give more time to famous faces), that the skills and knowledge of those people is just continually devalued. By saying this line the way you have, by saying it in a way that those tasks are the skill and responsibilty of those behind the lens, indicates that you value those folks skills and experience far far more then a lot of other performers do.
As for Ming-na being a 'direction', that sounds more like the cop-out to say they don't have the budget to hire her.
🤷🏼💛🫵🏻
Indeed; oh, and don't worry- they've started doing it for regular job interviews too *sigh*
🎁
This clip is pure facts about the acting industry. Even a live zoom call audition is better than a video audition but even then you dont always get a true feel for an actors full potential range for a role or the atmospheric presence they can create
Chun li
There are advantages to self-tapes as well, from a casting perspective. On one hand, yes, it's aggravating to actors for the reasons you outline, but it also opens up opportunities to up-and-comers who may not get the chance to audition otherwise.
pretty sure up and comers were allowed to audition previously, i am not sure what point you’re trying to make here. if it’s an open casting call, then anyone can audition, if it’s closed, then it’s only specific people. whether it’s taped is irrelevant
Loved listening to this entire episode! Thank you!
The fantasy I didn't know I had. Just played out on youtube
Turn left indeed...
Kind of sounds like applying to a regular job. Do tons of effort, have zero clue if any of it is worth and generally get zero feedback or even get turned down.
She is awesome.
Its laziness by hollywood
Don't feel bad. Can't even get a job in a call center without having to do that BS these days.
I'd turn left for Ming-Na Wen.
Is that a
I'll never shake my Ming-Na infatuation.
These two need to be in a comedy together
From a non actors pov tho.... Don't you think the fact everyone has a device to shoot edit and send a self tape.... Opens up opportunities for Everyone?
the casting call is either Open or Closed, whether they’re doing in person or taped auditions doesn’t effect that
Im not an editor im not a videographer !! Lol hahaha Yeah your an actor huh ? So answer me this , so if you don't know if your any good how can you call yourself an actor, seriously how you do the acting scenes correctly without knowing what is good or bad so what do you do than ? How do you gauge quality of your acting at all then ? Why do it if your not good? Haha it's just that when we think seriously about everthing we have Heard about acting , actors, actresses all of the craft in general is a bunch of made up nonsense. You are the "Look" they want and you sound good enough for the role and you can actually do a semi decent job of remembering your lines and have somewhat presentable stage presence and really what else is there ? The truth is with all that in mind all that's really left that makes you great or not is how entertaining you accurately and consistently actually can be on call and on repeat constantly doing the same thing endless takes until they day good to go and on to the next scene must of the time it's simply to give enough data for them to work with , edit, and finally choose which one they want which can change depending on the type of presentation your doing , the particular scene and if it runs smoothly with the rest of the scenes all together. The truth most of the time with most directors is that actors are clay and directors mold you into art pieces for display. So you're basically very expensive clay. It just makes you so sad as an actor these days. It never used to be this way of course because the reason for all we have ever heard about acting is that film used to be be that way back in the old days like the late 30's to 70's and a little in the 80's but by the 90's it was rare and possibly why movie quality went down hill so much even with great acting skills the directors , editors, writers, all of the once hard working but also very talented and artistic but not anymore , everthing has changed for the worse. Scripts are terrible nowadays! Our modern take on what good entertainment really is in film today is a far cry from the past when it really actually was still good !! Hollywood is controlled by crazy lunatic, highly eccentric characters of our Langley Board Controlling Powers making it more of a huge attack on every well loved industry multiverse of unlimited franchise story real estate of ideas, characters, and well loved classic tales & adventures all the world has always Loved so much.
