I really admire how the presenter turned a horse slightly playing up to his advantage in order to teach people the correct way to train at home. Clever coaching and clever video making :)
just to say, a lot of dressage riders don't have their heels jammed down like other diciplines teach. This is because the stirrups are long enough for the leg to fall down and the hips to sink equally in the saddle, when you force your heels down you push the lower leg forwards and tense. Dressage riders often have their heels slightly below horizontal -not up and not forced down- just relaxed. & Obviously she needs to sort her hands out etc as said but that's the whole point. She's improving.
I just did this for the first time in my lesson the other day and it was quite challenging! Then again, I've only been riding or about a year, so I guess I should be impressed that I managed to do it at all!
Love how smooth & quiet the rider is thankyou :) lovely video to learn from
to everyone who keeps calling this video a demonstration of flying lead changes, this rider is giving an example of a simple change, which is a change of lead from canter to walk/trot to canter again. a flying change is when the horse switches lead while still cantering, no walk/trot involved. simple changes are the beginning of flying changes, but is still not the same thing. simple changes also appear earlier in dressage tests than flying changes do. second level for simple changes, third or fourth for flying changes.
I totally agree with you my step mum has been riding for almost 30 years and she is still learning
this trainer is seeing and telling the truth ......i agree totally ...good man
right. thank you so much again. your answer helped me. i am finding a book over dressage hopefully soon. :)
you start by learning to sit and balance. Things like flying changes come with time and hard work.
I started with vaulting because it teaches you to be balanced and strong and you get to learn what the horse feels like when she's moving properly if your lunger is a good one.
I am so agree!
This will help, thank you
i amstill slightly confused. how exactly do you do a flying lead change? i am goign to try to get a real horse and plan on showing it, mainly in hunter/jumper. and some dressage and cross-country. so how exactly do i do a flying lead change? like what do i have to do?
Thanks! What is a normal change? Do you just drop down to a trot instead of a walk or something?
I wish I could do all that! I ride western and it sounds a whole lot easier than this! Maybe one day I'll give this a try..
Beautiful horse *.*
Oh ok! I've heard of it by the name of flying lead change! I'd never heard of it called a "normal change". Sorry about that, and thanks so much for explaining! :)
You can tell that horse is used to dressage, such a nice action, i hope my horse is watching this and taking notes! She is quite a nice rider too just wish it was in a snaffle and not a double bridle :)
why do they wear the bandages or what ever they are round their legs?
great thanks!! :)
Nice.. Very good, beautiful and so cute...
ah ok. thank you! :)
Think the canters a bit slow - but then again i dont do dressage riding
ah ok thank you! you explained it good enough for me!. lol. :)
Sian0151- because it gives support and stops them from there hooves hitting there leg in th of changes but some ppl like them because they are pretty
oh that makes a lot of sense thank you XD
the rider looks a little behind the movement of the horse? :S good riding thou! :)
I think its funny how people can have the cheek 2 sit behind there computer criticising other riders when they havent even the balls 2 show other people how useless they are? This girl rides fine, maybe not grand prix material but she is learning, this is why we take lessons, no one is as good as they think they are just 2 let ye know?
I wish people would get the definition for simple change right it is canter - walk - canter but at elementary level the downward transition can be canter trot walk (ie progressive) but the upward one must be DIRECT ie walk canter and NOT through trot - rant over
That horse is ridiculously beautiful and has such a nice canter!! The rider could be better especially with a how to video, but she got the job done at least.
I think it's good that she didn't do everything perfectly because the man could tell what was wrong - and we could see it. Sometimes it's good to see a "negative" example (not saying the rider is bad cause she isn't) to know what we shouldn't do or what exactly is wrong. :)
Its to support their tendons c: So they dont pull a muscle and such c:
I think the position of the rider is not the best... but the horse was excelent
Transitions are good, but the canter is really too slow. We can count a ''4 beat'' canter, not a ''3 beat''.
I thinks shes a nice rider
Ik right people who think they know everything about horses doesn't even know the first thing about them.

Dont mean to be funny here, but considering the fact he's trying to improve YOUR dressage maybe he should have chosen a rider who can KEEP HER HEELS DOWN!
