My 15 migrated my physical sim from my XR into an esim when i set up my phone, so it’s definitely something that is backwards compatible and compatible with migrating from a sim, without interacting with your provider, was really surprised seeing that feature

Even if you have a physical SIM, this works. When switching to my 13 Pro from a XR, it gave me the same pop up and said that it would disable the old SIM. Took 30 seconds and protects me from SIM swapping. Big win!
Exactly, I had an iPhone 13 and when I needed it replaced through insurance the tech that came to drop it off was untrained as to why they weren’t even including the physical SIMs inside the box anymore when I tried to ask. That was shortly after the iPhone 14 came out, insane they popped the gun that quick

I am on one of those budget phone plans with Metro PCS. I recently purchased a newer phone to replace my near 3 y/0 Samsung A51 5g phone. Hate on the budget plans, but the phones last if you take care of them. Anywho, I now have the Samsung Z Flip 3. I know it's old, but new for me, and was in my opinion an upgrade. The transition between one phone to the other was surprisingly easier than I anticipated. Usually switching phones you'll need a new Sim card. What surprised me was that I could just use my existing Sim, insert it into my new phone, and basically it set itself up. Super easy. I had no issues. I am still unsure of what the Esim is for, but I now have one and I didn't have to call anyone.

If youre on an iphone already using esim during the setup process itll ask you if you wanna transfer your number. Itll then ask you to verify either your screen lock, face id, or apple id password depending on what screen lock type youre using. And then boom its done. I work for a carrier and this makes it so much easier

As long as the iPhone you're switching to is carrier unlocked or is under the same carrier that your eSIM is with, it will always ask if you want to bring your eSIM over.

Great content. You might want to tell people that before transferring data from the apple cloud, they need to update their new phone to IOS 17. Before or once, they do it they'll have to reinstall everything from the cloud again. Thank God for samsungs smart switch
@REALwaffl I got from a RUclipsr who's been using apple for years. He said to update the new phone to IOS 17 before you transfer data, or you'll have to do it all over again. And dam, right, I'm an Android user. You couldn't pay me to use an Apple product.

Wife did it and she had a simmed one before moving to sim free and during the iOS setup it just turned it into a esim didn’t even have to move the sim into the new phone just turned it into a eSIM no worries
They only do that from Apple to apple. It would be a hellish experience if you were switching from an Android because Apple will make it extra hard. They just can't let anything be easy between the two
I hated using E sim when T-Mobile told me they couldn't handle the transfer right there in store and I had to call their customer service 💀 I hope pixel stays with SIM cards

lol till the phone tells you eSIM cannot be transferred, you’re e sim is non transferable please contact your service provider, and that is if you are practically on every MVNO, unless you are on the big 3 your basically screwed
i actually did have to call Verizon to activate my 15 pro max, it wasn’t with a person though just a verizon number that automatically activates the phone, still easy setup imo

Android user shocked that iPhone can actually do something good lol. 9/10 times you don’t even need to call the phone company; all the SIM swap stuff is available online or even via chat. If your new iPhone doesn’t have a pop-up, just go to Settings>Mobile Data (or Cellular)>Add eSIM>Transfer From Nearby iPhone. Both iPhones need to be signed into the same Apple ID and updated to iOS 16 or later. If the carrier doesn’t support nearby SIM transfer for iPhone, your new iPhone will show that the eSIM is on the old iPhone with a message under it that says “transfer not supported.” If the provider does support it, just tap the number and your iPhone will help you transfer the eSIM from the old one in like a minute.
