A great reminder that you don’t mess with people that you don’t know, the most dangerous guy in the room is usually the guy that looks like a Sunday school teacher. He’s not looking for trouble, but if trouble comes, he’s already walked with it before and knows how to put it down.

Worldly society wants to groom out that out of us too. As Jeff mentioned about the ever-changing winds, we're surrounded by this or that, left or right, right or wrong. The foundation is stripped when that's the perceived norm. Though it is truly in people's nature to label and categorize, it's not productive or beneficial.
Christ is perfect, we are not, and need to remember that getting sucked into these superficial battles do nothing but play into the devil's schemes. Following philosophical tough guys (referring to many current voices of character, reason badassery, etc) with advice on how to live counter to the insufferable "modernity," which in reality is just the flawed human nature, is one of many counterproductive activities for morally stabilizing society and humanity. We often aim to bring glory to ourselves and pin blame on others, while denying the reality we're all flawed in our own ways. The devil works through men who center themselves around greatness.
In other words, people like John and Jeff are genuine and consistent in virtue because they are guided by the Lord. As appealing as many masculine or "wise" figures are in today's spotlight, they often avoid the spiritual element of the conversation, which is ultimately the most important of all. It leads to a life Christ wants for us that doesn't cater to our own feelings and wants, but our needs here and forever.
I completely agree with you although ended up trailing off in various ramblings. I've reread my comment and hope the terrible composition isn't too misleading. My mixed arguments may sound like they're criticizing Jeff and John, but that's absolutely not the case to be clear.
If I missed the mark, well I'll do better on the next one.

      I agree
The best survival plan is a right relationship with YHWH through Jesus the Christ and have yourself in dwelt by the Holy Spirit and have your main goal be the carrying out of the Great Commission of spreading the Gospel best as you can based on your spiritual gifts. That way when the hammer does eventually fall on you you can stand in front of the LORD and hear “Good job faithful servant”
But we should be able to protect what’s right
Most folks think of Jesus as some weak pacifist rather than as the tough construction workers who turned a bunch of dock workers and thugs into what became the Church
Jesus took rope and made a weapon (whip) and used it to beat the money changers out of the Temple.
As they left the upper room after the first Lord’s Supper/Communion Jesus told the disciples that a time was coming when they should sell their cloak to buy a sword for protection.
Not to spread the word and force conversions (that has failed and brought shame to the church when tried)
Jesus is the good shepherd, some us are his sheepdogs to protect the sheep.

I'm so confused.. He just said he was "engaging" the enemy? I always thought Chaplains were prohibited from carrying weapons at all in the US or engaging in any direct combat what-so-ever? I even remember reading about a Chaplain who learned how to be a tank gunner in WWII and was disciplined/removed from the military. Apparently this isn't even a hard and fast rule, as some militaries around the world leave it up to the individual Chaplain whether or not they want to bear arms and fight. It's not prohibited by the Geneva Convention. The US however, doesn't allow it under any circumstances.

When Jeff was remembering being talked through his first firefight by someone who himself was talked through his first firefight by a Vietnam vet, and Jeff in turn went on to talk young men through their first firefight, it brought to my mind an image of a warrior’s ancestry. A lineage, not of blood, but of brotherhood and tutorship. Who knows how long back in time that family tree of compassion and courage that these men showed one another goes. I don’t know why it brought tears to my eyes, but it did. God bless our military servicemen, today and past, who protect what they love most.

11:55 this here is the most humble admission a "courageous" person could have. I can tell you everytime I went into a burning building, I was crapping my pants and stressed out, yet I just buried it and went to work. All we would do, is get others killed if we panicked and lost our heads everytime we had to do something this stressful.

Fully prepared for “great story, that never happened” comments, but I want to thank you for making this video.
My grandfather was best friends with Gary Gordon, and when he heard what happened in ‘93, he broke down crying, and said he wasn’t surprised that Gary volunteered to go save the crashed pilot. I was a kid when we were watching the movie, and when that scene happened he started crying, so we never finished it.
His mom always stopped by the house, and one day I respectfully asked about him, and her telling me that she also wasn’t surprised always stuck with me.
That man is the true definition of bravery. The world needs more people like Gary Gordon

I made my way up to the wheel house, and found my Captain kicking it and reading a book, with the engineer at the wheel. We limit text and calls. No social media till 18. But these kids all text on apps and mainly snapchat. They are sneaky too. Use a friend's phone and setup and account or Doing it on laptops. At a time when almost everyone is doing everything wrong its hard to do the right thing. The phones are just the top of the ice berg too. It's the phones, the food people eat, the stuff they're teaching, the list goes on and on. No one in their school bats an eye at kids eating potato chips and candy for lunch but when we did Carnivore for a month (and the kids joined by choice) EVERY school faculty member had something to say about it daily. Sorry to say we're surrounded by idiots. Good for you though standing your ground. I like the way you're handling the phones. Sooner or later we'll have to break down and we'll definitely use some of those ideas.

Some of the scariest times in my life were, playing high school football(I never started), going to college, landing my first job after college(I never did, that's when I joined the Navy), going to Basic Training. All these events gave me what you would call 'the pucker factor'. But I have never been truly afraid of anything. And I thank God I never had to see action. Loved that quote John! “It's easier to die for a good cause than to live for one.” Culture defines courage as doing the right thing in a few moments of terror. True courage is defined by doing the right thing day after day, month after month, year after year. True courage doesn't take a strong body, or mind, or years of training. True courage is a determined will that can conquer evil, strengthened through Christ, knowing that we are more than conquerers through Him that loved us.

So much of this discussion brings to mind Ephesians 4:11-16. When Paul reminds us that as we build up the Church in love to unity in Christ, we can then speak up courageously on so many of the issues that plague our culture. Not as infants being tossed by the waves of culture and human craftiness, but being firm in Christ to speak the truth in love so that all might come to a saving faith.
Love these discussions and the whole WPS community, ethos, etc. Keep up the great work. I always look forward to WPS content and can't wait to read the book John!

The trinity in a person is what I try to explain to others and they don’t seem to care. I’m grateful that you great men are able to teach others values in a increasingly evil world. Thank you guys for trying to help people become better.

Chaplain Strueker was the best instructor I ever had at the University of Louisville, back then he was SFC Strueker and a seminary student. I learned that a soldier could be tough, no-nonsense, as well as kind and truly caring of all he took under his wing. I saw in him a loving husband and father as well as an incredible warrior. He was and still is one of my heroes. I'm glad he's still leading the way as a Christian, an athlete, and as an example of true masculinity.
Thank you, Chaplain, and I apologize for missing the service you held in Afghanistan. Mission came up. I probably needed it more than I could admit at the time.

Pretty easy to keep track of the rocket attacks when they happen everyday. I remember them being like clockwork. Every morning after prayer and every evening without fail for many many months. Always an occasional sprinkle overnight. I recall so many people that stayed utterly fearful each time reacting the same as the first. I believe being so deprived of sleep is the time that i honestly became numb to the rocket attacks regardless of how close they were landing.
Hearing some of these stories brought back some very old memories from Iraq. Some not so good and some that were hilarious.

That is so simple, it's crazy that more people need to be told.

Courage is ability to push through and do what you believe to be the right thing in your heart even when others are unwilling to . I’m a DV after 9 years in the ME and I don’t consider myself courageous but I worked with a few that were unquestionably courageous several of whom are no longer with us . We should talk more about these men and women and less about these clowns . Keep up the good noble work .

when John talked about finding scary stuff and go out and do it reminded me of a book I read years ago called "Will" by G. Gordon Lity....former CIA and political person involved with watergate. He said he was afraid of thunderstorms, so during one he climbed a high tree, tied himself in and not he doesn't fear those any more. Truly a unigue person....

I remember reading that book years ago. What a character Liddy was! He passed away 3/30/21.
When in John Sirica’s court they said “do you swear to tell the truth so help you God?” He replied “No”

    I love this !
As a young boy I was petrified of heights … to the point where I got stuck 10 ft up a tree and literally froze and had to be rescued in a fit of tears !
Fast fwd to 13yrs old I no longer wanted to be scared - I joined my schools rock climbing club and started climbing - the fear was still there, but the repeated confrontation of that fear and desire to advance in skill level helped me to advance past anything I thought possible. Fast fwd again and I took an opportunity to actually work in the very environment that as young boy had me scared almost to death … I started on a “working at height” career path in the energy and oil and gas industry.
That career path and the many skills I obtained along the way enabled me to come to America on a “management and specialized skills visa”
That was 20 years ago and I have never looked back.
Funny enough - I have in the past 20 years in the US been an instructor / manager / director etc.. overseeing specialized rescue from height - specialized rigging - specialized work at height.. and have written company safety procedures and training programs around all of the above - blah blah blah …lol!
What I am saying tho is this …. This video is completely SPOT ON as I have lived it.
So yes - confront your fears and make knowledge - experience - skill and your belief/faith the tools to help you grow past them … but … I will say this … I have always had fear of heights - and I STILL maintain a healthy fear of height … but experience and exposure has taught me how to manage that fear and turn it to my advantage … yet I still am wildly aware of limitations ! So a slight warning … complacency will get you killed pretty darn quick … so be humble in knowing that you never stop learning !
