DKR actually isn't the best for new readers. Mostly because it's a deconstruction and writes Batman a bit differently than how he really is. It's really good, but it shouldn't be anyone's first
@CJ Phoenix I would respectfully disagree with your opinion. Though DKR is a good Batman story, it still represents Batman differently. This should never be how a beginner perceives Batman. He should not be expected as this dark, gritty, and violent hero. This is why the DCEU fails to depict Batman correctly. He is only based from the DKR series and nothing else. Batman: The Animated Series, on the other hand, delivers what makes Batman Batman without driving the story with DKR influence.
I agree as I came to this video specifically because I started to read DKR but I put it aside because I feel like I need a better frame of the character before approaching this story
I must agree, DKR is a great read once you get to know Batman a bit better. The first batman comics I ever got was Year one, DKR and The Dark Knight strikes again. The DKR confused me and I didn't realise how good a book it was until I re-read it many years later having read a few other comics.
@CJ Phoenix I'm not saying it's a hard to understand story or anything, it's just that if it's someone's first comic, that'll be your first impression of who is in comics, which isn't totally accurate. It's not a bad story at all, but it shouldn't be someone's first.
Anyone who wants to get to know Batman better, but doesn't want to read through piles of his inconsistent 80-year-old history, I'd advice to start reading him from the amazing Legends of the Dark Knight series, which started in the 1989 and exists as a separate continuity, which is not bonded to the main contunity of DC and rather exists in a more consistent, grounded world with no retcons, crossovers, and such. It's an amazing series. My favorite Batman series of all time. I enjoyed it more than his main solo series.

His are kinda scattered because for a long time he was considered a joke. If you want a easy place to start. Aquaman rebirth 1 did a great job of introducing the tone and story. Also aquaman annual 1. Made me cry.
The Scott Snyder run volumes 1-10 starting with Court of Owls is the best Batman series I’ve ever read. Consistently amazing, and it’s like watching a movie the whole time. Scott Snyder’s Black Mirror was amazing too. Dark Knight Returns was alright to me, but I didn’t really like the mutant gang and the Batman gang. They got on my nerves. And then the sequel, The Dark Knight Strikes Again is the worst thing I’ve ever read. 🤢
José Oliveira probably start with Extremes that’s the best jumping on point and an amazing story. Don’t bother starting with demon in a bottle or armour wars until u got the basics sorted. I think u would enjoy extremes more tbh. Superior iron man is also pretty great.
The idea that Batman has no superpowers always bothered me. Not only does he constantly perform at inhuman levels of acrobatics and strength, but his intellect and ingenuity are so extreme it must be a super power. Though some stories do treat him like just a highly conditioned person with faults, like the original seasons of the animated series, in general he is treated like having super powers when it comes to his brain and physical abilities
I like that he doesn't and they say he doesn't. I know that annoys some fans but, to me, that means arguably the most dangerous member of the Justice League is "just a guy in a bat suit". To me, it says that anyone with Batman's pure determination, tenacity, and sense of justice can stand amongst gods. That you don't need super powers to be super. Batman is mortal and vulnerable just like us. That just makes what he does more impressive.
It's his experience too. An older Batman may seem infallible because he knows what he's doing. Year One is him messing up over and over and learning and adjusting. Confidence can come across as intelligence.
Ive seen every single animated movie/show and every live action movie/show that has anything to do with DC. But I haven't read any of the comics so thats what im here for
Read synder and capullo series.(a must). Arkham Asylum (get a feel for how dark and how truly fucked up the villains are). Hush. Injustice. Killing joke. If you like these then batman is for you.
It's easier than Batman because DD has only ever had one ongoing series and his highlights are often great writers' celebrated runs on there. Frank Miller run if you read it digitally The Man Without Fear Born Again Bendis run Brubaker run Enjoy!
Batman has many good graphic novels that are easy to pick up and read without a lot of back story and history. But I still recommend to read Golden Age Omnibus Vol 1 - just to get a sense for the genesis of the Batman. Must read material if you want to get into Batman.

Look up the "Legends of the Batman" Collection
Give Batman The White Knight an honorable mention!
Jellydonut0 it’s great but I wouldn’t say it’s a good jumping on point
@@osiancoleman8447 It was good enough for me.
I was hoping Batman Zero Year would be on here it's so underrated
I'm almost sure i saw this same video from whatculture some months ago. Re-uploading videos?
Your list is much better than watch mojo's 😂
Already know dark knight returns,Long Halloween and dark nights metal are gonna be here
Can you do a best aquaman stories list? Since the new movie is out
His are kinda scattered because for a long time he was considered a joke. If you want a easy place to start. Aquaman rebirth 1 did a great job of introducing the tone and story. Also aquaman annual 1. Made me cry.
Both are rebirth series
*Laughs Uncontrollably*
You're funny. That's a funny joke, I love ya for that!
I've read about 940 comic books I love it
I love the dark knight returns and batman year one!
Is casebook in new 52 or rebirth
The Scott Snyder run volumes 1-10 starting with Court of Owls is the best Batman series I’ve ever read. Consistently amazing, and it’s like watching a movie the whole time. Scott Snyder’s Black Mirror was amazing too. Dark Knight Returns was alright to me, but I didn’t really like the mutant gang and the Batman gang. They got on my nerves. And then the sequel, The Dark Knight Strikes Again is the worst thing I’ve ever read. 🤢
Black Mirror was amazing.
Where can I get or read the jokers 5 way revenge?
Thank you, thanks you! For this!
i want to start reading/buyng Iron-man comics books, but I don't know what story arcs to begin with.
Can I have some suggestions?
Demon in a bottle
José Oliveira The extremis story arc
Extremis
Demon In A Bottle
Armor Wars
Those Are The Big 3
José Oliveira probably start with Extremes that’s the best jumping on point and an amazing story. Don’t bother starting with demon in a bottle or armour wars until u got the basics sorted. I think u would enjoy extremes more tbh. Superior iron man is also pretty great.
The Mandarin right that would cost loads and he ain’t gonna go around getting individual issues. The trades r good recommendations though.
That's great and all, but you have to remember: it's a comic book, not a documentary.
He’s At Peak Human Condition
Lot of mentions for Killing Joke. I always thought it was way overrated. But each to their own.
I saw ego at a comic store and I thought it was LEGO Batman. I know I’m stupid
pretty sure Nguyen is pronounced "win"
And 'Babel' is pronounced 'Baybull'.
Dark knight returns and the long Halloween
Long Halloween best book in there.
I want to start reading Daredevil comics. Any recommendations?
Born Again,The Man Without Fear and Daredevil Yellow
Thanks
The Killing Joke is by far the bet Batman story and indeed the best one shot comic ever. It is vastly better than The Dark Knight Returns.
I would contend that it is NOT a 'Batman Story' but a 'Joker Story'
Can you do one of these for Justice League and Avengers comics?
Can you do this for X-men and Daredevil
Happy New Year dudes!
Batman the new 52 volume 2 is a great series for readers to start at
Ive seen every single animated movie/show and every live action movie/show that has anything to do with DC. But I haven't read any of the comics so thats what im here for
Advice for new readers: always buy trades instead of individual issues
Read synder and capullo series.(a must). Arkham Asylum (get a feel for how dark and how truly fucked up the villains are). Hush. Injustice. Killing joke. If you like these then batman is for you.
You should do this type of list for new daredevil readers
Daredevil is my fave, so I'd love to!
It's easier than Batman because DD has only ever had one ongoing series and his highlights are often great writers' celebrated runs on there.
Frank Miller run if you read it digitally
The Man Without Fear
Born Again
Bendis run
Brubaker run
Enjoy!
@@Jonny0W awesome man thank you
I was introduced to Batman from the Lego games.

*Boi.*
:)
Which comic is it at 5:05?
My first what culture non wrestling video. Awesome won't be the last
Well, I was thinking that this list will not include those that were really critically acclaimed like the Long Halloween and The Dark Knight Returns.
The thumbnail for this video is the cover to Batman NEW 52 volume 6 "Graveyard shift". That is definitely not for beginners.
Can we get a list of the 10 best Joker stories?
Ive read the Long Halloween and it its epic
My very first Batman book was Arkham Asylum
Court of owls was a great read
I actually don’t really like the dark knight returns. I hate it, actually.
it’s so over talked about. there are so many better stories like Batman: endgame or White Knight
the animated movie was way better IMO. its my favorite batman movie of all time
Do the same for Superman
Thanks. Has anyone ever taken a great story and redone old artwork?
Batman has many good graphic novels that are easy to pick up and read without a lot of back story and history. But I still recommend to read Golden Age Omnibus Vol 1 - just to get a sense for the genesis of the Batman. Must read material if you want to get into Batman.
I'm surprised that Hush isn't on the list. I definitely agree with all of them, although I'd put Hush on the list.
I just want 1 VIDEO WHERE THE COMICS ARE PUT IN ORDER FROM THE 1ST TO THE VERY LAST/LATEST not 1 from here, 1 from there, 1 from overthere, I fucking hate it
Green lantern should be next
