    It's cool if Lasha retires. He's done enough without the 500. Gor and Lalayan, I mean, they are so far behind in the C&J. Lalayan at least has the advantage of age as he is only 25 but Gor is already 30.

      Probably seen the best from both of them too, our very close anyway .Both exceptional lifters but just a bit too small at 5'10 or so to be able to clean those big weights, they are very fast though and that's usually the first thing to go, but they may still have time to get close to Lasha snatch, but like you said his C&J is way out of reach. They are a bit too small imo.

    I don't believe that him being in parliament is a real hindrance to his athletic ambitions.
    It's a gift for him by the government and he'll probably be sitting on his ass doing nothing. The only purpose for him being there is propaganda.
    It would be interesting how far modern enhancements could get him and I'm not just talking about steroids. I'm thinking about stem cell therapy and similar things, which according to at least some strength athletes seem to work quite well.

    Tommy Kono did win 8 WCs in a row (1952-59) when you consider that the Olympics were also considered World Championships in those years. John Davis sort of won 8 in a row if you realize that there were no WCs held from 1939-1945. He won all WCs held from 1938 to 1952 with Olys counting as WCs as with Konos.

    I think the Lasha era is over. Given his age, injuries and the decision to go the politics path are good evidence for that. I personally wish Varazdat Lalayan took his place in the upcoming tournaments as Varazdat deserves to be a world and olympic champion.

    • @JohnDoherty-dl2fz

      I agree. Lalayan has now inched ahead of Gor. He’s beaten him 4 of 6 X the last 3 years, has out totaled him 467-464, and is 5 years younger. Gor’s misfortune has been that he is only 1 year younger than the greatest super heavy of all time tho he did defeat Lasha at least once and maybe twice as juniors.

    i would not not abolish the pressout rule as such but i would abolish the jury. just have the judges see the lift in real time and decide not endless replays to come to the wrong decision. its not perfect solution but its eaisier to live with honest mistakes

    • @emcarpenter5206
      @emcarpenter5206 Месяц назад +3

      Abolish the jury for sure but I think they also need better judges. If you watch a lot of 80s competitions the judges were making much better calls on average. Personally I'm for just getting rid of pressout rule but if not then other improvements are urgently needed.

    • @DrLeroyArch
      @DrLeroyArch Месяц назад

      A double edged sword here. The jury also has the power to reverse bad referee decisions. Despite bad occurrences like this without a jury overseeing the referees there would be greater temptations for refs to give biased decisions. With a jury the refs have to also worry about their bad decisions being overturned. Having a jury also gives lifters an avenue of appeal. Most sports have some system of "jury" overview. Don't get rid of the jury based on one bad outcome. The cure may be worse than the disease.
      I do agree with you on press-outs. Lifters must "catch" the bar on snatches and jerks, not press it out. Presses and jerks are two different lifts, regardless of what their similar finishing positions and what they may think in Strongman events.

    I think fighting that decision is reasonable. I'm not sure if it does anything or if anything can be done about it, I like Nino and I'm fine with him winning that medal (I'm biased because I really wanted him to challenge Karlos and at least succeed in the games). But I also think justice should be strived for, even in a losing battle. It can potentially set a precedent or change things that aren't as good as they could be (refereeing decisions, federation's systems etc). I'm glad there's some party that is willing to follow through in what they believe is justice and right, even if the procedure is so difficult and expensive (potentially to prevent using that option).

    Absolutely agreed on Robu's decision to raise the question on the standard of judging in the 89kg wt class. If I may add, even Yenison Lopez had a very clear pressout in his final 210kg C&J attempt. Then Nino Pizzolato had the most glaring Pressouts of the competition. Robu must absolutely contest this outrageous decision and it is seriously unfair to have such preposterous standards of judging in the most important event of an athl;ete's life. Not to forget, Loradena Toma got called for a pressout for the slightest of elbow flicker and Nino gets away with a glaring pressout.

    So far, no weightlifter has won 4 Olympic gold medals. A few, like Dimas and Norb Schemansky (silver, gold, bronze, bronze), have won 4. Schemansky is particularly noteworthy because he was 40 years old when he won bronze in Tokyo in 1964. Just to win all those world titles the way Lasha has, the way Alekseyev and John Davis did, is remarkable, considering the toll that weightlifting takes on the body (back, shoulders, knees).

  • @EmorettaRobinson

    I had no idea that Lasha had gotten involved in politics. That's amazing and really good news. I'm hoping that he will compete again. I personally think he's already at goat status. However another Olympic would be nice to see if he chooses to go for it. Granted I know very little about him because I've only been following the sport since Nov/Dec of 2022. But finding this channel late at night when I couldn't sleep because I was dealing with the loss of a friend that I've had since '98 was one of the best things I've done in the last couple of years. I have a huge amount of respect for the athletes who compete. And I look forward to more competitions with Seb and Max commentating. As a newbie I find that those two are a wealth of information. Plus the people in the live chat have proven to be interesting and some are outright hilarious. And Dan has been very helpful in answering questions that anyone watching the live stream might have. So with those things in mind I'm looking forward to seeing what will happen during the upcoming competition. I also just noticed that Seb's beard is more reddish in color and the hair on his head is not. I always think it's interesting when men have the ability to grow hair that is two different colors naturally. I know that last part was completely unrelated though. So in conclusion I'm looking forward to the upcoming competition.

    I would love to see Lasha get a fourth Olympic gold and get 500 kgs. His health is an issue. In Japan they have sumo, those guys that weight 150 kgs or more have a life expectancy of 20 years less than the average. So Lasha needs to give it one more try and then lose weight. Politics for Lasha the only political candidate I want is Seb involved in the IWF and IOC.

      Yeah. It's like in bodybuilding. The mass monster trend that has been around for a while definitely hurts guys. The body doesn't know if it's 150kg of muscle or fat it just knows it has to work harder. Add in drug use and you don't have the same life span.

It was quite the talk for him to dominate like that and hold 80 world records and be 8x European Champion as well. Unfortunately, after a ridiculously easy 240 kilo clean, he injured himself and had to bag the jerk and ultimately withdraw from the competition.

Another Olympic gold? Looks very unlikely, Gor and Lalyan are really pushing lasha and they just keep getting better and better, I suspect once one of them breaks through 218 on the snatch the floodgates will open, that mental barrier will be gone. That’s not even considering that lashas performances have been slowly declining in the last couple of years. After he retires, Lasha can focus on powerlifting, specifically breaking the deadlift world record! I think that Lasha can deadlift 505kg with minimal training.

      Why, because he does clean and jerk? You're dreaming buddy.

      Because Lasha can c&j 270kg. Do you think any strongman like Hooper, Shaw, or Thor can do anything with 270kg other than deadlifting it? Can they even continental clean 240kg? Doubt it.

      @@theweekendmasterswarrior990 Yes, they can bench press it. Go home and train hard. You talk too much.

      Didn't Thor tear his pec trying to bench 252kg? Besides, bench press moves the weight less than 2 feet vs c&j moving the weight what, about 8 1/2 feet in Lasha's case? Point is, at 6-6, 400+lbs, and demi-god genetics, Lasha can deadlift 505kg if he really wants to. And I am too old to train hard, just maintenance now. 😆

    He needs a break. First he needs to get healthy. He should adopt a general fitness routine, along with a keto/carnivore diet to lose a boat load of fat. His obesity is limiting his true potential. His cardiovascular health is limiting his ability to train at the volume and capacity that could produce a 280 KG C&J and a 240KG snatch. He's fat. He's unhealthy and he's still a young man. His coaches and handlers are complicit in this. Wake up, do right.

      His coaches took him to 3 Olympic Golds, 7 World Championships and the heaviest lifts of all time. You sure you can do better? This is elite level sport. It's not healthy in the slightest, that's just the nature of it

      @@madworld109 I'm not judging their technical or programmatic coaching. I'm looking at the athlete across the spectrum of performance, wellness and health. Don't forget, he had a cardiovascular episode at 23. His coaches, like many seem focused on performance only. Somebody needs to look out for his wellness, his health. The Chinese model of overall fitness, wellness is a great example of balance. Weightlifting doesn't have to be unhealthy.
