Tell me about the first time you heard this song - when was it, what did you feel, etc.? For me, I was a kid when I first heard the ending of it in some movie on TV (searched for it for years after that). I remember being fascinated by how such a sweet melody could feel so sad. First time I heard it was when a friend played it in a park in high school and was immersed in it. Timeless, beautiful song, true poetry. 'X-Men: First Class' recently reinvigorated it. Jim Croce wrote it when he found out he was dying and that he wouldn't have time to spend with his son and he dedicated it to him. You've done wonderful interpretation here, and knowing the background of the song, your own imprint is immeasurably powerful, uplifting and heartbreaking at the same time! Thank you for your choice and brilliance, thank you, a hundred times over!

You have my range. It's sad how little women with our range get supported in most singing scenarios. Growing up, in choirs, I was always force to sing parts too high for comfort, and never coached on how to use my voice to its best advantage. I was passed over for solos. Tenor was my most comfortable range, but I was always told I had to sing alto, because "women don't sing tenor."
I never had the chance to take voice lessons, but over the years I've learned to get more comfortable and strong in my upper registers, but I've always wished that the singing world would better embrace a voice like mine, and recognize it as warm, strong, beautiful, and yes, feminine.
At this point, properly warmed up, I can sing every note of every part of Handel's Messiah, in its proper octave, except the lowest bass note, which I can only hit if I have a cold! But tenor is still my most natural habitat.

Embrace the contralto voice type. I am a male bass (a particularly low bass, at that), and always hated my voice... since everyone expects you to sing like a tenor, with pop music creating that want for high belted notes from even men.

Heard you get down to an A2, which is phenomenal for a contralto. I'm a bass and I sing an A2 for the resolution of the A chord, since A1 sounds too low (even though I can hit it). Your voice would be incredible to have in a choir to bridge between a baritone and a soprano... no need for a male tenor in this situation.

Hold up i can sing like this too, am i a dramatic contralto?? I figured I was contralto but I thought dramatic had to go deeper, plus I usually sing tenor parts that climax a lot higher in range, and that's usually where my voice blooms the most.

Thank you! Usually contralto range starts around F below "middle C" although some of us can go lower than that, especially dramatic contraltos. Also dramatic contralto voices are louder and darker and sad songs always benefit from our timbre☺️ I plan to share my exercises for increasing your vocal range (without losing overtones) on this channel. The only dramatic contralto I've ever heard is Gwendolyn Brown. This Little Light of Mine is the song to look for. Dramatic contralto is powerful enough to fill the music hall and is completely androgenic. Tracy Chapman, Cher or Anastasia Prikhodko are the lyric ones.
HappyPepi, my 4 octave vocal range can create an auditory illusion of me sounding like a soprano, but when it comes to real contralto voices you got to check the chest register and the notes. What is the highest and lowest note a voice can hit. Go check my "God's gonna cut you down" cover, and check the note😉 oh, btw, contralto voices do not have to sound "androgenic", it is a very common misconception.
