I was born and raised in New Iberia. Thank you for showing how much has changed. Married a sailor stationed at New Iberia Naval Air Station in 1963. Now live in Orlando, Florida
Ten seconds in, I hear the music and see the car...LIKE! My next road trip will be to New Iberia ! You have a very nice voice, btw. You should be singing in a Jazz band.
The city removed all the parking meters decades ago and made a parking lot downtown to make the area friendly to shoppers. Victor's Cafe closed last week after being in business for many decades. They had the best crawfish pies and other authentic local dishes that could only be found in the kitchens of some of NOLAs best restraunts. Duffy's is the local diner that I always visit.
We just had our Cajun country Paracon at the Theatre and Museum. Victors Cafe is 100 years old and the best breakfast I have ever had. We spent 3 days there filming in 8 locations. Also check out Crowley Louisiana not far from there. Some really cool old buildings.
The Essanee is pronounced “S an E”, which was a movie theater, but has been converted to live performances, hence Broadway on the Bayou. The summer I painted the mural in the Steamboat pavilion, the skateboard practice area in the park was closed for repairs. The city lifted the ban on skateboarding in the pavilion, so I included the kids skateboarding on the side of the Essanee in the mural. They were terrific and gave me all kinds of encouragement. I should also say that the local Girl Scouts arranged for the mural and offered tons of ideas as the mural evolved. The Berry is a colorful city with energetic, happy, creative people, most of which are living life to the fullest.
@@JettRink5131947 oh thanks for the clarification, and thank you for all that cool info! Love your handle name, by the way.. I'm a huge James Dean fan 😎 Thanks for watching!

Hey thanks Chris! Much appreciated brother 😎
Essanee used to be the local movie theatre back in the 80s I used to watch movies there as a child. In my 50s now.
It definitely caught my eye, so maybe I could do a vlog on it one day!

I like that the plaques are all in 3 languages, English, French and Spanish, very fitting given the history of Louisiana.

I saw that Victor's closed, that's unfortunate 😔. I love Duffy's, great Americana menu and atmosphere!

The closed, gated alley on the left of Napolean's bar leads to an open courtyard, then the bar owner's home that's located behind the bar.
That's my town ♥️
@@NicoleAndras I like the downtown area.. it's very vintage!
Iberia means Spain, as in Iberian peninsula where Spain and Portugal are.
@@jamesr1703 very interesting, thanks for that!
victor's cafateria was the hang out of dave robicheaux in the dave robicheaux detective stories
That's awesome! Thanks for that info!
Dave bought me here! Love the video Matt🙏
@mickyt67 that's awesome, thanks for that cool piece of info. How was he as a person?

Don’t worry skateboarders have never listened to that sign. Some crazy tricks have gone down there over the years.
😂 that's great to know! Thanks for watching!
The only history in New Iberia is you with how much crime there is. Hardly anyone I grew up with in the berry still lives there
I know St Peter's Catholic Church have been to Mass many times there over the years.
I need to go experience a Mass there
