I was very privileged to have gotten to speak with him on more than one occasion at the Salt Lake City library. What an extraordinary human being. Just knowing him changed the way I look at life and the way that I address others.
He was absolutely amazing to watch read and he held everything in his head.
I'm glad some of my children got to meet him as well.
And his father was unbelievable he was so patient and so kind.

I'm kinda torn on this, because normally i would say that no parent should ever have their kids die before themselves. But in this case, it might have been for the best. But then again, it must have been painful beyond BELIEF to lose his son. His dad dedicated his ENTIRE life to take care of his son. It doesn't get much more selfless than that.

@@andrewcomments5812 I lost my youngest son 6 years ago a week after his 26th birthday . Losing your child is the most unimaginable never ending heart wrenching hell and agony . Before watching this I certainly would have never wished this on any parent but the whole time I was watching this all I kept thinking was "What is going to happen to him when his Father dies" , I was literally terrified for him , when the thought came to me that the best possible thing would be for him to pass before his Father , at the very same time I was completely overwhelmed with guilt and felt horrible , how could I possibly want and hope such a thing as this for another parent , how could I have felt relief and "glad" about such a thing , but in this case it really is the best way for it to happen , for both of them . The world lost 2 truly wonderful special people .

People who aren’t Nuro typical will sometimes parrot others. Maybe in the past his father or someone he met along the way made that comment. Just because he said the metaphor doesn’t mean he necessarily understand it. If a metaphor was said out of context or not explained he would most likely not understand the meaning of it. However he understands the importance of his father and in the past the metaphor was probably explained to him. He understands that metaphor because he was told what it symbolized between him and his father.

I think there’s something that goes on in their brain when they deliver a child with disabilities. The fathers are able to maintain their sanity, but the women all go at least a little hysterical. This is anecdotal, of course, obtained by observing my patients’ family structures (or lack there of) but it would be interesting if there was an actual study. The problem is that people with behavioral disorders are often undiagnosed because it seems like they have no introspection.

As a social worker by trade, every day I work one-on-one with marginalized populations of human beings - drug addicts, homeless, special needs, etc. It never ceases to amaze me how beneath these surface characteristics that most people focus on and use to pigeonhole these individuals into a certain category lies the most brilliant gifts and talents that too often remain unnurtured and unnoticed. This could have very easily been the case with Kim Peek. Very early on in his life, as this documentary illustrates, there were people - even professionals like the golfing neurologist - who were ready to give up on Kim and lock him away somewhere like he was a secret to be ashamed of. Had it not been for the undying love of his father, this would have most likely been the case. Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed or lucky enough to be born to such patient and compassionate parents. While this story is very touching, my hope is that it also serves as a reminder to us all. There are far too many people in our society that we have a tendency to forget About as if they have nothing of value to offer the world. And the only way that will change is if we all change.

I met Kim Peek when I was younger. He was amazing and sweet person. Books are the root to knowledge and understanding and Kim devoured them like candy. He had a book when I met him and we talked about it in detail. I loved it. Also, that's how I learn too. Reading and writing is my favorite thing ever. My savant is a little different. I am very good at math and programming as well remembering. I can understand new words without a concept because I can relate them to others. I am obsessed with science and engineering too. I also was diagnosed with savant syndrome in my teenage years by two neurologist's and a neuroscientist. There was science tests done in the 90's and they gathered people who were diagnosed and we all took tests to help gather information to help learn what it is. We have unique brains, some people have injury to their brains causing the savant syndrome but some are born. I am like Kim I was born with a unique brain causing unique brain activity. I have an unknown neurological condition. I myself was told I was retarded too but that changed when science changed. My mom was my assistant. She taught me how to do things but I still need assistance and I am 41. I am a female with an IQ score of 200 and above. I am mentally blind in my right eye but I can see. I have speech processing disabilities but I can hear. My brain is incapable of processing speech. I have movement difficulties and sensory overload disabilities as well. Seizures are the worst part. Having a handicap doesn't make me different my brain makes me different. We all are unique characteristics living inside billion's of living cells working together to build our bodies. I use to stay up all night talking to my mom about science and everything I read. I am not a retard, I am above average genius. It's not common so it seems to everyone else I am odd and different. Most people are understanding. I haven't had a mean person attack me for being different. It was my family who abused me and my mom saved me from my father's family. They got help and now they are helping me to live on my own with assistance from the government and county. I had to choose who adopted me after my mom passed away from cancer too. My adopted mom is Lisa. I live in my own apartment with my cat Ginger Beans too. I moved in on July 17th 2010 at 3:00 pm. There were 50 people who came to help me move in because I have lots of friends who were very excited for me. My community is my family. Also, when you are above average genius you can create character's in your imagination and have conversations with yourself. I am very good at writing because I can imagine everything in detail and use words in complex construction. I draw like a professional without learning as well. I can draw a photo as it is from the camera. People are my muse you guys teach me how to be human. Without you guys I would be lost. RUclips is my favorite place too because I get to save everything and rewatch my favorite videos and comment. I don't comment back. It's uncomfortable for me to say something back. I listen so I can relate and have something to say back but I don't like commenting back so I don't. It's respectful and helpful for both me and others when I listen. I can help others who don't have a voice.

It seems to me that these body's act in a way as to limit our natural unlimitedness and when these body's are slightly off or not right.... some of our genius abilities and unexplained beauty of our souls come through.
Maybe I've not worded it right but I think some people will get me!
