Best rock album I ever bought. Several years ago I wrote a letter to Henry just to tell him how much I owed him for the memories of tooling through the midwest in my TR6 with the top down and "Traveling Time" playing on my cassette. He wrote back and said it meant a lot to him that I took the time to find his address just to thank him. Great guy and what a guitarist.
I refer to this as the GREATEST unknown rock album ever! Every song is amazing. Great guitar playing!
This is an awesome under-appreciated album. There isn't a bad song on this album. This is an anomaly. If you've ever heard other Henry Gross albums, you won't be expecting this. I still have the original album bought in '75. I used to cruise to the 8 track. I've now got the CD and loaded it onto a USB to play in my truck, so I could still crank it up.
Definitely one of those under rated albums.
If anyone else wants the CD it is apparently available on Henry Gross's website.
We had a d.j. on our first fm station in B'ham , AL who loved this album, I had the 8 track and used to ride around in my old 61 Ford Falcon with this blaring.
I got to agree with you. I had never heard of him before, but in the summer of 75, I saw the album cover and thought, that's gotta have something good on it. Went out to my 66 dodge polara, stuffed it in my 8 track and although the tape got "ate" years ago, I found him again on RUclips a few years back and still think he was a very under rated musician who never got air play in Canada.
I bought this album( cassette) when it came out. Entire album is outstanding!
Henry Gross was the youngest musician on stage at WOODSTOCK. He was the lead guitarist for SHA NA NA!
I saw Henry gross once that means one song. We drove to the Quad Cities in my friends van that broke down and our friends in the car behind us just waved and honked instead of stopping and helping. I ran down to a farmer's field and got a bucket of water and a rag to fix the radiator. We made it to the concert Henry gross open for Marshall Tucker and we heard Henry grosses last tune that was on the radio during that time. Crazy times! Marshall Tucker was fantastic.
🥰🥰🥰 First time I listened to it I was mesmerized; 40 years later it is the same feeling! Something magical about this album...🥰🥰🥰
Great guitar....and vocals....been a long time fan...just 1 more tomorrow...
One of my faves. I still have the album and it’s still in great condition.
Definitely an album that should be better known than it is.
#metoo. This is one of my all time favorites. I used to crank it up in the 70's and still do!
Just found this is my late husbands stash! In good condition as well. He was 13 years older than me and I never heard of Henry until now. I like it.❤️A lot!
Absolutely Timeless....listened to this back in the 70's. I've looked for this album time and time again and now here it is. Thank you for posting!!
You're very welcome. Glad you found it here.
It is still available on Henry Gross' website: thehenrygross.com/
Loved it in high school and still do!!!!
Haven’t heard this one on years. I was in my 20’s when it first came out. Good Rock n Roll!
Henry, youngest performer at Woodstock.
When he was with Sha Na Na....
I had almost forgotten about this album! Thank god I found it again! Loved it then and am loving it again! Henry Gross slams it down! Yeah!
Glad you liked it. I'm surprised this album isn't very common on RUclips.
Timeless. I bought this, vinyl of course, inn1975 when I was 25 and play this frequently today; under appreciated artist.
Henry Gross should definitely be better known than he is. He's still active though. Check out his website - thehenrygross.com/
I bought it in 75 I was 13 great musician
I was 16 when I bought this album in 1975. I still have it, loved it then and still do! : )
Still sells, people who loved this LP still want to listen!
Put me down as one of those who loved it ! Absolutely!
Marilyn are you related to Henry?
Any relation? No matter. This is an amazing album, start to finish!
Henry Gross is a marvelous talent. Shannon is one of the greatest songs ever but this album is amazing especially One More Tomorrow and All My Love.
And, Dixie Spider-Man!👍👍👍👍and Southern Band and Traveling Time........🤪THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS ALBUM
You're very welcome. Glad you liked it.
Just bought it in the used vinyl section for 3 bucks. Just listen to it for the first time not knowing what to expect. Wow. Great album
Glad you discovered it and found a good vinyl copy, Those are hard to find these days. If you find any other Henry Gross vinyl, grab it.
Great album not a bad song. Saw him open for the Doobie Brothers in 1975 and he blew them away. Have talked to him on the phone a few times and he’s a great guy. He sent me a autographed copy of this album. Keep on Huffing and Puffing Henry.
I sent him a suggestion recently via his Facebook page about re-releasing this album. Judging by the number of views and the comments there is definitely interest out there.
71 years old, remember when I saw the cover I bought it.
I bought it when it first came out after hearing the first track.
I used to listen to this album while driving from Salisbury NC to Norfolk VA while I was stationed there. Have always loved this album.
It is awesome!!
Glad you liked it.
Dude one of the greatest rock n roll albums of all time thank u bro
You're very welcome. Glad you like it.
I've always loved this album one l never forget. 1975 I saw Henry at Layfayette's music room in Memphis.
thanks Mark, one of my favorites from the mid 70s
You're very welcome. Glad you liked it.
I was looking through my old vinyl and must have really liked this album as I have 2! lol Cool!
Keep them. The vinyl of this album is hard to come by now.
Saw him in mid 70s in Jacksonville FL between Mahogany Rush and Aerosmith.
Cool, enjoy Mahogany Rush!
I just turned 62.
Fuck yeah. Good memories.
SOUTHERN BAND! Fuck yeah man.
Glad to help rekindle those 70's memories. LOL!
awesome
I've owned this album since 1976, and I still enjoy it today every bit as much as I did back then. Sure, I've slowed down a bit, but thanks to Henry, I can still make some pretty good moves, in my mind anyways😅
Wow ! Only one takes me back! I always thought it was one of the best songs that I personally had ever heard! You can feel emotion in every last note! So good! So well done! Love the piano!
Go to album at parties back in high school and still kicks it
still have this album love Evergreen
Great album I was 13 rode my bicycle to the record shop to buy this
This rock gem is our jam !!
😻💋🌟😻💋🎸
This song was a regular! Loved it then, still love it today!
Glad you liked it, then and now. This is one of those very good albums that isn't well known and didn't get the recognition it deserved/deserves.
What of my favorite records I bought in the 70's. I still have it! I have also always loved the cover photo.
One of those overlooked albums that should be far better known than it is.
It's CRIMINAL this guy only had 1 hit, I always considered this album in particular one of the better albums in general to come out of the early to mid 70's.
Very true. The music business can be unfair.
I feel the same way! Why?
Thanks I’ll show him your post.
I'll take a step further, this is a top 10 album of all time, tied by many, so far ahead of its time. henry always hoped for the one big hit, while i liked shannon, there are so many songs better. all about timing
Very much so ! I swear i could never figure it out!
I cant see this album not selling honestly! I have always felt it should have been in everyones collection! Glad it was in mine i know that!
One of my favorite albums..Rest in peace to my friend,Jeff...He turned me on to this!
Looked forever for this forever whole album. Every song kills.
Glad you liked it. I'm surprised nobody posted it to RUclips before I did.
25 years ago I asked several record stores to put the CD on order. They all were told it was unavailable. I'm glad to get it here.
@@steverobinson364 glad you liked it. I'm thinking of contacting Henry Gross to find out who owns the copyrights to the album and why it isn't available for purchase.
There are definitely enough people watching and liking this video to indicate there would be buyers out there.
@@steverobinson364 I left a message on Henry Gross' Facebook page asking about who owns the copyrights to this album and whether Henry would be interested in re-releasing it on his own. Haven't heard back yet though.
@@marksmusiccollection8373 discogs mark . Its private owners just selling their copies but if you just want a copy for yourself a good place to find anything really!

Agreed! You cannot find this on streaming platforms, and that’s a shame. I got to see Mr.Gross tour this album way back when in Houston. “Southern Band” should be a rock classic staple. Thanks!
You're very welcome. It is still available from Henry Gross through his website.
Love it!
Got this album listened a lot to it 1975 great year
You can purchase this album and his 1974 album on CD as a set (back to back) on Henry Gross's website for $25 total. I did, so glad I was able to find it. Signed copies are about $10 more. Enjoy!
Good to know. I was not aware of that. I'll amend the write up on this one.
@@marksmusiccollection8373 It's been a few years since I did that. You might check his website to see if those are still available like that. He also sells his third and fourth album as a double CD. I bought both sets (4 albums on 2 CDs). Thanks for posting the full album. Kick butt album.
R.K. thanks for spreading that info so everyone can own these.
@@johnnythrogmorton7700 You're welcome. And the money goes in Henry's pocket too. Always best to support the artist.
"Plug me into sumthin" is still used amongst my friends.
Still have the 8 - track...and still plays good..
Does your 8 track player still work? I haven't seen one of those for years....
@@marksmusiccollection8373 oh yeah..you can get part's for it..
No way really! Thats amazing! Do you keep a match book handy in case it gets out of adjustment a little? Lol a matchbook was never far away from any of my 8 tracks!
I had it on 8track as well but its long since succumbed to hot sun in the backseat of my 73 cougar!
@@StonemanRocks i have a Tenna mini - 8. It has fine tuning thumb wheel that was one of the selling point of this player..i had friends that kept match books for their player..i keep them in good working condition..i have a few..lol..
Can’t find my copy, not in the digital collection. Awesome, thanks for putting this out there
You're very welcome. Glad you liked it.
Someone posted that Henry Gross is selling CDs of this album on his website if you're interested in checking it out.
Been listening to this album since it came out
Thanks for this, man, appreciate it - it's nice to find old friends on RUclips.
I bought this in '75, based on the cover art, and was happily surprised just how good it was. Still have 2 vinyl copies (1 for only playing when drunk - hasn't been used in a while). Actually, neither have been used in a while, 'cause my turntable isn't hooked up. 1 of 2 that I've taken from vinyl to cassette to CD/digital; the other was John Denver & the Muppets: Christmas together.
I used to own this on vinyl, wish I had it back. Great album from a former Sha Na Na member!
Not many people know that Henry Gross was once in Sha Na Na.
I didnt! Thx for that!
My only regret was i never got to see him live! I would have been the one standing down front right in front of the speaker stack! Dixie spiderman kicks ass! Cmon dixie!
He lives in tenn. He stills plays live.
Thank you Mark for posting this and the first Henry Gross album. It's been a long time since I heard them; and I have always loved this album title, just classic. As with another commenter below, I hope that second LP shows up someday in your collection. His first three are still not on Spotify!
You're very welcome. Glad you liked those two.
I know I had a a copy of the second Henry Gross album at one time but I can't seem to find it. I'll keep looking and I'll post it when I find it.
Did you try discogs?
Until today I had never heard another Henry Gross song other than “Shannon”. And there was nothing about that song that made me want to investigate further.
A long time ago I had a book called “The Album Cover Album” dedicated to album art and this cover was in it. It did raise my eyebrow ‘cause there’s nothing about the cover of this album that says “Shannon” to me. I no longer have the book but I discovered a friend at work had it. I looked through it and reacquainted myself with albums whose covers had intrigued me with what the music might sound like. Since Spotify and RUclips are available to catch up on such things, I looked this one up.
Every once in a while you come across an old album that makes you wish you had discovered it when it came out (and, in fact, want to kick yourself for not finding it) and this is definitely one!
Glad you liked it.
And I still come across albums I wish I had known about years ago.
I've had others commenting about seeing album covers in books and then finding the albums on this channel to actually listen to. Check your book for some of the album covers by Charlie. I've posted several Charlie albums on the channel.
The radio DJ's used to not play southern band because it wasn't a top 40.
@@bobbysadler5438 very true. This album never did get much airplay back then and not many people knew about it. I discovered it because I worked in a stereo shop back then and we got a demo copy, which I played often and it sold a lot of copies of this album to people who heard the demo.
@@marksmusiccollection8373 I don't remember if the book had any Charlie covers in it or not. I didn't need any reminder for Charlie... I had three or four of them from back in the day. When I found Spotify had Charlie's music I went through all they had.
@@t.j.allred4795 I have a few books of album covers and each of them has at least one of the 1970's Charlie albums.
Rise and shine You must know . One step over on youself is can be Living life Just want to share Redefine as I can do You must know
Bought the album in 1980 in Orlando at used record store, loved it then and now
Used copies are about the only way of getting this album at the present time. Too bad.
Very good album and people are obviously interested in it judging by the number of views on this video.
great album
Definitely deserved, and deserves, more commercial success than it received. So far this the most viewed video on the channel so there seems to be an audience for it out there.
Saw him in 1975 in Albuquerque. What a surprise and great opening act for ZZ Top. Still have the album.
I wish I'd seen him performing back then.
But Henry Gross is still active so perhaps we'll see him performing in future.
Where did you see him was it at the civic auditorium by chance?
This album has been one of my favorites since I found it in around 76. Can’t find it on cd. My vinyl copy is about wore out. Love it!!
I think the CD is available on Henry Gross' website.
High school memories….awesome rock!
I bought this album in 75 & haven't played it since the 70's
Keep your copy safe. This is a hard album to find these days.
I agree.. Henry's best album. I just wish Henry would release a live album. It's long over due. He must have some archive concert tapes. Rock on!
Watched him open for Nazareth and walked out after him, not even seeing Nazareth ( already saw them with Deep Purple)
This was one of my favourite albums. Can’t seem to find it anywhere now.
Try Henry Gross' website: thehenrygross.com/shop-online/
... Thank you ...
You're very welcome. Glad you liked it.
Love this album and I tried to Shazam the lyrics and stumped Shazam 😂
At 72 I don't think Henry tours any longer. I never knew Henry was born in Brooklyn NYC. I'd swear he was born somewhere in the south.. keep rocking and plug me into something
Listened to these guys since they released this album kick ass in every way
Makes two of us! People really missed this one, freakin upbeat rockin LP! Love the backup vocals and H. Gross’ lead vocals. Don’t know why he never hit it really big ‘cept for a couple of tunes.
Like you, I never understood why Henry Gross didn't have more commercial success than he did. Such are the ways of the music business I guess.
@Chris Perkins he definitely does some country influenced material but he has also released some rockers over the years.
I remember some guitarist talkIng about.this album in vh1 and this guy rocks
Henry Gross is still active. Check out his website and his Facebook page.
@@marksmusiccollection8373 I been looking up his albums dudes so underrated
I saw him at Memorial Hall, Kansas City, KS opening for the Doobie Brothers back in the 70's. He played the best guitar solo I'd ever heard.
Had this album when I was in college..we wore it out !
Truly a fantastic album. Why can’t I find it on anywhere but RUclips?
Try Henry Gross' website: thehenrygross.com/shop-online/
my brother turned me on to to this album, right when it was released
We saw the live show in Columbus Georgia , opened for Joe CockerThey ruled the show
Driver's Engine is great!

Really love One More Tomorrow, with Carl Wilson and AL Jardine on vocals!

Great album
Greatest falsetto- rock - southern rock album in history ?
Got all his albums since he left Sha na na
I've got most of them and I'm trying to find used copies of the ones I don't have.
Make sure to turn up the volume for the guitar solo in Come On Dixie!
A killer album. A friend of mine purchased back in 1975 on vinyl, when I was 20. Always wanted thatalbum and finally bought it (CD) on the websiteb of Henry Gross for 25 Euros. There´s another Henry Gross Album on this cd that doesn´t suits me too well, but anyway a good bargain in terms of rock and roll history
Thanks for this. Now how 'bout the 1974 HENRY GROSS album? :)
I'll look into that one.

Idiotic to compare the competition LSU faces vs. the competition JSU faces.
BTW, Florida State won that game.
