One of the best groups of the late 60s/early 70s that never received the attention and acclaim that they deserved. Unfortunately, they never quite matched the quality of that first album and they suffered from all the internecine fighting and bickering etc, that afflicts so many bands. Also, I don't understand why they ever went from that memorable 1st album w. that wholesome looking and unique front cover design by George Hunter and painted by Kent Hollister and their less unique but still classy (2nd album "Marrying Maiden") cover, to that ridiculously goofy and garish third album cover with the stoned camel cartoon on the front cover. My initial impression was that perhaps this was a new group or some mistake had been made. It was very confusing. Additionally, their "Live" album at Carnegie Hall was one of the worst recorded Rock album I'd ever heard in all my 50+ years of listening to music . So I think It's A Beautiful Day will forever be linked to their debut album and no others. I will state that David's solo album was quite good as was the vocals on it. But it's the group's first album that I'll continue to listen to. David LaFlamme was an immense talent and he will be missed.

Night of Sunday 1 January '23 (Happy New Year to everybody who sees this in January).-----I'm amazed that this year marks a half of a century after the release of this album and I just played this video for my first time and as early as Friday the 6th I'll post it to my timeline.-----The last song sounds Christian.

Their final record, without founder David LaFlamme. This lineup, Patty Santos, Fred Webb, Bud Cockrell, Greg Bloch, Billy Gregory, and Val Fuentes, broke up soon after
The main reason they broke up is because Mr. Bloch couldn't stay straight enough to even play a complete set! Showing up and trying to please an entire concert became impossible for them without a violin! So sorry and so sad.
This album reminds me of this joke: "This is the axe George Washington cut down the cherry tree with. Of course, the handle broke, and we had to replace it, and then the head shattered, so we had to replace that, but, apart from those repairs, it's the same axe." With Patty Santos in the band, there's a little more continuity than that, but without David LaFlamme, and without the spaciousness of the famous first album, this is not something anybody would identify as "It's A Beautiful Day" in a "blindfold test." That said, it's tasty musically, even though it seems to suffer from a lot of the same lack of serious content that ails a lot of 70's rock--all dressed up with nowhere to go. Thanks for helping me catch up with what happened to IABD after I vanished into the electricityless woods in the early 70's.
@@ricklochead1032 This replay is my second time hearing your amazing song. I'm intrigued by the minor-key sound of the music, the dissonances throughout the piece, and the familiar first lyric line that I'm wracking my brain to remember it's origin. Thank you for this music. My first IABD experience was from your eponymic first album. "Marrying Maiden" was my next exposure, both of them shortly after first release. This entire album is certainly good enough for me to add it to my "Exceptional Albums" playlist. It has made this another "Beautiful Day"! My best to all, Brew
Fabulous! I remembered lots of lyrics from this album, especially from Mississippi Delta, but not the title. After searching for it a few times over the years without any luck, the passing of David LaFlamme (who isn't on this album) prompted another try - and finally success! Thanks much!
I have a couple of their albums, but not this one. Saw them once in Iowa City. Awesome band.

Excellent!! So many great songs in this LP. Thank you, Mark.
You're very welcome.
Not great, but certainly not bad i guess, has a funky feel to it.😊 lol
Wasn't the same without David.

Yes it did. Too bad the band didn't have more commercial success than it did.
The main reason they broke up is because Mr. Bloch couldn't stay straight enough to even play a complete set! Showing up and trying to please an entire concert became impossible for them without a violin! So sorry and so sad.
@@ricklochead1032 Unfortunately the case with many good bands. As you say, very sad.
@@marksmusiccollection8373 yes, what a shame and what a waste!
They were really starting to jell. They had talked about an album after Today but it just never materialized!
Been a long time since I listened to this LP. Some great moments, licks and solid song writing for sure. Enjoyed it.
Glad you liked this one.

I haven't been able to find this and only have a very well-worn LP.
Thank you very much for this clean copy of my favorite IABD album!
You're very welcome. Glad you found it here.

@@ricklochead1032 , wow! A great song! What you tell me took a long time, now, to know.😏

I have this on both album and cd. And all the others too.
Keep them in a safe place. This album is hard to find these days.
