Explanation if people are wondering why this is hard:
It's about moments of torque, one of the components for calculating how much 'force' there is around a point of anchorage is radius. As the radius increases (the arms being extended, his body being the anchor), the force felt increases proportionally. This is called a force multiplier, and it makes the weight feel much 'heavier' than it actually is. This is because you need more and more force to counteract the multiplied forced to prevent it from accelerating downward.
You can observe this by holding a weight close to your body, and then slowly extending your arms (make sure you're properly grounded so you don't fall forward jf you're using substantial weight). The control is the radius, and you'll find that it gets harder to hold up the weight the further out you go.
So it's not that it's terribly heavy, it's that it's positioned in a way that puts as much strain as possible on your body, and they're tasked with maintaining this incredibly taxing position for as long as possible.
I wouldn't be able to do for a micro second even half way extended, i have weak noodle arms and no core, so mad respect to these beasts.

It's actually amazing how much technique goes into 'holding a hammer'. Like starting a little high and tilting the head toward oneself - everything to get that bit of angular advantage.

I train with 20kg dumbbells and 30kg isnt that far off , so i was completely ignorant and tried doing the same thing with the 20kg dumbbell and couldnt hold it for more than 2 seconds lmao! These guys arent men, they are beasts
And you also gotta take into consideration that the hammer sticks up. It would probably be easier if they held it upside down

I own a 65 lb. weight so I figured I'd give it a shot, didn't look too crazy hard.
Lasted about 0.2 seconds.
Lifting 65 lbs. above your head is one thing, holding it in front of you is another.
Exercise seemed fun though, I might try again with the 40 and work my way up.

If it was just holding it 30 kg is not hard but keeping it at that uncomfortable position seems painful. Especially since the majority of the weight is on top you have to stop it from tilting

Strongman is known for putting the human body in painful situations, but this is one my favorite ones because of how incredibly difficult it truly is. I hurt my shoulder back in 2006 while in the military, and I swear as I'm watching this show, my shoulder has begun to ache... I'm not sure if I'm subconsciously tightening my muscles while watching, but I just went and took some advil because of the pain! It's so weird!

I work out for about 10 years and I was able to do 120 seconds !! The only problem is that it was with 20 lbs (9 kg) dumbbell 😅

Once, in my work place, my supervisors asked me to bring a sac of coins with the same weight of this thing on the video, from the 1° to the 3° floor. No elevator, just stairs and my hands, my legs and my shoulders... that was painfull as hell for a normal guy like me. I did not get lesioned or something, but still. I can't even imagine doing what these guys are doing.
