Never thought I'd see anything like this in my lifetime
You ain't seen nothing yet
@@DrLove911 wait for the falling numbers in the usa

@@vesna2999 nah you've not been thru anything at all
get ready as this kind of restrictions are coming to your country too. we will talk again in a couple of weeks
Why is this so scarily beautiful?
circumstances aside, that right there is still the most meaningful place on earth, l'Urbe Eterna
RIGHT?
It is "so scarily beautiful" because it is so tragic yet inevitable
Yup ... In same time ...
Just stay safe bro , idk you but i feel ... This my chance to share with other people.
Italia has a hard time not being beautiful.
Even empty and silent, Rome is a beautiful city.
especially :)
there's still a special atmosphere to this city, regardless...
I don't know if we got the same anyway Roma has it. Despite I'm Italian I went there only 3 times but I can't forget the kind of pulsating, glowing and often chaotic energy "she" has. Can't forget it, something that never ends, I felt in love. Truly the Eternal City
Roma, Italia, my heart cries for you. Oh beauty of the world I love you!
❤
Thank you♥️🇮🇹🌹
imagine how confused the birds are
I was just thinking that.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
are pigeons starving because of this?
@@jasondaveries9716 there aren't many pigeons in rome. most of them got eaten by the seagulls by this point
Where did all waitresses go the birds are thinking
I was in Rome last summer and it was sooooo crowded. Now it looks like a ghost town 😢
Did you like everything there? Except for the crowd 😂
@@tavolaluija Rome is really beautiful no doubt about it but the crowds made it less enjoyable tbh. 😅

much better with romans, than with tourists

This video feels so surreal. I can’t even imagine this being real.
Unfortunately it is... I see it every day now
chiccachannel yeah same, since the borders between America and Mexico are closed, the roads have become almost barren. It doesn’t feel right.
hahah, and it's just a beginning bro.
Clever reference to Roma: Citta Aperta. Lovely.
70-something years later, yes well done.
Yes you clever ;)
The two discarded plastic gloves on the street, being gently blown by the wind, look very post-apocalyptic.
the whole film looks post-apocalyptic
Rome, the "Eternal City", the "Queen of Waters", will endure. We will endure.
Silly comment.
@@TheFirstGroover I agree your comment is silly but I like how it describes itself.
Hey I saw a box of twinkies, theres nothing to fear
I was there this time last year. Amazing city.
The world will never be the same after all this.
Let's hope not. Endangered spies might have a chance. Human vanity may lessen

When you see empty streets is actually good sign nowadays. If your streets are still busy you’re not ready.
Rome sounds reduced to birds and ambulances
In a while you will heard the revolution sound od the people. We are dying because nobody help and families don't have money for buy food.
now Rome is like: I wasn't so calm since the fall of the empire
nice xD

It is not the time for joke. We need everyone support.
@@subhashishbagchi3191 Humour is good for your mental health and especially in times like this. Learn to take a joke! And moreover, what he is saying is actually true. Animals and birds are finally feeling free. They have always been at the mercy of humans, feeling scared and suffocated by the presence of large number of humans around.
We don't have squirrels in Rome :(
I was on Rome 3 months ago and it was so overcrowded that I was so stressed it's weird to see how it is now.

Viva l’Italia!🇮🇹💔Forza...coraggio!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
Questa città mi ha rubato il cuore. Ti amo Roma♥️🇮🇹♥️
I got the most chilling feeling when I realised how much humanity has yearned for this much people telling each other, "everything will be okay." Whether or not it's true, for the time being, it's reassuring. And really right now all we can do is believe it will be.
I have never wished more to be a journalist and be allowed to walk around Rome to enjoy the beauty of my city and its monuments, it’d be so worth it
My beautiful Rome 😢 this is unreal 💔
3:04 Very italian arguing in the background. Jokes aside, stay calm, you will get through this mess and you will be stronger than ever !!! God bless you guys !
Oh, and this video shouldn't be viewed as something tragic or apocalyptic. Quarantine is a very good measure to implement and it will yield good results in a short while. Wait and see.
And I thought that was only true of Italian-Americans.
@@angelinaaurelia1668 these are South Italians, and Italian Americans too. Then yeah it's kinda true for Italian Americans (South Italians)
A lot of the scenes look like an Edward Hopper painting.
Rome you're Always beautiful and caput mundi!❤️💪🏼 Even empty
Future generations will see this and wonder how we lived today just like how we wonder how people lived during the Great Depression.
come on, we are too comfy, imagine what were going people thru the epidemics in medieval times..
I was living and studying there a month ago- really makes me miss it
Did you like your staying there?
Roma Italia my heart cries for you...😪 Stay strong stay safe.❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
Bravo! Beautiful film telling a story of resilience amid isolation and uncertainty. It is a film of hope. Tutto andra bene, indeed, if we all can remember to stay safe, stay calm, and stay loving in these challenging circumstances. There will be hard times, but among these, shining acts of compassion and strength will be what we remember most.
I visited rome 3 weeks ago and it still was bustling , buisy , colorfull and full of life, crazy how fast the situation can change
0:55 in Romania we have the same sirens and we are also almost locked in homes. Felt familiar hearing that.
and now we have martial law too
Che tristezza, Roma mia, ferita al cuore. Queste immagini mi hanno rattristato tanto... Ma sono sicura che tornerai raggiante e la Caput Mundi di sempre...Marina, Roma
Its sad
😓😭😭😭😭😭
6:17 the best part
I’ve been in Rome many times, as Italian is so painful seeing her in this state of emptiness, I almost cried watching this, this video document will stay for ever, in 100 years we will still watching this video and be surprised of what happened
this is so wonderful...I mean the streets being empty, not the suffering
Io vivo a Roma. Vedere questo video della mia città mi ha fatto provare una grande tristezza, ma allo stesso tempo penso che queste immagini siano bellissime e molto poetiche. Ci vediamo presto, Roma.
I live in Rome. This video makes me feel sad but, at the same time, I find all this so beautiful and moving. See you soon, Rome.
Meanwhile, at the hospital.. not so quiet
Fortunately Rome was not so affected by the covid. There have been few infections and deaths compared to other European capitals (Madrid Paris or London for example...).
How beautiful life was in the 80s, 70s, and 60s,.
Not overcrowded, nor polluted, and everything was standard and peaceful.
Errrm, in your lands maybe, but ask vietnam.
We live in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi future. Also, now is the time for movie directors to capture footage for a future doomsday movie.

Thank you 😊 I wish you and your loved ones the same
I was actually in Rome 2 months ago. It was so busy and bustling, beautiful city. Seeing the street empty like that is such a shock from two months ago.
You mean 2 weeks ago...
two months ago the c virus wasn't even in europe
The scariest part is that those clips are videos and not stills
Mo Scarpelli is a genius. Hauntingly beautiful images and frames. captured the sense of desolation and hope through all the signs #everythingwillbeok so well. Brilliance.
My prayers with the people of Italy.
This breaks my heart.
God Bless everyone, I’m praying for the world 🙏🏻
Okay film students, go out and get your post apocalypse footage now, in good light and you'll have it in the bank.
Allan Hegyes yes, the one world bank
Thanks for sharing this. Hope we'll overcome this. And introspect that this life is precious and not a race or competition
ho vissuto a roma per 7 anni, tornato due anni fa nel mio paese, il quartiere filmato, proprio dove vivevo; trastevere, monteverde, tram linea 8...conosco pure la fruttivendola...madonna! I hope Italy get well soon, I am so sad! un abbraccio a tutti noi
jajang grazie!🇮🇹❤️
?? This reminds me of the expression "if a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody there to hear it, does it make a noise" and so I have to ask, regarding all of the empty museums and galleries... if an oil painting is hung on a wall and there is nobody there to look at it, is it art? (Just a thought.)
I'm using that
Excellently put. I live close to the Raffaello exhibit and I fancy those little Renaissance’s faces resting in the dark
Of course it's still art! *Vincent Van Gogh* sold only one painting during his miserable life on earth. He died poor and mad. He died without an audience. He died unknown.
Today his paintings are among the most valuable pieces of art ever made. And by "valuable" I surely do not only mean _monetarily._
I am... Interesting. Ha, is it art.?
Another saying, Art is in the eye of the beholder.!
A painting is a painting. I think it needs a human perceiver to be alive, to be ART. Then again, it was created by a human so it is alive.
If Rome was like that all year round (i mean without coronavirus) it would be a perfect destination. You could take some relaxing walks in the streets and have fun. Pray for Italy!
it would be an amusement park, not a city.
If it was like that all year round it wouldn't be Rome!
why would you want a city without people
It won’t be Rome
La Roma de Fellini ahora en el lente de Mo Scarpelli. Bella fotografia.
This will be the first event of such magnitude captured in absolute detail. In every single aspect. HD at the quality level and absolutely granular on the personal level of our social media world. ... I just hope someone will feed all this to ... great artists, writers ... and to the best AI, we will have in the future after this calamity is gone. Stay safe!
feel sad at 2.52. love you Italy, get up again.
Depressing. Not even 5am on a Sunday morning does it look so empty. I recognise a lot of those areas. I've worked in a lot of then and although Rome has a lot of problems this is far worse
Everyone around the world are in my thoughts and prayers plz be safe we'll get threw this as a team. God bless everyone 🙏
We are all living in a horror/science-fiction movie with no way out.
yes totally true and we can't fast forward
I've felt that way for years anyway.
That is the the outer world I wake up to. The inner world can be heavenly and we can make it so.
28 days or contagion for 2020 and I,Robot for next year, and soon will end it with Terminator. Get your popcorn ready 😂😂
May... Roma be blsessed...lived there foe three years. The city beautiful..
Fellini - thank you Flavio, your rainbow is lovely
What a great time for sight seeing!
that person in the swing 2:36 is one brave soul
Bella, grazie. Never so quiet, never so lonely.
This feels like the beginning of an apocalyptic movie that starts in media res.
Also, every town and city is like this in Italy, now.
i was telling about the covid-19 and the world situation to my younger sis (8 years old) she asked "What is the name of this movie Dani?"
i told her "I wish It was a movie"
😘😘👍👍
Roma Caput Mundi
Reminds me of those scenes in sound of music during when everything went silent
I don't know if it's beautiful, sad or scary, but those empty streets really do look like they are of some post-apocalypsis city.
La grande tristezza
Cierto
This was exactly similar with Shanghai two months ago. God bless you guys!
When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
This video made me feel so many things at once. But hope prevailed. We'll be alright.
I've been to most of those locations shown there last year and it very jarring looking at it now
Romans and Italian citizens are strong! the Italian government and the national healthcare system has been excellent
2:59 - Daddy, to baby: "Look at the birdie! Look at the birdie!"
This gives a good perspective on how deserted the streets are. So quiet.
Roma mia 😞 ❤️
Watching all the big cities empty make me cry 😭
Roma mia bella ❤️ 🇮🇹
Maybe you could've included some time stamps to indicate at what time you shot. The weather makes it unclear and some of those shots could've easily been mistaken for regular early mornings, taken out of context.
For example the street shots would be very impactful if we knew they were taken at rush hour when they're usually very crowded, but since we don't know the time they're not as powerful.
It's just a detail I noticed.
The first place showed is Trastevere :( I was there in october 2019 with my girlfriend on our first eurotrip. Such a beautiful place and delicious food :( so sad. I feel so lucky I visited Spain, France, Germany, Netherlands and Italy now that would be impossible :/
Cute when they started dancing.
You filmed the only cloudy day in Rome since the quarantine started 😂
Never thought I'd ever see NYC on a lock down.
3:01 Without an honest italian arguing this video wouldn't be authentic. 😂 Could someone translate it?
szj8_1 not all words are clear due to the other sounds. It was more likely a woman shouting to a child who doesn’t want to study. But not sure 100% 😅
Looks like and Evangelion episode. I was waiting for an angel to attack at any moment during the video
God you are so right, I feel in danger now
The New Yorker. Nice capture, nice sound, timing. Good editing. Thank you for this video.
Lord Jesus, please have mercy upon us. Forgive us for our sins. Please heal our world. And if we must leave, please accept us into your Kingdom. Amen.
Prayers to those who are infected, get well soon
And prayers to the people of the world, get this virus outta here!
The same scene we can see in other cities all around the world. So my beloved Arezzo too, in middle Itlay, the city where the famous Benigni movie "Life is beautiful" was filmed. A month has passed without the possibility to see all my siblings, my nephews, my uncle, my girlfriend. We really don't know what future will be, cause everyone has been hit by this emergency.
The eloquence of silence.
4:32 That is actually "Siete i nostri eroi", "You are our heroes". I think it is more effective than a plain "you are in our thoughts"... naughty translator!
Aww the last minute is so humane.
Silently beautiful, disarming
WE VISITED ROME IN OCTOBER ! STAY SAFE EVERYONE AND GOD BLESS !
An authentic quarantine !! forza Italia !!
I wonder how they were able to film the images; did they need a special permit to roam around capturing footage? Or as journalists, would documenting the state of the city be part of the essential jobs list? Watching these images is so surreal, I'm glad they were able to be captured and shared with us.
