- Former Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of PepsiCo Indra Nooyi discusses her memoir "My Life in Full: Work, Family, and Our Future", a firsthand view of her legendary career and the sacrifices it so often demanded.
"My Life in Full" takes us through the events that shaped Nooyi, from her childhood and early education in 1960s India, to the Yale School of Management, to her rise as a corporate consultant and strategist who soon ascended into the most senior executive ranks. The book offers an inside look at PepsiCo, and Nooyi’s thinking as she steered the iconic American company toward healthier products and worked to reduce the company’s environmental impact, despite resistance at every turn. For the first time, Nooyi also lays bare the difficulties that came with managing her demanding job with a growing family, what she learned along the way, and what it means for our future. She makes a clear, actionable, urgent call for business and government to prioritize the care ecosystem, paid leave and work flexibility, and a convincing argument for how improving company and community support for young family builders will unleash the economy’s full potential.
Indra Nooyi is globally renowned for leading PepsiCo through a decade of tremendous growth and change, and is responsible for growing PepsiCo's revenues from $35 billion when she became CEO to $64.6 billion in 2018. She oversaw a portfolio of global brands and diversified products enjoyed by consumers more than one billion times a day in more than 180 countries and territories around the world. She has been featured in Forbes' "The World's 100 Most Powerful Women," Fortune's "Most Powerful Women," and TIME's "100 Most Influential People in The World." Nooyi was awarded the U.S. State Department’s award for Outstanding American by Choice and the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honor. She has received 15 honorary degrees. She holds a B.S. from Madras Christian College, an M.B.A. from the Indian Institute of Management in Calcutta, and a Master of Public and Private Management from Yale University.

Indra Nooyi is a great leader who is honest, competent, humane and her promotion is based on job performance. I was inspired when she said mentee are chosen by Mentors .
Both Lilah and Indra are such clear speakers. I loved this interview and also Indra's book!
Indra framed the gender role as an economic argument and not a feminist argument. It is important to appreciate that she was a trailblazer because she had no women bosses. More importantly, she fought through the societal norms in India where women were prevented from even pursuing a higher education.
I don't think I have ever watched a more insightful and better spoken interview before in my life, loved every minute of this!
I really liked what Indira told about building a stronger sisterhood. It is very true, I don't understand why women see each other as a threat more than a support.

I respect the work Indra Nooyi is trying to do here - bringing inclusion and strong family values in American society; that will benefit it greatly.
I am skeptical about the ultimate success though. Diversity is hard because there are deep differences in values between groups of people and until you unite those in a synthesis, a real diversity is not possible; what you get is diverse folk conforming to some dominant culture, a fine compromise!
As an aside I'm also impressed by how direct and clear she speaks, definitely one of a kind!

Dear Indra nooyi mam how to balance work and kids because it's a tough challenge at the same time my in-laws are not supportive they don't keep helping mates for work.. how to manage Plusx health is not well and I feel irritated and I just keep struggling and juggling inside my mind and body
She lost me with her statement that said "Put the company before yourself..." Unfortunately, I'll put family and self before a company.
I think you hvnt seen her interviews.in every interview she clearly said family comes first anything next. May be she told in context when u become CEO of company you are everything to company.but if u see any of her interviews she always mentions always family comes first.oly bcoz of her family she achieved this much.she always said that

Also she said next if companies don’t promote you for your performance, shame on them and maybe you seek out better companies.
Thanks for the 50-55 hour weeks while getting paid Chinese overtime, Indra. I’m sure you’ve been set for life since 1999, but the rest of us plebs have to keep working just to stay in the shitholes we call homes.
In her life she headed one of the largest producer of junk food. Her job was selling more and more sugar-laden junk to more and more people (In her 12 year tenure as CEO, PepsiCo's sales grew 80%). She made millions at the cost of people's health.

Nobody asked you to replace your daily meals with junk food . Lack of moderation is a personal lack of accountability - none of PepsiCo’s products are unhygienic, stale , alcoholic or disease-producing in of itself and are enjoyed by people all over the world.

I admire her for her success etc. but considering that for the last few decades we blame junk food for the rising obesity and metabolic diseases, her success puts health of the common man at stake. I personally don’t drink any soda, try to avoid all those junk food PepsiCo is selling. But this is what all management universities teach, how to sell their products. She is a prime product of that mba culture.
What the hell! During her tenure Pepsico mass marketed 'Diet Pepsi' and 'Quaker Oats'. She launched the 'Good for you' campaign in FMCG market.

By your logic, companies selling alcohol should also be questioned. The key here is moderation and personal accountability. Excess of anything is bad. Too much of exercise may also turn fatal. Then do you start blaming fitness companies ?

Because she said "women are wicked smart"? You know that doesn't mean men aren't, right? Women's intelligence has been routinely disregarded and devalued throughout history, so she's saying it that way to give validation to women's intellect.

Women constantly get pulled in multiple directions and end up taking a back seat due to high demands and lack of male allies at work and in general our society. A woman can be successful only when we have broad minded secure men who are willing to be their allies and support them. We don't see that happening and that's why this conversation hits home for so many women out there! If you had listened to the whole conversation she say diversity and inclusion are two different things. You are taking about diversity, I am taking about inclusive mindset!
