- By far the worst experience we’ve had living in our truck camper…
Yes, we love the beauty of camping in the winter, but when we unexpectedly get 3x the amount of snow and are unable to leave the campground, fun turns into fear. Join us as we realize just how unprepared we are for winter.

Enjoy your time together. It's not the end of the world
Hopefully you learned your lesson on what tires you should have in winter months in Colorado. Also a winch is never a bad idea for what you guys are doing out in the woods. This could have been a lot worse learn from it and be more prepared. Looking forward to more adventures.
And where were the snow chains??
@@kateymateymusic1 the off road tires and let your tires down if you get stuck
Yep. Good snow lugs on bead lock wheels would’ve made a difference.
@@samfogleman271 No body runs bead locks on a mostly pavement rig. Better tires would have helped for sure.
Firestone tires are absolute junk. Even with these junk tires. Airing down would have helped. No shovel? Who doesn't carry a shovel camping? Colorado Mtn's are no joke.
OMG! I loved it!! What a beautiful snow storm and so happy you got out! Great job you two! Cheers! ~M
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, the suspense was nail biting. Glad you’re both save, stay the way.
Glad you enjoyed!
You need to run all terrain tires and airing your tires down in mud, snow or sand will increase traction. Add an air compressor to your gear to air up once to safety....a winch can save your life. Always have a couple extra bottles of propane and fill your tank when heading into back country. Be safe.
Thanks for the tips!
A good tow strap and a come-along will do the same job as a winch. Slower, more work but probably way less than 1/4 the price with no installation.
Tire chains or cables aren't cheap--but compared to getting four mounted snow tires and figuring where to store them (g) that's also something to consider. FOUR of them.
@@lyfandeth not snow tires...all terrain...big difference...
Next time you are faced with trying to move through a foot of snow, consider doing what’s done when people take 4WD vehicles on the sandy beaches: substantially lower the tire air pressure to get a better traction. Once back on dry pavement, you do need to re-inflate the tires, hopefully you do carry a compressor. If not, just drive very slowly until you reach a service station. Good video!
.... WOWEE !! That was FUN ,, Let's do it again next week ....
You guys are awesome! Great video and I love watching your stuff, I’m living in my truck camper while I’m working on the road:)
That’s awesome, maybe we’ll run into you somewhere along the way!
Come to Grand Junction Colorado High Desert area they only get 15 inches of snow in the winter you can either get it all at once or a inch at a time mild temperatures
Oh my.....that was so crazy that I had to fast forward ahead to see if you had to stay longer. Hmmm...I bet you wish you could have fast forwarded to find out what happened lol. Be safe....that was exciting. Of course, I live south of Central Texas so I never see snow.
I've seen snow in Colorado on the 4th of July when we were camping.
Thats alot of fun!!
Y'all's a awesome beautiful very much in love u guys had me on the edge of my seat so happy u made it out i jump for joy thank God 😂
Wow, that was 'fun'!! 😁
Did you remember to grab the leveling-blocks that you used at 18:20 ?? 🤔
heck no...they just buy new ones
GREAT VIDEOS MY FRIEND KEEP THEM COMING FROM THE JUST FAMILY IN CROSBY TEXAS
Thanks! Will do!
Just found this channel love it
Great 👍 video
The dog is super cute.
Have these 2 ever seen snow before???
Amelia you have a BEAUTIFUL smile. Loved the video.
Thank you so much!
I had a Ram 3500 and I always carried snow chains. We winter camp on a regular basis in our fifth wheel/toy hauler. The snow chains were the difference in being stuck or not.
Tires! Tires! Very Important.! If you are gona do that, forget Firestone's all season. Get you some good Mud and Snow tires! And maybe a Winch?
If winter is a thing where youre at, then you should have tire cables or chains. And know how to use them.
No seatbelts? I'm really surprised.
do you have 4wd? I couldn't tell from the video.... and no chains?
You can tell that is a Dodge. NOISEY exhaust.
I ONLY HAVE ONE QUESTION. WHESRE ARE YOUR 4 TIRE CHAINS?
Better tires and airing down would've saved you a world of hassle😅
Good job 👏 😊
Is the truck 4wd?
Before I start, please realize I am not trying to insult you.
I have never seen anyone so unprepared for those conditions as you. Maybe it's because I am British and used to camping in those conditions in the peak district, but if I was totally unprepared as you where and was camped at the bottom of a hill even if it was only forcost for one inch I would have driven to the top of the hill by the exit. You need snow chains, diff locks, lower your tyre pressures, crawling boards, etc for those conditions .
My Van has two types of cooking and heating, gas and electric, just as a precaution.
Be prepared and be safe. as for recon walks and, good God, leaving your wife to the mercy of wild life, I am speechless.
My only thought is that maybe you live in a warm part of the US and didn't realize the risks.
No, that's the "hunters snow".
EVERY October.
Where are your snow chains?
Remote camping in Colorado in Winter with no tire chains? ….at the BOTTOM of a hill? Really?
Get Tire chains. No big deal.
Had time for that pound of makeup though 😮😮😮
That wasn't a blizzard. That was a snow storm.
You are so right that’s a snowstorm. I’m rom Chicago & we know about blizzards
That’s exactly what I was going to say, it’s all relative to where are you from… to them it may have been a blizzard-speaking from Chicago, also.
😊it would be good to put chains after the rear wheels
Hey guys, glad you stayed safe! During cold weather camping, you should get a second LP tank and attach it to the roof ladder. I have seen many do this and it is a great backup. In warmer weather just don't refill the extra lp tank.
Great job and video! Can you guys buy another propane tank and have it filled up as a spare? You could just set it inside your camper while you are traveling. Amazon sells a plastic base that the tank can temporarily sit in so it doesn't fall over when traveling. I use mine when I detach my propane tanks from the trailer and drive to the fill up place. Just a thought for emergencies...and maybe a few dehydrated backpacking meals for backup too. 😉 Keep up the awesome videos!!
I’m impressed that you guy’s kept a level head and worked together in a difficult situation!! Congrats to you both!!
Thank you for the compliment!
always remember these youtubers are only showing what they want to show you.
My Dad taught me , if you get caught in snow/ice you can use your car mats placed under tires to get traction. Please be safe with your travels.
Thank you for this tip ☺️
Living in Minnesota, everyone I know, including myself, have tried the car mats. Nope. Doesn’t work. What does work? Cheap kitty litter. Lots of it. Not that clumping kind. Just cheap regular kitty litter.
@@JupiterMoon19 thank you 🙏🏽
How big are your floor mats?
Doesn’t work.
So glad you made it out of there! Hope you will stock up on things to help you get out of slick situations! Looked like the pup enjoyed the snow!
That must have been tough on your guys. I always carry kitty litter, sand , tire chains and foldable tire tracks in my truck for a case like this. You hope never to use them but if you need it, you got it. Safe travels!
We’d of given anything for some chains or cat litter, we’ll be adding it to the setup now!
Chains chains chains! ❤
@@LivingLargeCamping what size tires?
@@MannyWC keep us together
No chains? Dude, you need them.
Good thing it wasn’t a real blizzard or you may have had an entirely different experience.
We have about your same setup with a ford f350 and an older lace. We added a low watt roof heater/air conditioner that we can run on a small generator because we got caught in a blizzard in Montana and couldn’t move for a week, the propane and wet heat and below zero temps wasn’t ideal. One gallon of fuel heats our camper for 15 hours of nice dry heat, no frozen windows. Love our Lance. We also have chains for the truck now. That blizzard taught us some valuable lessons in winter camper camping. We ended up digging out with a medal plate and a serving spoon, one of our sons “used the shovel” and didn’t put it back. It was an adventure of slip and sliding with nerve wracking stress! Lol
Looks like might be time for a tire upgrade. I know it's a trade off on mileage but maybe something to think about. Beautiful though!❤ A good attitude keeps it enjoyable for sure 👍 Thamks for taking us with you on your wintery adventure! ❤ 😂
We’ve been planning on new tires this winter anyway, thanks for tuning in!
@@LivingLargeCamping While you are at it you might also want to buy a set of snow chains, unless you are heading south to warmer climates.
@LivingLargeCamping a set of tire chains are cheaper than new tires. I wouldn't leave home without em in the winter.
Just found your channel and really enjoyed your video! Glad you guys made it out of their, my wife and I have been stuck in some pretty crazy snow before too so I understand the feeling! Looks like there are a bunch of suggestions already in the comments, but adding in my 2 cents for what its worth (hope it is helpful!).
I would recommend always having redundancy for all of the major life supporting systems when camping in the cold (even if no snow is forecast) - i.e., more propane than you think you need for heat and cooking, extra food, extra warm layers, etc. I'm sure you are already planning to, but you should add some recovery gear to your kit like maxtrax, chains, a tow and snatch strap, and a few soft shackles. These can come in handy in any recovery situation, not just snow (think mud, sand, loose dirt). I would also recommend getting some good AT tires that are 3 peak mountain snowflake rated and have a fairly aggressive tread. (I like falken wildpeak at3w for full size trucks instead of KO2's, they last a bit longer.) You sacrifice wear speed for more traction, but if you are living in your camper, traction would win it for me every day to make sure I can always have traction getting in and out of campsites no matter what state I am in.
Although it does little for ice, airing down your tires is always more helpful than not when traction is an issue. you can go down to 12-15 PSI and still be safe off road and increase your traction coefficient substantially, even in snow (ice is another story, but airing down can't hurt). Adding some sort of air pump to your kit to fill your tires back up would also be good incase you opted to air down because you wouldn't want to drive very fast on a main road with your tires so low.
Hope you find some part of that helpful! Good luck to you on your future travels!
Edit: I almost forgot! Keep a snow and dirt shovel on hand! I can't tell you the amount of times I have been stuck without a shovel when I desperately needed one! They make cheap compact snow and dirt shovels that can easily be stored under the truck seat or mounted on the exterior.
I live in Colorado. Weather predictions can’t ever be trusted. In the mountains, and even the Front Range, you can never be too careful, or overly prepared. Colorado weather can literally go from sunny to hazardous within 5 minutes. Sadly, many stories don’t end well.
Wow guys I’m so happy you guys worked together to get out of their i live in Colorado and what you experience could turn your adventure into a nightmare I think people sometimes believe a truck with big tires should get out of every situation but as you can see it’s not necessarily true it’s definitely a learning experience and it brings confidence in what I need to prepare for even when the weather calls for something different learning is growing and growing is maturity praying for wisdom and confidence in your next adventure God bless and take care❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Glad you are fine, Thank God! Life is about the experiences we live. Now you know how to get un-stuck! Love 🥰🥰🥰
Crazy video! Stay out of the high country when snow is expected!
I live in that stuff. Never go into the woods with snow coming without tire chains.
Wow!! How beautiful but definitely a scary situation. Glad y’all made it out safely. What memories you’ll have from this experience. Safe travels!!
You guys are so lucky to have such an adventure! You'll remember this for years to come!
Girl, I agree with you. It made me nervous to watch you slide. It’s 2 AM, I’m a 73 yr old great grandmother watching you do what I would love to do. Thank you for sharing.
Owww how beautiful
I enjoy watching camping out videos during severe weather -- and good ghost or bigfoot stories to boot! Lived in New England for 29 years, and I surely do not miss the weather!
❤❤❤❤
Colorado weather is unpredictable, especially in the high country. Glad you made it out safe.
Thank you! It sure is
I see alot of offroaders travel on deep snow trails. I often think when they stay over night in a snow storm what happens if the mountains dumps snow for days... I seen on video where the guy had to walk out and left his jeep there until spring. CARHART COVERALLS..
When y’all got unstuck I thought Amelia was going to do an end zone dance! Then as Connor was driving like Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights to make it to the pavement I had to giggle. 😂 So glad you guys made it out!
She just about did! Glad it was an enjoyable episode, not sure we’ll have another one like it anytime soon!
CONGRATULATIONS...you survived AND learned alot about cold weather / snow camping!! And, perhaps without realizing it, you learned alot about each other. You both seem to get along and I sense that continues "OFF CAMERA" as well! We camped in the same size Lance you have for many years and as we watched your video, we discussed what would would have done differently regarding staying warm!! Using your furnance will definately keep your rig warm, but based upon our experiences, and perhaps yours, it REALLY uses up your LP.. Here's a couple hints to consider re: getting more from your LP supply: 1. leave the oven pilot lite on, with the door open 2. find a clay pot, the size commonly used for house plants, and place it ocer one of your cooktop burners and lite the burner. IT will get very, VERY hot but it will radiate heat for many hours as it cools down. OBVIOUSLY, this can be a dangerous heat source and should be used with care nad only will you are awake. 3. in the morning, use the heat from preparing your tea, food, etc. to heat the inside. Consider getting a roll of "reflective insulation" (Home Depot) cut it to fit all windows and then pull your shades down. That will not only keep some cold out, but in the summertime, it'll keep the inside of you rig much cooler on very hot days.
That's it for now....Keep Exploring and Having Fun!!
A good rule for camping in Colorado in the months that have a "R" in them remember to have tire chains it can snow as early as September and as late as April, plus having full or a extra propane tank you never know safe travels.
That dust pan was effective! Beautiful scenery. That was hard to watch. I can't imagine how it was for you two. Great job!
It sure moved some snow! Thanks for tuning in
I really can't believe that ranger did not come back around to see if you were OK, knowing that you were the only ones there.
Not his job to look after idiots
❤snow plow should be there first so the ranger can go through !❤
Loved the video. You two learned a little here it appears. I could read the stress and the elation in both of you. The happy ending kiss brought a smile to me. Be careful and keep producing videos of your travels. Barkley looks like he really enjoys the snow too!🇺🇸🦅🌴🌴🌴
back in the 70's We were stuck in several feet of snow in Northern AZ , in a tent trailer ....definitely makes for a good story you guys did good thanks for the video !
I have to ask, did you leave your red traction things in the snow? Thought maybe you were too excited and forgot them. 🙂
Came here to ask the same thing. He took off and she wasn't carrying them.
Same!
So glad you guys are ok and got out. You were blessed no damage happened to the truck. Hard to believe this much snow ... Still 90 degrees this weekend in Texas. Loved seeing Barkley loving the snow. Thanks for sharing this scary adventure.
Thanks for watching, Amanda! Crazy the change of weather, we’re already back to sunny and 60+
If you get a portable air compressor , you’ll have the ability to air down and re-inflate and greatly improve traction. This Inconvenience is sure better than a real pickle. Good learning experience! Glad you made it out!
I was wondering if anyone would suggest airing down. I'm sure it would have helped.
We do have a compressor, just didn’t consider airing down. We know for next time!
@@LivingLargeCamping SERIOUSLY? You had the ability to air down and air back up again and DIDN'T do that? Jesus. SMH.
I don't air down unless really really have to. I need the ground clearance.
This was WILD!!! That snow was so so deep. Makes for a great story!!! Thank goodness you guys made it out safe. SO EPIC!
We just went through a very similar situation! Great job guys! Glad you made it out👍
You both are a great team! You both stayed calm and just worked together towards a favorable result. Love your videos!
Thanks so much!
Great teamwork!!! Although it was a winter wonderland, I would have been a bit nervous being the only ones at the campground .
I think it will be a while before you are in snowy conditions again. Be safe.
God bless! Pets to your adorable furbaby. ❤
Thank you for the kind words!
Keep in mind that some mountain roads, especially park roads, actually close in bad winter weather. Hope you at least registered with someone because if the road closes no one may come by and if you get into trouble, you are just on your own.
You both did a beautiful job working together to get out of a scary situation. Awesome content, keep up the great work.
Good job guys! I was holding my breath till the end of the video.
I’d recommend snow tires, chains, a big shovel and any emergency items that you didn’t have. Get a 2-way walkie talkie as well. Keep traveling!
You did great together! Glad you got out safe and sound. 🤗 But echoing others, if you come to Colorado... always expect the unexpected. Have snow chains with you and practice putting them on in advance so you aren't figuring it out in the cold. Some passes require snow chains to drive through. Also, they have traction devices you can use in snow or mud that would be handy to keep on board. Stay safe.
That was very stressful watching I can't even imagine being there. You guys are a strong couple talked it through and got out. Great video just so glad you let us tag along on your adventures. Thank you and God bless.
Thank you for the kind words!
I was really on the edge of my seat pulling for you both. I know you were already out by the time I saw it. BUT I LOVE THE ADVENTURE . SAFE TRAVELS and GOD BE WITH YOU BOTH
I would be having the big one. How stressful..
you guys are amazing.
Welcome to the real world 🙂 At ten minutes seeing all the ground cleared ,.. who needs a plow when you have that kind of clearing ... (Obviously you guys are okay) ... hind site teasing .. 🙂
Search on diesel parking heaters, runs on diesel 5 gallons will last about 2 weeks something to think about as an alternative heat source powers by 12volts and puts out a lot of heat.
So much talking about nothing!!!!
I love the winter snow ❄️ camping! Probably my favorite to watch the vibes are so good. Even though it can be tricky for you guys
You should drive out early when it’s cold, warm weather just makes the snow wetter and way more slippery!
I was about to say the same thing. Cold dry conditions are way better. They should have tried in the morning. When it gets above freezing, it's slimy. Multiple times they said they would wait for it to warm up. That's the opposite of experience shows. Ahh. I want to teach youngsters things like this.
No substitute for chains. Always think “what if,” and Donner Party.
Very well done with many lessons learned. Thank you for taking us along. Stay safe and God bless.
no chains? I always keep a set of 4 in my 4x4, just in case. So you can chain up all 4 wheels and get out of anything.
Lol. I knew y’all looked familiar. If you remember, I was the ranger that told you guys there was a winter storm coming up.
That’s too funny, what a small world! Thanks for stopping by to warn us!
First of all having the stock tires on your truck was a main problem they're not meant for snow conditions invest on some all terrains.
I found having a radio with a weather band helps--yes with extra batteries.. Dog helps too--our two dachshunds were perfect under the covers!
I’ve had Lance campers, travel trailers and been in the snow, mud and cold, had dead batteries, run outta propane etc…. Buy 4 V-Bar chains, 30’ 30k tow strap, a Little buddy propane heater and save your camper batteries and propane. Buy a quick jump starter and carry a 3000w generator, gas and a pancake air compressor. You have to be totally self sufficient and can’t rely on anyone but yourselves. And carry bear spray when you are in bear country, especially when you go for a walk. Looks like you had a nice adventure. Enjoy it!
LoL... you guys would be better off staying on the Gulf Coast somewhere 😂
It’s not the snow; it’s the ice underneath. It must have rained first, then froze, then snow.
PUT THE CHAINS ON!!
Great job getting out of the snow!! You guys are a great TEAM!!
Thank you!
21:30 see pavement add pulls out right in front of the one and only car coming down the highway.
All those evergreen branches would have given you lots of traction!!
Nice show you guys making it out. I wish I could have been there if at all to help. The good thing was you were together to help each other out and that is awesome. Thanks for sharing with the community.
So exactly what was "raw" the honey? And what was intense? Millenials are too soft.
Good job guys, need to invest in some chains to help with traction
I live along Lake Erie in PA. I literally know what it is like. The older that I get. the more I HATE SNOW, Esp. ICE. I have been here most of my adult life and just cant wait to someday, move to western NC!
That’s a place with some serious winter! And western NC is beautiful, hopefully you’ll move over there someday!
Is this Yukon? It looks like it's snowing so much.
