I know the actual story of the whale, in fact I was there I used to work there is a maintenance guy in my early 20s. One day me and a few other workers were raising the whale out of the water for one last show before the season ended, we were scheduled to do maintenance. The maintenance was specifically a hydraulic rebuild because the whale mechanism was failing and that’s what killed the whale. So we went to go raise the whale, and during that process the whale came out of the water as normal swung up and was perfectly level and was working as it should, after a minute though the whale started shaking violently. The whale came out of the water using a winch that’s how it worked for the show but it had to hydraulic cylinders that raised the tail and the front end for a more realistic look. One of those hydraulic cylinders blew up causing the whale frame to crack into multiple pieces, the whale ended up falling off the track into the bottom of the water. I know a few friends who do scuba, The whale is still down there but it’s fiberglass, aluminum skin is so rotted and worn off it’s just a hollow rusty steel frame. That’s why I no one’s able to really see it. Cool that you’re looking for though I saw it last year you could still see the cylinder down there on the pond floor. that blew up. kind of a crazy story, but that’s what happened. Explosion wasn’t very loud. It was underwater so it was more just bubbles. The Hydraulic system pumped the pond water into the pistons and that’s how it worked. I’m not exactly sure but some of those pipes could be what’s left of those hydraulic lines pumping water into those pistons. I know there was an electric pump that constantly cycled the water in the pond and it was like a filter. This was put into the water so it wasn’t so murky I’m pretty sure it’s still there I’m not sure if it’s working but it’s just constantly cycling the pond water.
That would be so disturbing. Just imagine you go there one morning about to turn it on to get it out of the water, but someone literally did something wrong. So it results the whale just going under the water really fast, only to hear a loud thump at the bottom seconds later. I can’t even imagine how scary that would be in person to see.
ClassicRockDJdotcom I find it kind of amusing I live all the way in Canada; never been here. But I still find this park really interesting. I've been tracking the Moby animatronic, and I am pretty sure its still there, but now beached on shore!
Use to sneak in by walking through the closeby woods and scaling the fence. I am sure I am in the audience watching Clarabel. But I also saw the other acts like the Three Stooges and Ricky Nelson.
Oh, what memories! I won a day trip there when I was a paperboy for the Greenfield Recorder Gazette back in 1965. Really had a blast that day. I loved the Wreck of the Hesperus ride the best.
2:52 Apparently after the park closed, the whale broke in four pieces and is at the bottom of the park, 8 feet down, broken. and I stole that from TikTok like a boss
Wow... like stepping back in time. Not sure if we had more fun there as kids or as teenagers after it burned down. "Party at PI" was a commonly shared phrase in high school - before social media or cell phones - when the weekend plans were spread around school, lol
@@gerrydooley951 no. I also met Caesar Romero ( the joker in Batman) ; little Joe Cartwright, Frank Gorshin ( the Riddler in Batman) and Fess Parker ( Davy Crockett on TV in those days).

@TechMasterJason Got to visit the park 3 times as a kid. There used to be a site online with pics of the park after it'd closed and been vandalized. Sad to see how it had fallen.

@TechMasterJason I have a feeling that the something was up there. The whale animatronic was about to be taken out when the park shut down and it suddenly cracked broke into four pieces and sunk to the bottom of the water.
@TechMasterJason Don't know, maybe. It could be even deeper in the water if so. I hope by now its decayed or nowhere to be seen. Edit: Turns out after some research that it may still be there, a guy was at the park when a guy in a scuba suit come out of the water. The guy said he came face to face with a giant eye, so part of the whale may still be there.
The kids in the crowd were having a total blast !! I don’t think they were thinking about “racism “ at that point. They just wanted there Pepsi and cotton candy.

Do you pictures of the whale down in the lagoon because I’m very interested of finding pictures of the Moby Dick animatronic

My first job was on the clean up crew at Pleasure Island. It was really a fun place to work. Most of the employees were high school students.
Cool memories! Went there a few times.
Watching this from the office park that now stands on the Pleasure Island site. You can still see some of the amusements when the water is low
Wish I had a place like this where I live.
Only trace of the old park is an exit off RTE 128 that goes onto Pleasure Island Road.
