  • In this video, I check out the Kiwi design Battery Head Strap. You can buy the battery strap currently for $69.99 from Amazon US ➡️ amzn.to/3fp71LH, £69.99 from Amazon UK ➡️ amzn.to/3fwMAfJ, and €80 from Amazon DE ➡️ amzn.to/3h5lLQh. Or $89.99 directly from Kiwi design store ➡️ bit.ly/kiwibattery use their site wide code for 10% off, and you can also use my promo code OQPLAY for 5%.
    This long-awaited battery head strap from Kiwi design takes their already comfortable Upgraded Elite Strap and adds a 6400mAh battery at the back to give up to 7 hours of total playtime on your Quest 2.
    It has taken Kiwi a little too long to release their battery strap for the Quest 2, whilst many other competing brands have caught up and have had theirs available for a number of months now.
    What advantages Kiwi does have over theirs is the overall level of built quality and design. With its large rear foam pad at the back, its comfortable top foam strap, and its solid side hinge point that allows for an easier way to put on and remove the headset as well as to flip the headset up to talk to someone, take a rest or sip a drink during gameplay.
    I found its bundled side clip to be a little over-designed and too bulky for my liking. A more discreet and simpler clip could have done just the same job and not stand out as much as this one does on the side of the strap. There’s also no way to stop or start the battery either via a button on the strap, if you don’t want the Quest 2 to charge you have to remove the power cable.
    With a VR cover and foam pad adding more weight to the headset than stock, the headset remained a little front heavy, but not as significant as using the original Upgraded Elite Strap from Kiwi design. The weight of the battery at the back does improve long-term comfort with its added counterbalance. However, the extra weight at the back does mean that the whole headset can move side to side with fast head turns a lot more than a non-battery strap would. So as a result, you might find that you wear the strap slightly tighter to counter this effect when playing games with fast head turn movements.
    I tried a few headphones with this head strap, and most of the time I had to remove the cable clip, as it just got too much in the way. Once this was removed, all the over-ear headphones I tried fitted ok, with a few minor adjustments to get the foam underneath the side rails.
    As fitting in cases goes. The extra bulk of the battery might limit its ability to fit in some cases. The original Kiwi strap didn’t fit in the official case, and neither will its battery strap. It does however still fit in Kiwi’s own smaller carry case that I reviewed. So if you’re also interested in a carry case for this strap, you can check out my review.
    If you’ve been holding out for the release of this head strap, then the wait is now over, and the end product is just as I had hoped. Kiwi design didn’t need to change anything from their Upgraded Elite Strap, and just add a battery, and that’s exactly what they have done. With up to 7hours of extra playtime added to the same level of comfort. If you’re looking for an Elite strap with a battery solution, then this should definitely be on your shortlist.

    I’m really not sure what to get, either the kiwi elite without battery or the bobo with battery. The things that concern me is the weight of the bobo and the head movement issues but it does have the extra battery life. But I like the idea of the comfy kiwi without a battery

    • @OQPlay
      @OQPlay  Год назад

      It depends on your play style. If you regularly charge manually and happy to do that you can get by with the kiwi elite, but the halo with battery is also great if you regularly run out of battery during your sessions. Both are great strap and you won’t be disappointed with either route you choose.

    Soo... regarding the charging...
    If you've got your headset turned 'off', but have the battery strap cable inserted... and then you 'charge' the battery strap... Does it then first charge the headset till full and afterwards continue filling up the battery, and is this the best method? Or would it be better to charge both the headset and strap separately, one after the other, and then just recharge the strap whenever it's charge gets low?

    • @OQPlay
      @OQPlay  Год назад +4

      Yes it charges Quest first, then the battery. In a way you want to the Quest decharging at least once a month to maintain its battery health. Having it charging to 100% all the time can’t be good for it. So I would get the Quest down to around 20-40% and at the end of the session you’re on then plug the strap in and let it charge the Quest and a strap back up before your next session.

      @@OQPlay hi! Having the oculus charging to 100% all the time is bad, why?

    • @OQPlay
      @OQPlay  Год назад

      It’s just not good for the battery. Most batteries should be between 20-80% to maintain good battery life. Maxing it to 100% can stress the chemical in the batterie effecting it’s health and reduces its efficiency long term. There is some battery management in straps but I think it’s not enough. Their not smart enough as an iPhone is for managing the reviving charging.

    • @lawor8
      @lawor8 Год назад +1

      @@OQPlay So by that same logic having the battery pack charged at 100 or having it run down to less than 20% is not healthy for the battery pack either. Correct?

    • @OQPlay
      @OQPlay  Год назад

      In a way yes. At least the strap is replaceable where as more care needs to be put on the headset and it’s internal battery - much harder to replace.
      If you like upgrading often it is a non issue. Because the battery will still have good enough health by the time the Quest3 comes out.

    I choose now for myself, cheap halo strap hurts my neck, I think either Bobovr M2 Pro, or this new Kiwi Design .. Which would you prefer?

    • @OQPlay
      @OQPlay  Год назад +1

      You’re comparing a halo style of strap with an elite style. Both have their pros and cons. If you don’t like face pressure I’d go with the bobo. If you’re doing high intense Vr or fitness then the kiwi strap might be more secure for those uses.

    • @DevilsAgent47
      @DevilsAgent47 Год назад +1

      @@OQPlay In the beginning, I bought a triangular soft foam like quest 1 for a standard mount, and I use amvr face intarface, with this setup it became much better. Then I bought a simple halo strap on aliexpress for $ 30, it holds the headset well on my head, but after an hour of playing, I realized that my vertebrae in my neck felt bad. I now realized that the standard and elite mount creates a center of gravity lower relative to the neck, and halo pulls the head down and forward and the center of gravity is higher, in the forehead area, this creates a strong tension on the neck.

    • @OQPlay
      @OQPlay  Год назад +1

      @@DevilsAgent47 maybe an elite with battery might be better to give you better counterbalance. Halo never has good counterbalance because the strap doesn’t have a top strap and side rigid points to cantilever the weight. So I think a battery strap will move the forward weight towards the back and reduce pressure you’re experiencing on the back of your head and neck. The kiwi battery strap might work for you. If you are able to get it from Amazon you can try it for its return window and send it back if there is any discomfort.

    I have a question when you put to charge the battery does the battery charge the oculus and still gets the battery charge ?

    • @OQPlay

      Yes, as long as you have the strap connected to the Quest, it will charge this first and once full the battery will then recharge in the strap.

    I’m confused on the part where it drains the oculus can you explain?

    • @OQPlay
      @OQPlay  Год назад

      The strap doesn’t drain the headset. It’s the other way around.
      So, if you keep you Quest in sleep mode and don’t fully shut it down, the headset will draw charge from the battery strap to keep itself charged until the battery in the strap is drained and then the Quest will drain its own battery until both have no charge left.
      It’s better to remove the strap cable when in sleep mode so the headset doesn’t drain the strap battery too.

    does the elite strap usb port melt if charged for to long?

    • @OQPlay
      @OQPlay  Год назад

      I doubt it. They have to go through many safety standards and one is overcharging. The strap should just not accept the charge and not overheat as a result.

    I have this headstrap and it's great but I can't get the battery to take over when the headset battery is low. I have the extra battery plugged into the Quest 2 headset but it doesn't work. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, Any suggestions?

    • @OQPlay
      @OQPlay  4 месяца назад

      Because this strap battery hasn’t got an on/off mode, as soon as the cable is connected it will start to charge the quest battery. So once quest battery is low it’s likely the strap battery will already be empty too.
