Throw a tip top guide on there and it will act like a “light action” now being that some of the “whippy tip” is gone. It will still fish just fine as a reborn “light action”.
@@davidarwood6264Sure, why not? Just be careful where you cut it so the guides are spaced good. You don’t want two guides right on top of each other, obviously. Just wrap the rod with a few wraps of painter’s masking tape where you want to cut it and use a very fine toothed hacksaw blade to cut through the tape and rod in that spot. (go sloooow and light. You don’t want it to splinter, hence the tape). Lemme know how it went. Take care my friend.
I had a 5’ UL that I liked a lot. My kid broke it when he got hung in a tree. I ordered a new one for pick up at Wally World yesterday. I thought it was a 7’ UL but when I got it it was a 7’ light. I’m going to string it up with some 4# trout magnet line and see how it throws light trout magnets tomorrow. If it doesn’t work out I’m going to just pair it up with some 8# and make a light action bass rod out of it and pick up another UL for my panfish set up. I do wish they made the UL in 6’ or 6’6”. 7 is a tad long for the creeks I fish and 5’ just feels a bit small. If the 7’ light works out I may pick up the 6’6” light. Good video.
@@22lbsboost it did ok. I paired it up with some 4# SOS line and threw around a panfish magnet on a 1/64 jig head. It honestly cast them better than I thought. Distance wise it was fine but it was hard to get any accuracy, the rod is a tad too heavy for them. I say adding a small split shot would have made it better. This rod paired with some 8# would make a great light action bass rod for throwing hellgrammite and small flukes on small jig heads. I’ll probably take it back and get the 6’6” just for that. 7 is a bit long for the creeks I fish. I’ll probably pick up the UL for my trout and panfish magnets. But you really can’t complain for less than $40 I’ll have a good light action bass pole and an ultralight panfish rod 👍
@@Triaz357 thank you! Curious how it would do with 2lb throwing trout magnets. I'm going to pick it up today and see. I just feel that their ultra lights are a little too whippy but would love to know how it casts the trout magnet.
@@22lbsboost honestly it might do pretty decent with a 1/32 jig head and trout magnet. I felt like it needed a little more weight than the 1/64 panfish magnets but that it was close. Let me know how it goes!
@@22lbsboost for what it’s worth when I took the 7’ back they didn’t have the 6.5 L so I ended up keeping the 7 for a light bass rod. All they had was the 5’ UL and the 5.5’L. I ended up getting the 5.5 and it throws the 1/64 panfish magnets like a dream. My old 5UL may have thrown them a tad farther but not much. It’s well worth the trade off for the extra length and backbone. I ended up impulse buying a Shimano Sienna 1000 for it too. I was using a Quantum Optix 1000. I like that Quantum but I like that Sienna way better.
I have the same one and I have smashed the tip with my backseat door lol I just put a new tip on it. I have had it for a couple years. My reel i have had for about 3-4 years and it is off a dock demon lol its my go to baby. catch more fish on that than anything else.

I might actually do that to mine. It's too whipy for me. I'm more into med light than ultralight now away.

How'd it go? Thinking about picking up the 7' light tomorrow to throw trout magnets
