I can only Imagine how sick it was seeing these sitting new at the dealer. If I had the chance to go back in time I would visit the US and go to a Chevy Dealer to get one as a 6.5
I’m one of the few that like the 6.5 diesel. I had a 1999 gmc dually with it and it never let me down. I pulled a big Case backhoe with it once and wish it had more power though lol. But for pulling a mid size farm tractor around it was fine. I bought a 2002 2500 with the Duramax new and realized how underpowered it was by comparison lol. Still have the Dmax. Wish I still had the dually too.
I have same truck big three upgrade and pull the starter out, take it apart it’s super simple and wire wheel clean it up shoot it with some dialectic grease and install it back up. There good starters
The next video is going to be about washing it from top to bottom and inside and out, then on to installing the 24 volt starter and going through everything on the truck giving it the best chance possible to start.
@@Coryphillips1999 Cleaning all the electrical Connections to the starter is also Good Idea and perhaps a little bit of diesel and ATF down the cylinders to free up the stuck piston rings but the only way to get the fluid back out by removing the glow plugs and then using starter until all the fluids are out.. I like 90s GMC let's make this one work😃
I don't know how much you paid for the Pickup but if I had it I would try to get it running because pickups are an excellent way to haul things and you would have a backup if your other one goes down so you would always have a pickup whenever you needed a pickup.
I got a 99 mid bus and I'm just knowing figuring out that the parts for the 6.5l are basically obsolete I'm getting my turbo plenum seals and upper intake seals finished and selling mine lol I've owned several of the trucks but my first 6.5L and I'm running lol
Drives me nuts (not really I understand lol) when old dudes can’t remember years for shit lol like how long ago did you buy this? Ohhh 10 years ago. But wait it’s been sitting since 06? Yeap. Lololol whatever it’s been sitting lolol
I'm going out on a limb in saying this, but it sounds almost like the engine has absolutely no compression to it whatsoever. The starter is missing its rhythm even with the new battery. Sure, it had a higher pitch to it. But the turning ratio sounded the same. I could be wrong though. For all we know, maybe the starter just has a burnt pinion gear on it or the bendix no longer functions the way it should.
@@Coryphillips1999 oh my bad sorry bout that your good sorry I misunderstood/jumped to conclusion I have a 99 I'm trying to redo now so hopefully I see some more content for inspiration lol
I don't know man these things barley ran right when new. I knew someone with one had about 250 k miles but on it's 3rd motor. They will pull things but they move the same speed empty or with a load. The 6.5 had nothing on the Cummins or power strokes of the time.
I'm pretty sure if you replace the battery with a new one it will start just fine. Clearly this guy does not know what he's doing. Because he keeps doing the same thing over and over. If the battery worse and it won't start the motor even with jump boxes on more than likely that battery is complete shit my advice is to change the battery changed oil put new oil and put a new battery in And check the starter teeth. If the starter teeth are fine then you're fine then it should work
It didn't even fully start that's technically not even turning over. That's basically only spinning the motor for it really to turn over you would have to have the motor running and it starting. That's not even running. Also my guy you don't have battery also, you got a let the glow plugs warm up first. So basically, the GMC is a total loss cost. It is dirty disgusting and the motor looks like shit.
Gay 6.5 turbo diesel. Man GMC really needs to get with the program. Even Ford had better turbo diesel's back then they had the 7.3. Bigger and better than GMC still Ford is still doing better than GMC.
I bought a 2000 k3500 crew cab with the 6.5 , been slowly getting her going! Love the truck man takes me back to a better time
That's awesome to hear and thanks man!
What did it take to fire it up?
While you're fixing a car, your Biden is supporting terrorists from Ukraine

That’s one of the best trucks ever dude sad to see someone left it to rot like that
Love these trucks
Give it some Cosby juice and feed her the onions!
Badass man! That nest was freakin nuts!
Make it a donor truck and swap in a gas drivetrain
Take off the belt and see if it spins easier...the vacuum pumps on these are known to lock up on units that set too long.
absolutely love my 6.5. been a damn good truck
I've got a soft spot for the gmt400 trucks. I had a 6.5 for awhile and it was a pretty good truck.
those trucks are damn near bullet proof
Greetings: 14 bolt 'Exploding locker'.
Lol, headliner looks good
Since you’re dang near local, I would like to see the old girl run and maybe on the road. But some of that wiring looks gnarly.
Where do you live?

Not saying it is easy or cheap but you can get a 6.5 in the power range of around 300 h.p which is about the same as the first gen of duramax.
Please keep going.
Hope, Arkansas?? That's right down the road from me, that's awesome😂
Get it running
I have same truck big three upgrade and pull the starter out, take it apart it’s super simple and wire wheel clean it up shoot it with some dialectic grease and install it back up. There good starters
Awesome! I will definitely do that.
this is one of those power-washing this would be very satisfying tree stuff is flying.. funny as bear on vodka to see those gauges go absolutely nuts

Mine sat for 12 years in a farmers field runs like a top drive it everyday
I’d love to see it run.
Drop the tank and clean it new fuel filter and you should be good to fire up also make sure the starter bracket is on
I don't know how much you paid for the Pickup but if I had it I would try to get it running because pickups are an excellent way to haul things and you would have a backup if your other one goes down so you would always have a pickup whenever you needed a pickup.
If the title says 98 that’s probably not to that truck because that truck has the older interior looks like it’s a 94
I meant it was issued in 98 the title does actually match and say 94

I used to own a 6 lug extended cab 2500. 5 speed 4x4 with the 5.7, wish I never sold that truck to be honest.
Yeah I'd like to see if you get it to at least run. It'll be motivation for my current project which does run, a 1988 Ford F250 7.3 IDI diesel.
Wouldn't that be a 6.9?
I think that was a half year if I remember correctly
Green wires are for cold start advance and fuel shutoff, also possibly the gauges
Should I fix them before trying to start it?
@@Coryphillips1999 yes! Could be why the voltage is low and the starter drags. Those wires looked like a bigger gauge wire.
I got truck same way is that one
Do you fixed??
Or do you found the issue??
Yes
Yeah it will start
Yes fix it make it run n drive clean it up maybe a full paint job or a rattle can paint job
I like the oil pressure gauge doing a hootinanny dance,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
How do people just abandon their vehicles like that lol
Did you say hope Arkansas 😂 that’s not far from me
Not a 98. That dash was used until 94/5. Love the obs trucks. Good luck
You should lubricant cylinder before turn the engine park so long Spray some WD-40 or any lubrication to sew the top of cylinders
Check out the new video on the truck, we did that and apply 24 Volts to the starter.
yes
this was painful lol….one battery hooked up…”let me spray some wd-40 on the starter” 🤦🏻
I grew up on these trucks. My dad owned a 95 Chevy 2500 with the 6.5 Detroit. We used it haul trash and brush from houses we fixed up.
she will kick and start
I would like to see it run and also have it cleaned power washed
How’s the headliner still in good condition then the seat looks that bad
That's what I'm saying 😂
It would be a good truck to work o if you have spare time
Drives me nuts (not really I understand lol) when old dudes can’t remember years for shit lol like how long ago did you buy this? Ohhh 10 years ago. But wait it’s been sitting since 06? Yeap. Lololol whatever it’s been sitting lolol
A 6.5 Diesel is hard to come by these days honestly.
any diesel from the 90s honestly
I own 3 all plow trucks love them

I was thinking the same thing.
With it sitting so long and getting rusted check all the grounds you could get a voltage drop through that
Good idea!
That RAM not deleted? Getting kind of low mpg for what it is
Not deleted and I agree
That truck is not a 1998...that truck is around a 1988 to 1995..from the looks of the dash board...and mirrors....wrong title
Garage Now
Love the truck and the content but holy crap I think I'm sick from watching that video. Use a tripod or something, yikes.
I appreciate it and I completely agree which is why shorty after I upgraded to a GoPro and a tripod 😂
Voltage low cause u got to wait till the GP's are done cycling
snaped crank,, shes fikd....
I feel dumb for watching this vid.
Good

So how much did you pay for this jem?
Btw theyre HARD starts
21 to 1 ratio
Oh god the temperature is at 4000 rpm
that truck is not a 1998 . that's the wrong title
That's not a 98 title, it was issued in 98
GMC And Max And Monty And Bulgy
Mine sat for 10 years and fired up the 3rd try
If title says 98 I'd check vin because 94 95 last of that interior that's I believe 92-94 interior
No 98 as in when the gentleman bought it, sorry I didn't specify lol

I see all the good comments about the 6.5s but my experience wasn’t such as good. I would never own one again worst diesel of all time.
