The best and the brightest in the music industry turned out Sunday for the 54th annual Grammy Awards.
As expected, nearly everyone had something to say about Whitney Houston, who died unexpectedly on Saturday at the age of 48 before she was to perform at a pre-Grammy party.
"To have everyone together really to commiserate and celebrate together I think is a good idea," said Bonnie Raitt.
"She was a fresh-faced kid who could sing better than anybody," recalled Cyndi Lauper. "And she had a joy when she sang. And she was beautiful. She was tall and beautiful and had a great, great, great voice and for some reason she had some demons that she couldn't beat."
DJs David Guetta and Skrillex did find the time to talk about something else -- their nominations for best dance/electronica album -- an award Skrillex won.
"I wrote a bunch of names down but didn't prepare any speeches and it's crazy," said Skrillex. I have to be here, I have to be there. It's really hard to take in when things are happening, but it's amazing, it's an honor, for real."
"I'm very happy because, you know, it's like finally, the industry kind of acknowledged what we are and the scene and all of this," said Guetta. "So the idea tonight is we're having kind of a rave on the side of the Grammy building."
Steve Van Zandt, a member of Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band, which opened the show, talked about what it will be like this year on the road without their late saxophonist Clarence Clemons.
"It's going to be an emotional year without him and obviously it's been, it's going to be different," he said. "It's been different without Danny. And we decided he's really not replaceable, obviously, so we're going to have a five-piece horn section and do things a little bit differently, and you know, make the transition that way and carry on as a tribute to Clarence and Danny and their work will be there forever of course."

Remember this is the actual Grammy’s, not the pre party that happened the night before at the hotel where she was still in the room. That party should have been cancelled without hesitation. Who cares if folk were ready and already en route. Stop. Turn the car around and go home. At least some expected attendees did what was appropriate.

I think people are confusing this red carpet, which was the actual Grammy’s, with the Clive Davis pre party that was held the night prior, at the hotel where Whitney still lay in her room. This was not the same event. Absolutely the party should have been cancelled. Disgrace on those who made the decision to proceed given the circumstances. They’re all rich enough to lose some money in order to show so damn respect.

They and Clive knew her, I never met her although she was my favorite singer and to me thee greatest voice.
