Blank on Blank, read this. You are documenting American pop culture so well. It's like an album of pop culture nuggets. You are doing something good, thank you. These are fucking great.
"When I was younger all I cared about was being cool. I was very, very into cool. You know, if you worry about being cool all the time you're going to cut yourself off from a whole new level of experience." ~ Patti Smith 4:15

Love love love this!! Thank you for uploading this and keeping it on your channel even after all these years. What an incredible work of art. Patti transcends beyond generations and this is poof of that.
I'd always wanted to get into Patti Smith, but never really knew where to start, or even really had the courage to just... dive in. But then I watched this video, gave her cover of "My Generation" a spin, and I was hooked. And of course, I loved this interview. Going by her music and her words here, Smith has a beautiful soul and a brilliant mind. So thanks for documenting this, and for giving me that little push to discover Smith's music for myself. Keep doin' the good work that you're doin'.
One of your best with Kurt Cobain’s, Stephen King’s, David Bowie’s, Alfred Hitchcock, Marlene Dietritch, Leonard Cohen, Dolly Patron and Charles Bukowski (from a technique point of view, I like traveled somewhere with those). These are art, more than art cause you’re transferring art already made (I consider an interview art) to illustrate it, make it bigger, as in making it heard more. I can’t put into words what I feel about this one, it’s my favorite with Kurt’s, Stephen King’s, Bukowski’s, B.B King’s and Louis Amstrong’s. You guys come up with these images, like books as electric poles, Kurt Cobain in a snowball watching his family melt, Marlene Dietrich picking a plastic “Barbie” part from a machine, Dolly Patron washing in a river bathtub, a unicorn with her corn turning into a pencil, fingers turning into arms, anyway I can’t name them all but I’m completely drawn. Thank you thank you thank you !
I love Patti Smith. She's an awesome singer, and writer. Some of her songs probably should've been censored when they were first released. Thank goodness they weren't.
I don't relate to most of what she said, but we sure are on the same page with censorship. Boy oh boy does it piss me off when they modify music, movies, TV or any other art form to appease a bunch of pearl clutchers, even if its in a small way, every bleep is stepping on the song.
@@widM_ just meant funny as in peculiar or notable. sort of interesting that she talks about Bob Dylan is a poet, especially since I think she only ever refers to him as "Dylan" which almost evokes Dylan Thomas than Bob Dylan.
That is very interesting seeing that she was drawn to Dylan Thomas from and early age and then coincidentally drawn to bob Dylan it shows how her interest connect in a way !
I'm glad she understands swears and their meanings in general, and not using them like how kids these days do. I hear kids on my bus (that's are in 7th grade, which makes it worse) just cussin' each other out, and to me, they sounded like children...which they were, but in a worse way. Kids can be smart without having to cuss out another kid, and they should learn from Patti to make them understand a bit better...I was so tempted to yell at those kids to stop, but it wasn't worth it, but if Patti did, I'd be chill with it, cuz she has an understanding of it

+Mat D Thank you, Mat. It all comes down to remarkable audio which our contributors and partners thankfully recorded and held onto.

Patti Smith is one of thee most underrated poet/musicians ever.
She's good but, Actually, I think she's Over-rated. ;)
literally who underrates her?
I think we all know everyone who knows about her loves her but she's actually not as widely known as some other artists of her time
@@layla8830 I guess we just roll in different circles then : )

My favourite Blank on Blank so far, with the exception of the Tom Waits interview.

i love that she does not use her words for shock value she's just being herself. love it.
What the fuck is shock value though?
Tell that to "Rock 'N Roll [N-Word]". I still like Patti Smith but that was all for shock value and fucking idiotic.

first occasion I've heard/read P. Smith speaking/writing so coherently.
I love Patti Smith. She's an awesome singer, and writer. Some of her songs probably should've been censored when they were first released. Thank goodness they weren't.
Patti the legend😎
What songs is playing at the end?

Like Shakespeare every line of Patti's poetry
funny that Bob Dylan named himself after the poet Dylan Thomas.
why is that funny?

Pretentious, self-promoting mediocre talent. Just my opinion, of course.
Barry Miller a pretty shitty one at that
This video only encourages people to curse. What is up with this glorification of cursing?
+Al Pal It's not glorification. It's presenting a moment in cultural history.
