The Physics. Yep. Jokes aside, I was very impressed and frankly surprised the actual gameplay is so good. It takes from my favorite games and improves on some of them. Nier automata had basically no boss fights and you fight the same robot in various configuration ad nauseum, so it's great to see cool enemy designs instead. EDIT: Where is the photo mode though? You can't make a game like this and NOT have a photo mode...
Quite the Stellar performance. I disagree that it needed some of the new visual goodies now in fashion like RT etc. By keeping it relatively "old tech" they managed to perfect what they had and make it perform quite well. If they went with UE5 stuff and RT lighting and all that it would have been another immortals of Avion that gets upscaled from extremely low resolutions and looks like Vaseline was all over the screen.

Shift Up and Neowiz/Round 8 (Lies of P) came out swinging and hit a homerun on their first attempt at making a quality game with smooth, consistent performance! The demo actually convinced me to buy the game and support Shift Up. I actually chose Performance mode as I was playing, it was evident it was a 60fps lock 🙂, but I guess I'll try balanced mode now.
@Kosta / Can WE suppose that ALL your games library have RT effects? It's your choice to limit yourself with a small games number, but it's a strange choice. It would be nice for this game, but RT tech is not a must have in every games. The small team focused on FPS first and rendering in mind. Maybe in the release for the graphic mode, or a patch. But WE cannot complain with the solid demo right now.
@mattmaas5790 Well, the sentence, by itself, has nothing to do with T or A. But, when you add perspective to the sentence, the relevance of T&A becomes apparent. That's what grown-ups refer to as "context." What you're questioning has nothing to do with "learning English" but with context. Now you know.
It's crazy how the locked 60fps mode in a freakin' action game is now considered a "backup" for "some players". Thank god SHIFT UP doesn't think like this.
No kidding. I don't care how good a game is, I won't play 30 fps anymore. I'm glad people still enjoy 30 fps, but for me it's a major headache waiting to happen. This is especially true if the game is action focused. And for $70 per game, that 60 fps better be locked with solid frame pacing.
6:58 the green ring on her back has more resolve in Performance mode than Balanced mode. I've seen similar cases where Performance mode has more resolve than Balanced in many other areas, even when camera is still.
This is turning out to be a really well-produced game. And pretty fun too, going from the demo! I think this will be looked back upon as a classic in the PS5 generation.
I love that they included a native 1440p option with no reconstruction, I can't stand the artifacting in these methods, especially in hair and particle effects, IMO the performance mode looks best.
Good overview... and whoever was playing took their time to learn the game. I appreciated the decent combat performance with good parries and dodges throughout!
Solid tech, intriguing design, tight gameplay and no western pandering. If Shift Up manages to nail the narrative just as well, this will be a massive hit and a big BIG finger to western developers on how to make games for gamers instead of „journalists“.
I was honestly blown away by the technical performance and presentation of Stellar Blade when I played through the demo a couple of times. I expected the worst when I saw how little experience the developer had, but if this opening segment is representative of the rest of the game they have really hit it out of the park. I played once on a 1440p 240hz Gsync monitor, and once on a non-VRR capable 60hz 4K TV. I actually preferred how the performance mode looked and felt on my monitor, but I definitely saw big advantages to the balanced mode on the 4k TV. I was surprised that I could barely notice the frame drops on the balanced mode most of the time, despite not having VRR on. Games like Elden Ring which typically run between similar framerates on PS5 feel significantly worse without VRR.

I'd recommend you play Lies of P, Sekiro, Elden Ring, Bloodborne, or Nioh. This game had the backing of Sony, it's not like it's a tiny team with zero budget.
@@sabakunovedo Graphics' quality is on a level of PS4 games. In fact, some of said games actually look better than Stellar Blade (FF7R, DMC5, Horizon games, TLoU2). And because of that, PS5 is able to hold it all together with decent performance. (EDIT: and also, just like the person above me said, they obviously did get some of Sony's help)
Artistic choices are very generic, at least when it comes to the environment; just a post apo destroyed city, not much else to see here.
Game mechanics? It adds nothing new to the genre, or did I miss something? The freshest idea it's had that I've noticed was moving a footbridge while swimming, and I'm pretty sure even that is not new.
I don't mind the character designs, but I also see nothing new here besides simple, tight, shiny suits inspired by works like Gantz -- being worn by typical moe characters designed by eastern asian artists.
Level design, as in: platforming - is decent. I think they did a bit more than they would do in most other eastern slashers, and, especially, jRPGs.

The second best way. The best way would be to have a _free_ demo. I really don't get what's behind this new trend to make people pay for what's essential an ad.
I've liked the look of this game since the announcement and was straight on the demo, and I have to say I'm shocked at just how good this game is.
crazy right, their first game, and it's much better than from studios, that have been in the game for 20 years.
surprised to see DF cover this game, didn't Alex criticize this game trailer and called it "design from bygone era" ???
Alex: 0/10, design of a bygone area, not for modern audiences (FYI he's from Germany, a country religiously following the wokeness agenda to the point of self destruction.)

Such a stellar performance, definitely a day one purchase.
*Stellar. Just like the title.
Excellent demo
Impressive selection of modes and a functioning 60fps mode out of the box. Hats off to the team!
It is still blurry as hell
10:55 Feel like they should have an option to disable the frame-cap for people with 120hz VRR displays. Especially with the performance mode being what it is.
This game will sell really well I bet

Day 1. The demo was a blast, ran very well, and the characters are easy on the eyes. Perfect combination. Was going to wait for PC but the Ps5 balanced mode looks good and is basically 60fps with VRR TVs. Getting mad Nier vibes which I am all for. Would have liked to see an uncapped VRR mode for us with those TVs, especially the performance mode.

Shift Up and Neowiz/Round 8 (Lies of P) came out swinging and hit a homerun on their first attempt at making a quality game with smooth, consistent performance! It's wild how some game devs can make these beautiful games run at 60FPS but some devs simply can't figure it out. I love Fromsoftware but just about all their games have terrible frame pacing and usually suffer with poor performance when they first release. I don't know anything about making games but it's just interesting to me that some devs really know how to make a well polished game and some still struggle after years of knowledge and experience...

The demo actually convinced me to buy the game and support Shift Up. I actually chose Performance mode as I was playing, it was evident it was a 60fps lock 🙂, but I guess I'll try balanced mode now.

Bingo. RT is a waste on consoles. All it does is kill resolutions and framerates.

It would be nice for this game, but RT tech is not a must have in every games. The small team focused on FPS first and rendering in mind.
Maybe in the release for the graphic mode, or a patch. But WE cannot complain with the solid demo right now.

He's too busy playing Forspoken
A completely optimised game in 2024? Color me shocked. Let’s hope that stays true when it launches proper.
