Part 2 of the Mini-Series is here discussing Luring, Overluring and Optimization! Hope it helps and you enjoy it ^^ All Likes & Shares are very much appreciated!
An advanced tip that could be applied would be to LET snatchers capture eggs from shoreline enemies and fish sticks, depending on spawn location. Something like: Splat a stinger, take a souvenir egg to go, let the snatcher take the rest back, keep an eye on the sky while you work nearby, and wait for your amazon delivery drone. Staying on a fishstick to throw either takes one or two player's time to pick/throw eggs. Instead of wasting a few seconds climbing and throwing, just splat them and take an egg OR splat from below if you have a long range automatic weapon (like Jet squelcher/92gal/any splatling) and just check back in 10 or so seconds for a snatcher, splat them and they drop the eggs to the ground rather than the tower.
Something worth mentioning is that Snatchers turn their backs to the direction they spawned from when picking up eggs. Even if you didn't pay attention to where they came from you can use that to judge whether Snatcher optimization is something you can take advantage of during any given wave.
as a Splatoon 2 veteran I already have this drilled into my brain but it’s always nice that you explain this to other people so that I don’t lose my mind as often when teammates are bad
When evaluating whether to lure Scrappers, Steelheads and especially Steel Eels; take special note that these can clog up chokepoints on the map really bad, this is especially important at low tide, where most of the maps have thin paths to reach the edge of the shore, and an otherwise unthreatening scrapper getting stuttered on the bridge or pathway can prevent you from getting to the stinger/flyfish/big shot trifecta making the basket area unlivable.
Everyone who plays salmon Run should watch this. It should be part of the tutorial. This one thing is what makes or breaks freelance rotations. It IS depressing watch a fog round tick down with the quota unmet and 12 Goldie eggs on the shore
One thing to note is that you don't have to lure the boss always right to the basket. Sometime it is safer to lure bosses to a remote location above the basket but within throwing range. It takes a little longer to get the eggs in but doesn't have the risk of bring all the mooks and bosses to one central location causing the team to get overwhelmed. I do this most of the time on fortress because the basket area is very high risk on that map.
Ok this has opened my eyes a lot. I did luring to an extent with a few bosses but it's more powerful than I realised and I often forget it once a wave gets chaotic and teammates are running in etc. Never knew snatchers took the same paths either so I'm definitely going to try apply that now as well
Honestly, same. I try to lure sometimes, but tend to end up having to focus on surviving. Especially since I’m a solo player, and can’t always coordinate with my team.
@@corvidaegudmund1186 Yeah me too, at most will play with one other person. Sometimes it just falls apart immediately though like when it's low tide and all 3 teammates charge to the end of the map lolol
commenting so that it boosts the algorithm and more ppl see this. too many times i've had freelancers in low VP rush down scrappers at the shore in the beginning of a map or kill a goldie 100 ft from basket. like you mentioned, just because we have egg throws doesn't mean it should *always* be used edit: thanks for all the content haz, been watching since splat 3 came out but just haven't commented. super valuable sr information you give us
Been enjoying your videos for a while. I laugh at this being "the basics" and I learnt something new today (snatchers return to their spawn)even though I've played a good amount of Salmon Run (got to EVP mostly freelancing). It's good because it also reassures me on something I've mentioned to others and that it is very valuable watching what the enemies do if you're not sure how best to tackle them. I guess Snatchers being so inoffensive I never thought about that important detail.
now the snatcher spawn I did not know that at all. I'm glad most of my salmon run knowledge came from just playing the game back in splatoon 2 to make things better for me during salmon run, but snatchers spawns I did not know, and overlurning I try not to do, but man is it rough when I'm kinda picking off bosses and trying my best with weapons I'm not that great with while my teammates are doing something or killing things at the shore that are not stingers cause man these past two months I've been double stingered often, so much so I've started to drop everything I'm doing to get rid of stingers immediately cause its gonna be me that gets shot lmao. Great video, definitely subbing.
This is the most helpful and informative video for salmon run I’ve seen yet. This concept of luring is so underutilized in freelance it’s ridiculous. Hopefully everyone ever can see this and least get an education about this.
Also, an easy way to collect eggs and get away from enemies is sub strafing! It's usually used in pvp to make quick turns but it works amazing in salmon run, the only thing you have to do is hold R while you're in the ink and when you come back up and switch directions you can turn way easier, you can also hold R right before you pop out of the ink, whichever one is easier :)
ive seen more people spam “this way” while standing by the basket idk if im just noticing now because ive watched your video. thank you for making these vids they have really helped a lot of people.
I feel like I’m the only person who doesn’t kill bosses as soon as they spawn lol. I got really excited one time cuz I had a teammate who was luring a scrapper with me, and we proceeded to win that game. Please lure bosses
I noticed awhile ago while watching an overfishing video that the Snatchers were going in the same direction and its a lot more noticeable. And I started noticing it in my matches too, its kinda trippy once you notice it lol.
Just playing consciously makes such a difference tbh! Got to EVP 500 for the first time today (before the rotation reset) with over 130 eggs in some cases :D Before I was always stuck around 200 EVP, but really focusing on awareness (+ having a good weapon rotation I guess) helps a ton
For flipper-floppers if you accidentally trigger one far from the basket I recommend inking it's zone and then just running away, once it's crashed once it loses the armor and then it's trivial to kill in the air later.
another few tips! if you want to learn more about luring, or anything else salmon run, i highly recommend watching overfishing comps on yt/twitch. overfishing is when people prioritize getting as many golden eggs as possible in one game; they usually reach aroun 150-200. seeing how they work is so essential to learning more about salmon run! for the love of god, *pleaseeeeee* don't splat scrappers on those thin routes on low tide, because it's impossible to get arounf to hit their weak spot without getting pushed into the water. just... wait for a few seconds and THEN splat them T_T
I could be wrong but I also heard that for a given wave, snatchers will always spawn from a single point outside the map. It should just be a matter of remembering which direction that is to know if it's safe to leave eggs for them to carry over to the basket or if they're going to be lost forever if you leave them.
People who go out on a murder spree and splat scrappers and steel eels aaaaaall the way on the shore the second they spawn (right as the wave starts!) all while I'm spamming This Way by the basket make me want to tear my hair out. And this is in VP! Why is the basic concept of luring so foreign to freelance randoms?
A communication option or tutorial blurb for luring feels like it's needed but it just doesn't exist. I don't even entirely blame the freelance players for not luring. it's such an important skill that Nintendo needlessly hides
6:39 goldies cant drop 3 eggs, they used to beable to in early splatoon 2 but then there was an update that gave them the random roll egg drop that they have now
They really need to fix the egg throw mechanic and the radius in which you deposit eggs. The number of times I've thrown an egg halfway across the stage despite being close enough to the basket to practically touch it is infuriating.
Definitely gonna try my hand at luring but it’s going to take time to get good at it that’s for sure (nothing new there let’s be real. That’s how life be). This is banking an awful lot on ransoms even knowing these things let alone deciding if the situation is bad enough to stop luring.
IMO, instead of Mr. Grizz saying “You can kill maws with bombs” when getting wiped out, how about he says “Most bosses will move towards a player. If that players stays near the basked and then the boss is defeated, the eggs will be easier to collect” Or “If you notice a Egg Collectpr Salmonid fly towards the basket with a lot of eggs, splat them when they are close to the basket. The eggs will be easy to deliver.”
Hazmy, you didn't address the Big Shot cannon here. You said not to kill Scrappers at the shore, but what if it's by the Big Shot cannon? One could focus by the basket and the others kill the bosses near the cannon.
Is there a magic button to hit so that your team doesn’t “run for the shore” every wave instead of “luring” the bosses to the basket? I’m really getting tired of these low scores in Big Run because dozens of eggs are so far from the basket there’s no way to collect them.
Hey Haz! I’ve always tried luring but my team won’t listen, so I’ve just given up. Do you have any tips for that? I mostly play freelance since I don’t have people to play with. If you have some tips, it would be very much appreciated! Thanks!
Anyone want to make a team. I’ve over 200+ on eggsecutive vp and I can’t get a single teammate to stop rushing the shore now later how much I stay back and spam they literally don’t care and it’s all 3 every time. Well literally have zero eggs over halfway through the match because the keep getting swarmed
It's not hard to lure, you can split your teammates, 2 teammates handle flyfish, stingers and big shots, 2 others near the basket to lure other bosses. You can spam "This Way" in the start for them to lure, but when it fails, just try to help your teammates to kill bosses and pass the eggs. I've seen many example of people not luring, and then when it reaches 15 second mark, they just realized they were too late to collect the eggs. Those who lure, meet the egg quota before the 30 sec mark, and you can splat bosses to minimize the hazard.
Definitely gonna try my hand at luring but it’s going to take time to get good at it that’s for sure (nothing new there let’s be real. That’s how life be). This is banking an awful lot on ransoms even knowing these things let alone deciding if the situation is bad enough to stop luring.

Cannot stress enough how important it is to learn these as it’s vital to getting better at salmon run

In my experience in freelance for Fog events, the only Goldies that get successfully lured to the basket are the ones who only drop one egg. 😢

A good tip. My problem is that it seems like whenever I get a chance to lure, that’s when the flyfish or stinger comes in.

I would argue that luring steel eels can be an issue, as on some maps like shipyard, they can become a real issue as just 2 can wall an entire front
Yeah, I would say steel eels are a sort of risky lure. They're easy to lure, but if you don't splat it when it's there, you have caused a problem.
