  • Relaxing on his tour bus before a gig, John Hiatt reaches for just one guitar: a 1947 Gibson LG-2. He bought the instrument from Nashville’s Gruhn Guitars around 1986 for around $800 and it has since remained a constant picking and songwriting companion. “I picked it up and immediately it had that thing where it resonates with you and you get all connected up with it, chords just feel right,” the singer-songwriter says. “I carry it with me on the road. I love it. I’d like to play it onstage but it’s just a little too tender and fragile.”
In this video, Hiatt tells us about his cherished Gibson and plays "Long Time Coming," a tune off of his 2014 album, 'Terms of My Surrender.'

He has been and is an inspiration to me to play acoustic guitar. We saw him in Memphis, and was well worth the price of admission. I play/practice his songs almost nightly. He's one of those very talented artists who it seems has not gotten the recognition that he so rightfully deserves.

Maybe the best songwriter of the last 40 yrs. Seen him many times, never disappoints,no matter who he plays with. It’s criminal he’s never mentioned at R&R HOF. Criminal!

John Hiatt and Lucinda Williams are my go to music. They touch my soul. As a songwriter I pray for just a little of the magic they have.

I saw him life once (2 years ago).
He killed it on the stage. That can sing and perform like a boss

Back in 2005 I was on Delbert McClinton’s blues cruise # 11. John Hiatt was on it. I had watched him do a show stood right in front of the stage. The next morning I got up before the sun did went out and got a cup of coffee. I
standing right behind me John Hiatt. I told him a great show it was an asked him what were the chords to song he did. He said all man it’s too early it’s only three chords. Then he introduced me to his wife very beautiful lady I might add. Then we went on our ways. Later on the cruise I got to meet him again to get a picture with him at a meet and greet. Perhaps one of those underestimated songwriters of our time.

Had the pleasure of seeing John with Lyle Lovett last night. One of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen. John knocked out THEE best version of Have a Little Faith In Me.....reaching high and nailing those falsetto notes.....shivers down my spine and tears in my eyes. Unbelievable.

Been a longtime fan of John Hiatt so much great music...
I finally saw John last night 3-12-16 in Napa, a great intimate venue and an acoustic show... He played this beautiful guitar... Love this man and his music! Thank you John for a great performance... check that off bucket list!

I've been blessed to see him 6 or 7 times. I only hope next time he comes to Omaha so I won't have to drive far and find a motel and all that. There are venues in Omaha he'd really enjoy! Loved seeing him in Lawrence KS last October with Lyle Lovett! Awesome concert!

Maybe they didn't appreciate the tune being interrupted by the interview segments. I find it annoying. Just a thought. It's up to 9 now btw.

I really think he’d have been better off learning to shred on an electric guitar rather than focusing on playing gorgeous, soul-touching songs like this on a lovely old acoustic.
Mind you, I’m quite, quite mad.
