I have oily lids and I tried many, I can say my fav is Bobbie Brown gel liner is great but the best for pencil is Jordana 12HR liquid pencil liner. It is very creamy, gel like. It will not go anywhere. Cheap too. It gets dull quickly cause it is so creamy, so I collect the gel after I sharpen it and then put them in a small pot and use like gel liner. Fantastic.

Clinique quickliner has been my go-to for a long time on my over-50 eyelids. Lasts all day for me, though I don't do waterlining due to contacts and sensitive eyes. I am always on the lookout for cheaper products that work, so your reviewing mixed products is very helpful, thanks!

For me with my older skin, (I'm 59) Urban Decay works wonderfully! Tightline, waterline, and above the lashes, it goes on easy, and stays on until I take it off. Urban Decay has also come out with 5 24/7 Velvet pencils that have no glitter and have a nice velvety soft look that I just love! I use either the Urban Decay eye primer or Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I also use the Smashbox under eye primer.

I have the Revlon color stay eyeliner and had put it off to the side to get a new one at the store (I thought mine was old and that's why it wasn't super easy!). Mind you I had lost it in a purse for awhile and could not recall how smooth it was. I do like the longevity but probably won't purchase again because it's not creamy enough for my inpatient self to work with.
    Thanks for the video.

I am 44 and have tried dozens of liners and hands down tarte smoldereyes are the creamiest and the wear is INCREDIBLE. I promise you they are the best. The colors are great and they have skinny pencils and chubby ones which are great for all over the lid.

For low-end pencils, you can't beat Rimmel's Scandal Eyes. For high end, I still love UD w/o glitter, Tarte Smolder Eyes, and recently have enjoyed Clinique's Quick Liner in Intense Chocolate. I only use liner under my lash line, my old eyes look even smaller with liner above the lash :) Often, I just bring down the shadow I'm using that day as liner too. Thanks for the reviews!

I also like Urban Decay, but it makes my eyes sore and red so I can't use it. I was only using it under my lash on the bottom. That is the only makeup that has done that to me.

I've tried about every high end and drugstore brand eye liner pencils, and the only one that won't smudge or fade is from Bobbi Brown. I have oily skin, and I think that's the main issue, but her brand applied smoothly and lasted several hours. I have the "Noir" and will splurge again on a blue shade. Thank you for all of your reviews, Angie. They've helped me make good choices in makeup.

Thanks for all this great information, Angie. I have a heck of a time getting anything to stay put in my waterline! For eyeliner in general, the chunky Sephora waterproof 12-hour liner is one of my faves. I have it in Dark Taupe Shimmer and Dark Brown Matte. It stays put great above the lash line but I don't use it for tightline/waterline.

I have to say that none of them really worked. Some of your favorites faded too. The one I use and the one you didn't try was the Cover Girl Perfect Blend eyeliner. It is my holy grail of eyeliners. I have tried others, even Urban Decay 24/7, but I always go back to my old school eyeliner. It has been around forever. It replaced the eyeliner I used from Max Factor. Avon also makes a good pencil eyeliner. That is my backup. I noticed you didn't test on blend ability, when you did your eyeliners. Clarins, and Lancome make good eyeliners too.

I favor pencils most of the time but just tried the It Cosmetics new gel liner and it is great, waterproof and didn't skip as I applied. This will be my new go-to liner for more of a defined line. I found it easy enough to apply that I think I will use this instead of my Mac pencil liner.

My daughter has oily skin, lives in a humid climate, and it outside all day walking to classes. The only pencil that has worked for her has been IT cosmetics!! Urban Decay 24/7 is a complete fail!!! I am not sure if she has tried MUFE, but will check it out this weekend. Thank you for all your hard work, this type of video takes a huge effort on your part!!

So Sephora & MUFE it is. Adding them to the list. I just did this myself and therefore have more eyeliners than I've ever had in my life. I do like the colors of Urban Decay as I find some of them to be majorly flattering & they do stay on my lid well. Laura Gellar's were disappointing & the colors were unoriginal. Smashbox I was also thrilled with at first, but then I found mine dried out & became difficult to work with.

MUFE Aqua Eyes is my go-to for my water line. It's one of the few that lasts and doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes. My other favorites are NARS Larger Than Life pencil and Jordana 12 Hr Made To Last. Both of those have great lasting power but do slightly irritate me when on the water line. Great comparison video!

Hi Angie thanks for the video. I have mature (aka wrinkly) eyes and have tried just about every high end and drug store eyeliner pencil. The Covergirl Liquiline Blast in brown is not sparkly and I have been using it for several years and it goes on smooth and doesn't smear on me. If you put on a touch of translucent powder over your concealor it makes the liner stay and not smear.Try it.

Angie I wanted to tell you the best eyeliner pencil I have found lately is the Beautique eyeliner pencil..It stayed all day on upper eyelid and the one at the waterline on the bottom was also pretty darned good.I purchased them at Sally's Beauty Supply and happen to catch them on a buy one get one free sale this week. Both were only around $3.00..I am much older than u and my eyelids absolutely drive me batty .Crepy and droopy. Still have not found a truly waterproof mascara and am desperate.. as with swimming all summer and also allergy watery eyes. Thanks for all you do.

Thank you so much, Angie for telling me about this review. I work 12hour nights and when I finally get a break, I check my eyes and I always have that black gunk in the corners. By the end of my night I have no liner and I don't bother to reapply, for I'm going home to bed...I'm suppose to look tired. Anyway, I have Sephora and scandal eyes. I will try makeup forever! I have 50 year old eyes too, but I gotta look good to at least start my work night, right?

The matte Urban Decay pencils are nice and long wearing. Rimmel Scandaleyes are amazing and so inexpensive! Another good drugstore one if you like a super dark brown is Revlon Grow Luscious Lash Liner (found on Amazon)... a very soft pencil gently applied and allowed to set a minute...it lasts all day on outer lash line (I don't use liner in water line....nothing lasts on me)

I am getting frustrated over eye pencils lately. I have tried both pencils and inglot ‘paste’ for my waterline but everything seems to smudge and leave me looking like a panda - all be it a panda w different coloration depending of the eye pencil color.

Angie, I absolutely agree with you about the Smashbox eyeliner. I consider that to be one of the worst ones I ever tried. Very disappointing. However, I was surprised at your negative review for the Cover Girl Liquiline Blast. I have been using this for years in the shade Brown Blaze. But I never use it on my waterline. I only use it for my upper eye lid. I also always make sure to use a dark brown powder over it to set it. I learned that trick from some makeup person years ago. It helps any eyeliner to last longer. As for your three top choices, I have never tried any of them. I may get the Sephora one because of the reasonable price and how well it worked on the waterline. I have been reluctant to spend a lot of money on eyeliners, because I have been able to find cheaper ones that work just as well. Thanks for another thorough, great review!

I know this video was years ago, I did notice that you have never tried Rimmel London's Kohl kajal waterproof eyeliner. It doesn't come in a gray, but don't ever get sparkling black. Black, brown and nude are amazing they do last quite well in the water line and they do have a great results for when you smudge it out then reapply that line again on the lid or lower lash line. I would highly suggest when putting in the tight line or water line setting with a powder for longer-lasting results. With the black just barely smudge it will look grayer than a strong black when it's first applied. Please try it I highly recommend it is the best consistent wear and use liner product that I have tried and I have gone through many.
I do highly recommend never letting it go down to the wood because it can get a little pokey if using a dull or cheap sharpener, and having only one problem that is very minimal will not make me stop using it.

Nice video! I agree with your comment about the mechanical pencil that claims to always be sharp, a flat end doesn't count as sharp to me! The physicians formula mechanical pencils (that come in trios) perform as well as the aqua eyes for me and they have a tiny sharpener in the end to get a finer point when you need it. I'm not a huge PF fan but those pencils are among my top favorites.

My holy grail eyeliner that lasts all day long (and I have watery eyes) is Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner. It costs about $22 but so far it seems to last quite a long time. I believe there are a good handful of shades, maybe 12 or so. I wear it in Sumatra (brown) and after 12+ hours, the rest of my makeup can be not looking good but this eyeliner is looking amazing!! My question is how can I get the rest of my makeup to get up to the standards of my eyeliner?? Then I'm set!
I was used to wearing Rimmel, but now I'll never use anything but this type of Smashbox liner. Big hint to avoid frustration: to sharpen the liner, there is a sharpener in the cap. You must "pump" the eye liner with the cap off to advance the crayon part of the product and then screw the cap back on. As you screw the cap on, you are sharpening the crayon. Take off the cap and you have a newly sharpened eyeliner --- where the shavings go, I still have yet to figure that out! (Maybe the same place my missing socks from the dryer went to. Ha!)
LOVE Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner! No running, smudging, flaking. It goes where you put it. Yes!!

Great review Angie. I have found this to be one of the hardest things to find that will last. I have heard good things about the Mac kohl but haven't tried it yet. I will have to pick up the MUF aqua eyes. I hope you have a great weekend. xo Carolyn

Great review! I haven't tried the aqua eyes! The price on that one seems reasonable as well. Thanks for the review!

Thank you probably saved me a lot of money testing out eyeliners. I love the Revlon eyeliner and I have used a long time. The Sephora I was highly allergic too- darn so wanted it to work. I will check out the Makeup Forever. Thank you for this video. Have a great weekend! Becki

Hi Angie, can you recommend how you get the Aqua Eyes OFF your eyes? I'm trying it out with not terribly great results. it does not glide on very smoothly (it skips), but it does have all day staying power. I use Neutrogena cleanser with makeup remover in it and separate Clinique remover and I still have some residual left on! Have you tried the Nars pencils yet? I guess finding one that is creamy, stays put, and can be removed when you want is quite a tall order :) I'm 45 and just started wearing makeup again. Your videos are so helpful. I really appreciate them!

I bought the Patti Dubroff eyeshadow palette at Costco which included a black eyeliner. It's horrible!!!! Doesn't matter where I put it within a couple of hours, it's slided down. Not a pretty look!! Angie - Thank you for making this video! I getting MUF tomorrow!!!

Great video. Have you tried Maybelline Master Drama eyeliner? That's one of my favorites because it stays in my water line.

Loved this video! Thank you for all the time it must have taken to do all that filming and then editing and rating. Recently, I cleared out a bunch of eyeliners to donate (after sharpening and sanitizing!) because of smudging issues. What I was left with was basically only the Revlon Colorstay pencils. And in cleaning them I knocked off the end cap only to have a 'duh' moment to discover that all this time it was a built-in sharpener. Reading the packaging better from now on!

I'm thinking you might have bought a bad urban decay eyeliner. I have been using them for years and never had those issues you had with yours. They always have good color pay off and are very easy to apply. The one you used seemed very dry which affected the color. Not all of them have glitter in them either. Most of them are shimmer or matte. My favorites are Demolition, Empire, Zero, psychedelic sister and my hands down all time favorite is Rockstar. ( have gone through at least 10 of that color!)

One more thought I meant to share; I was so excited when I finally broke down and bought some Eve Pearl Salmon concealer (albeit on a great sale). But my eyeliner always smudges when I use it! Don't like to powder too much under eyes either ....

Great Review, thanks for sharing this with us, taking the time to test all these out & showing us the staying power! I am still working with tight lining, for some reason sticking a object up in eye almost, makes me nervous, bottom line I have no problem, its tight lining that makes me nervous, I need creamy for sure. I have run into some pencils that even after sharpened, its jagged & has hurt my eye as I didn't notice the jagged edges, like piece of wood was scrapping my eye! I would be interested in a review on the IT cosmetic product specifically for tight lining, maybe you can do one for us please???? I will have to check the MUFE Aqua eyes & also want to try Jordana as I have heard great things about that one as well.

Huh. I've never had a problem with liner going anywhere on my lid. The only one I have that you have is the MUFE, mine's in blue though. I'm not a fan of black or gray, so I've used the MUFE for tightlining, and also a purple Chanel. That's if I tightline...lol..not big on it either :-) I had heard black or gray moves, so I stay away!

I'll say as far as eye liner's in pencils go, and I've tried many my best is still Avon's Ultra Luxury Eye Liner's regular $5.00 U.S., $5.99 CDN but I always get it on sale for $1.99 CDN, can't beat that. Their Supershock pencils are awesome too, a bit more $$$ but again very inexpensive when getting it on sale. Avon runs sales A LOT.

Do you ever use liquid or gel liners? I'm using Maybelline New York EyeStudio in Eggplant and it works really well. It goes on very smoothly with a brush and the upper lash line stays put. Bottom lash line not as well, but there is still color at the end of the day.

I haven't found a single eyeliner for my lashline (forget waterline) that does not run or smudge with my allergy-prone, sensitive eyes, including MUFE aqua, UD24/7, milani liquefy and various gel eyeliners incl Bobbi Brown, essence, sephora, etc. I wonder if you tried the Rimmel scandaleyes waterproof kohl kajal. I own it in 005 nude for brightening lower waterline since I've given up on black eyeliners. I don't watch to see how long it lasts but a lot of ppl seem to think the line is overall very good.
