  • Practicing mindfulness is more important than ever these days. One way to do so is with the help of an app. My company uses Calm for meditation and sleep, so I decided to review its UX as it relates to how I personally use it!

Love the content in this video. I love that your videos are mellow in general so that i can follow along and my brain doesn't have to filter out nonsense and noise, i can just let my mind take it in and also generate my own opinions.
you said a curious thing about stages of meditation e.g. beginner, intermediate and advanced and I wondered how you would classify such a thing? sure someone new to meditation is a beginner but what elevates a person beyond that stage? can meditation be quantified into stages? and if so what are they and isnt the ultimate stage to transcend meditation and not need to meditate at all?
I say this because I like many have had my own experiences with meditation but I came to realise that the act of meditating is just a prompt for you to put yourself into whatever mindset you are looking for. If you think about it, you go into these meditation apps with a goal in mind - like being able to relax, and when you reach the goal you will say "i am relaxed", so given that you know the goal and you will recognise when the goal is achieved the middle part which is the journey is merely a formality that does not need to take any time at all.
Why give yourself 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes to put yourself into a state that doesn't require anytime and can be achieved instantly. What are people going to do, rely on an app for the rest of their lives? Think about it how long do you intend to rely on a meditation app to solve your problems with not being able to relax before bed and if a person is frequently logging into this thing and clocking up regular streaks then doesn't it signify a larger problem in their lives that requires attention and action to solve?
isn't the goal to live more? or are we all intentionally signing up to become full time robots?
anyway thanks for your video :)

You're probably right that those who are truly "advanced" or rather long-time meditators probably won't have to rely on an app. Perhaps Calm is more for meditation dabblers vs. those who want to start building a habit. Towards the beginning, streaks can be a good way to act as a motivator or for some self-discipline to turn it into a habit.

Hey ! Good to see another neatly made app critique video from you.
Just a small suggestion from my side : if possible try to include "Touch Gesture".
It helps to know where you are clicking.
    Thanks

Thanks! Yeah I've been trying to figure out how to show that while screen recording. Appreciate the feedback!

When you say Touch Gesture do you mean like a dot or click indication to signify what they user is clicking on? If so I am not aware of a screen recording that does it but maybe it is or should be a feature within screen recording apps as adding it manually on something like after effects could become quite laborious. still its easy enough to follow as it is.

@@theauthority8465 Yeah, with iOS accessibility features you are able to see the "cursor" move around the screen and where you are tapping. However, you can't tap and scroll at the same time, so that kinda sucks :T
